all brand new chains jim, I think whats happened when we removed the cam locking tool we have slightly jigged one camshaft maybe a 10 degree turn when removing the locking tool, ive just looked and put it back into place with a 15mm socket and it looks spot on timing wise and chain is not slack. its the cam sensor sprocket ive turned clockwise slightly. -

hi guys, sorry for the questions, this is me being paranoid now, we have just put the 263 cams in the corrado vr6 engine, but this chain seems loose all the way round, when it had the standard cams and the 27mm hydraulic tensioner removed the chains were not this loose? is this ok? :thumbleft: this one with my finger was quite tight with the 27mm tensioner off, now with the 263 cams changed its loose.

Brand new corrado vr6 timing chain guide worn already?? PICTURES INSIDE!
paceo replied to paceo's topic in Engine Bay
i bought the corrado engine from here dude, so this is how it came! it had new chains and guides etc.......... but i was inspecting it prior to fitting in a few weeks, i have ordered a new guide from vw today, so hopefully it will be 1-piece? as far as the 27mm bolt tensioner is concerned, i think the one with the nipple is for the double top chain and the one with no nipple is for a single top chain? edited - as confirmed in the american site on the link above, i do need the 27mm tensioner with the nipple, as the nipple slides into the slot on the chain guide! so im guessing the mechanic who fitted this fit, never bled the tensioner correctly causing mine to wear? -

I know there are two types of tensioner bolts, hopefully when this was done it was the right bolt!! how do you bleed them again?? when I done mine 7 years ago I think I filled a cup full of oil, put the tensioner end in it and pushed down, then put it on the engine and cranked the engine over with no spark etc......... I disconnected the engine harness loom. -

cool, mine is at tdc but the cams are the other way to yours? or does the camshaft spin two times everytime the crank pulley does one spin? also engine is empty of oil, is it ok to gently turn it over by hand? ive emptied oil recently -

fitting 263 cams, do i need to use original timing marks? any guides?

yes going to whip the timing chain covers off jim and check, the crank one needs to be at 9pm and intermediate at 12pm i think? marks will be on engine, really could do with a hand as ive never touched a vr6 engine timing wise and im making myself paranoid now!! im in south london over the water! -
ive got some brand new 263 cams to go in my vr6 2.9 engine, do you just set the timing to the original marks as standard cams? or knock it back a tooth as they valves will be open for longer with the higher lift so don't want a piston hitting a valve. don't need to change my sprockets do I? also take it I need cam locking tools? what about cam timing disk? also is there a guide on here? kind regards

as title guys with no wear to the lobes! for my golf vr6 but corrado ones are the same!
-
yes i know about the top timing chain cover as my golf runs dizzy and the corrado engine going into my golf is a coilpack, its just the sprocket i need to swap i guess! is there a certain way i need to put the dizzy sprocket on? or do i just set both engines to TDC then remove the sprockets, so the dizzy sprocket from my golf engine is in exactly the same place when i put it on the corrado engine? or i will mess the firing order up if i put it on in any direction?
-
hi guys my golf vr6 2.8 engine is smokey and it runs on a dizzy, the corrado 2.9 engine i am putting in runs on a coilpack so does not have the dizzy sprocket on the end of the camshaft. so i need to remove the sprocket bolt from my current golf 2.8 dizzy sprocket to put on corrado 2.9 engine camshaft. question is, is it as simple as that to swap it over nothing else needs to be done? also that bracket, is there a certain way it goes onto my new corrado 2.9 engine or can i just put it on any way??? i take it the sprocket must have some sort of groove?
