  1. Graham Pettigrew of Winchburgh (about 7 miles from me in Linlithgow) is one of the best in central Scotland. He has done two jobs for me on the VR6. He is the autoelectrician for several garages around here, including VAG. I will look for contact details. Can send mobile no. if you require it.
  2. My 1995 VR6 door handle fitted by VAG about 6 years ago was NOT that number, anyway. Cheers
  3. Does not say much for the quality control procedures in that department, either. :epicfail:
  4. I suggest you make sure the car is on plumb level ground. My local exhaust man said the exhaust on our Pug 205 could not be adjusted any more to prevent occasional banging underneath. He showed me how one wheel arch was nearer the tyre than its opposite number at other side of car, adding that the Pug 205 suspension was clapped out. I kind of believed him, though car had passed MOT at our fussy (but good) local garage a few weeks earlier. When I took car home and checked clearances of wheel arches on my own drive they looked equal. I went to a Peugeot specialist for a (paid for) assessment of suspension overall. After 20 minute suspension check he came back and said all was in good order - nothing needing replaced or adjusted. Clearly, only a check like this or an instrumental suspension geometry test can reveal the truth. Judging by eye just ain't good enough. At least that is my conclusion. I would suggest you do not rush into anything rash. Good luck.
  5. Autoglym cleaner followed by vinyl protector every time. Hosing Gunk off once gave me a dry bearing in an alternator. Stinks, too!
  6. Yes - aux coolant pump (electric) switches on to prevent localised hot spots developing and consequent warping of head, so I believe. I can hear mine - dont know enough about it to confirm there is an airlock as pianowire says.
  7. I just meant that most people on here already have a Rado Yeah but, no but, lots of the guys with say, a 16v/G60 :norty: /or standard VR6 aspire to upgrading to a storm.
  8. Chubz Hi, just gone on that site for quote. Will they do scrappage deal, though? Have added estimated for delivery to Scotland. Charges can be £250-£500. Try autoquake for quote. You get the name of the dealer/phone no, etc. and can use quote and details to negotiate with your own dealer of choice. Am getting 5-door with couple of options and drivethedeal figure is about £800 less than I am paying. Perhaps no scrappage deal from drivethe deal, though? Anyway, for peace of mind etc. I am happier to be dealing with local Toyota dealer in Falkirk (7 miles) who is (so they said) doing the scrappage deal of £2k. They were first Toyota dealer in UK over 40 years ago - "not many people know that." I see in "breaking news" just now that Ford are baulking about scrappage deal today. When I went to showroom, the saleswoman said a fortnight ago "availability of Fiesta may be a problem." She wasn't kidding! I kicked them into touch right away for their attitude.
  9. The main thing is, tonedef, your girl is safe - could have been bad! The R32, though? - Your missus deserves a good spanking when you get home, I would say. By the way, I quoted Clarkson, but he was not using the phrase when talking about car supermarkets. He is an overgrown schoolboy but comes out with the odd flippant remark that appeals. "I've nothing against old people driving, but I don't want to be driving along the motorway one day to find a person in the same carriageway, wearing a cap and driving towards me." Think of this and snigger everytime I wear the bonnet!
  10. tonedef suggested: I would however be shopping around car supermarkets etc to see if I could not get a better discounted price on a cash sale first, Car supermarkets? FFS, as Jeremy Clarkson once said, "I would rather staple my ears to a horse!" I'm after a quieter life now, man. You will understand later,. :)
  11. I had heard that the cars for the chop were dismantled for recyclable materials at the nominated facility. I agree about the cockeyedness of the scheme. The large amount of energy used to make the 205 nearly 20 years ago need not be wasted if people like us could afford to ignore the "offer" and keep it running for who knows how long. Clearly, the governments' who are implimenting the scheme only want to kick start the car manufacturing industries above everything else. I suppose if anyone on here's job was at stake they would not be calling the scheme cockeyed? What about the vast amount of new spares for scrapped models like the 205 sitting in stock around the world? The enegy used to make them has been wasted. The pm10 particulates from old technology diesels do cost health services billions, but in Scotland, eg. where the winds blow free all too frequently, is there any advantage in the trade off of scrapping a sound old tech diesel that does 50mpg just because it produces minute sooty particles that are readily dispersed and washed out? LA, Mexico City or London this town ain't.
  12. Sorry - I know what I mean - I think! 205 scrappage is in deal but I am now getting SR for similar price to his first quote for TR after showing what I could get SR for from dealer in England. I expect if one waits until December, a few £hundred or £k more will be there for determined hagglers. Pics are of Pug's last camping trip to Highlands a couple of days ago. Still trying to remember all the settings on that EOS30D! :confused4:
  13. dr _mat said You sure you couldn't negotiate £2k off the new car anyway?? I'd bet you'd get closer than you'd think, and the 205 has to be worth £500 of that on it's own. For the first time ever, I did a really strong haggle and am getting the car from my nearest garage in Falkirk. As a bargaining tool, I used the low price offered on the car by a company somewhere in England on the website "carquake". They could do an SR for less than my first quote for TR. I went back to local guy and he came within £150 of low price from English dealer for SR! (Less than delivery to Scotland, that.)
  14. Turning Nipponese. First time for me. We have put down deposit for Yaris SR 1.4D Cannot miss scrappage offer as we are both retired. £35 tax and overall "69mpg" they say. Max 109mph 0-60 in about 10.5 secs. Dont laugh - that was "sports car" performance in the 1970s. (Faster than coupes like 1600cc Manta, Capri, Celica, etc.) Downside is that our trusty, faultless 18-year old Pugit 205 GLD with 99700 miles on bombproof 50mpg engine and MOT till Feb 2010 has to meet the crusher. What a waste and a sin! Why not give us £2k to keep it? They are not getting my Alpine ICE - £20 on ebay "new and boxed" a few months ago. Any market for intact 205 parcel shelves, spare with unused Pirelli, etc?
  15. OK, so no one has knowledge/anything to say about "CarQuake". What about the dealers Thurlow Nunn, anyone?
  16. Anyone used, or know of anyone with experience of this website? They "use only franchised dealers". After looking for a quote for a small hatchback - which was provided, and looks good - I was referred to a dealer known as Thurlow Nunn in Cambridgeshire and am waiting for contact with them.
  17. My daughter spoke to a guy called Corrado a couple of years ago when phoning about setting up a mortgage. There was a thread on it - I had not heard the name before but others had.
  18. May not be same solution for you adwhitt, but funnily enough, I put my C in for MOT last year thinking it was hunky dory. He failed it cos he said every time he tried to put on fog lights (front) a fuse blew. :mad2: Unable to find problem at fuses, I thought I might have reinstalled front bumper and lights incorrectly when replacing crack pipe & thermostat housiog etc, 6 months previously. So I dismantled lights/indicators and put them back together again - making sure no leads were stretched or forced over each other. Bingo! AOK then.
  19. Formidable! I bought my Corrado in 2002. Had holiday in France in 2003, 2004 and 2005 - did not see one Corrado. :confused4: We were not in the cities, but at Arcachon. I have Scottish/French cousins in Barsac, Bordeaux and Bayonne.
  20. Our trusty 205 non-turbo diesel passed another MOT this Feb. It is 18 years old. I was looking for an excuse to deem it uneconomical to repair, as last year service and MOT stuff (disks etc) gave us bill for £600. But we are keeping it just now. Maybe the government will give us a couple of thousand for it some day soon! Engine is bomb proof. Bits that broke were plastic hook for parcel shelf (twice) - I replaced it with brass cup hook that will outlast car! One window regulator seized. £42 to replace so I cannibalised one from rear window that we hardly use. Sawed in half and rejoined with proper bit for front with JB weld. Ok again. What a cheapskate this car has made me  Would not buy modern French car, though. Dealers get slated in surveys, but cars sell like hot cakes up here. :confused4:
  21. One of the easiest diy diagnoses this IMO. Open bonnet with engine idling. Spray water onto coil pack with plant mister. If engine falters more and you can see arcing (best do this in the shade) coilpack is a culprit. If coilpack is over 10 years old it is almost certainly suffering from hairline cracks in the plastic casing. Very common fault.
  22. Mine read just below 70C on motorway on 130 mile trip on Tuesday. Ambient temp 8-11C. Nowt much wrong IMO. Fan(s) come on OK I believe. Oil temp getting up to 80C in about 15 mins then up to 90-100 at times later. 33.4mpg on 130 mile run - mixed roads, speeds and revs.
  23. I believe the girl was Ginger Baker's daughter. At the time I just thought of the album cover as boldly arty - common stuff in those days. Most of the buyer's like me (and your dad, no doubt) were merely hungry for more of Eric Clapton and co. Also, most adults in those days did not know how prevalent paedophilia probably was. Today, everyone knows about the scourge, and such a cover would cause outrage and not be allowed on open sale.
  24. Re "Blind Faith" - the supergroup that failed. I am old enough to own the vinyl LP. IIRC, Eric Clapton's guitar on "In the presence of the Lord" was a highlight. I just bought Corrine Bailey Ray's album. Bit late, I know, but was taken with sound track to film "Venus" on telly the other week. Cooler, jazzy music than the single would have had you believe. "Nice".
