    Thanks Shaun.

Yes the easiest thing to do is to get the smallest u-bracket you can find (Screwfix do them i think) and screw this across the top of the channel, underneath the yellow plastic.  This holds the plastic portion in place and maintains tension in the cable guide. Best to pull the cable sheath as far up as possible before you mark the holes to drill, then just screw the loop down.

Use the base portion, which is usually a slotted billet piece, on the cable side, and put the loop portion on the other side - if that makes sense!

    Hope that helps

    That’s really helpful, thanks Hasan.

  2. Thanks all, so far, I’ve discovered that the driver’s side one is damaged (I suspect by the bending of the door).  The yellow plastic guide at the top of the channel has broken allowing the cable sheath to move past it.  This is going to affect the mechanism.  The cable sheath further down has also broken (although that can be taped up to stop it moving as the cable still runs freely).

I think that I’m going to put/leave the manual winders in for now just so I can get it back on the road in a drivable condition to get it to a body shop to fix the rest of it!  While it’s there, I can look at repair kits/replacement regulators to fix the electric mechanism and refit that at a later date.

Any interest in a Genuine VW manual window conversion kit for our Corrado's? | VW Vortex - Volkswagen Forum

This is off the Vortex, so not 100% sure if it would be factory - I'd say all leather interiors were electric, so the door cards would be cloth. The handles apparently are from a Passat.

Thanks for posting that, I'd seen it in my research this morning,  but reading around the topic suggested it was a conversion (driven by broken electric windows...😁)

It must be an error in the door cards I'm looking at, as the passenger one has a hole for the manual winder,  but the driver's one has the square hole for the switches.

    Back to the drawing board!

  4. I’m trying to get my G60 back on the road, and am considering making the step from electric to manual (one of the cable sheaths snapped in removing the regulator).

I’ve found some door cards, for manual windows but think that there should be a blanking plate for where the manual winding mechanism to which the handle attaches, where it protrudes through the door card in place of the electric window switch.

if anyone has a photo of the arrangement they can post up, I’d be most grateful!

    Thanks.

Nice work. When i removed  my doors I undid all of the fiddly wiring in the door and removed them that way !!! What a pain 😁. I only considered  being able to do it your way when putting them back on.

    Good luck with it

Thanks, although I’m not going to take credit for coming up with the idea....the doors I picked up from the breaker had been disconnected in the same way, and I though, “that’s a good idea!”

    😂

  6. A few hours well spent after work today, means that the driver's door is off.

The actual removal of the door isn't too bad, it's getting at, tracing and removing the wiring connectors that was the pain!

Much easier when you've moved the fuse box out of the way!

The wiring looms for the old door and the replacement older door are different,  so I'll have to transfer them.

Finished replacing the Rad and heater matrix which both went after replacing a low opening thermostat. Got away with it for 27 years so can't complain!!

Yes,  good work. I have the thermostat to replace on mine,  but as I did the matrix as a preventative measure a few years ago,  I'm hoping to get away without similar issues.

I've just finished removing the driver's door on mine!

  8. Well, If it doesn't have to be a car (sorry), I'd love a Kawasaki H2R.  Do I have the talent to ride it to its full capacity? Hell no.

Do I love the fact that they looked at a 1000cc bike and thought - 'that needs a supercharger?' Oh hell yes!

Car wise,  that's trickier, but probably an AC Ace with a Bristol engine. Partly because my dad had one that I never saw because he sold it long before I was born, but mostly because I think the design is quite handsome.

Hi Tom, I'm not sure on the mechs but have this job to do on my 16v eventually so will be good to hear.

Re the rear quarter windows I took screenshots of a thread on Facebook the other day that might be just what you need:d4c6149cda4fa1e86da09e88675c0775.jpg047df23e4b8411762d2da33dd3da2ca9.jpg1a79b1f836543a24d995446db58d137f.jpg

That is exactly that I needed! Thank you very much!

I'll take plenty of shots of the window progress to try and return the favour. I've already replaced the rivets with bolts on the passenger side, so that should make things a bit easier....

  10. Thanks for the kind words all, yes I do love Sebrings, they are easily my favourite Corrado wheel (I had a set on my Mk2 GTD as well).

I made a start on swapping the doors over last night,  I think I just need to drill out and swap the mechanisms over.  If by any chance,  someone has a mk2 golf or Corrado window winding handle they could lend me, that might make life easier!

Hope to get the doors swapped over to make it drivable. Any tips on bonding in a rear window greatly appreciated....

  11. Ah ha,  found my old topic from....wow.. .. Over 6 years ago.

Well as my thread on PH is over 14 pages,  and I'm not typing it all out again,  the very quick summary is:

Went to JMR,  spent a lot of money on unexpected problems.

Drove it,  upgraded headlights,  added oil cooler, fixed bits and pieces (door handles, bonnet cables, top mounts etc.), changed clocks, went to Le Mans,  went round Snetterton, got caught speeding (oops),  had the charger refurbed again (and again after oil seal failure).

It got broken into last weekend and is currently awaiting attention at a bodyshop.

I have a list of things still to do,  and will keep updating here as well as Pistonheads.

In the mean time,  here's a picture from January.

HI Tom! I'm over on PH as well - gutted to see what happened to that G60 you've put years and years of love into.

As a side note - get a readers ride post going on this forum - your documented Corrado owneship adventures make great reading (except this last bit about the break in). I'm going to start one again as all my pictures have disappeared.

Thought I recognised the username! 😁

Also,  I'm going there's not too many other G60 owners needing new doors out there....!

  13. Inept attempt at theft for a joyride I think (they had a half - hearted go at the ignition area as well) .

Nothing on display worth pinching (they went through the glove compartment too, discarding my spare fuel pump relay in disgust).

I'll get her sorted and back on the road. Already got the doors and window from a 16v that I found being broken. Less than £400 too fortunately! I'll start looking for body shops next week....

  14. This was Sunday last week.

The insurance company have assigned the repair to the VW main dealer who have been to take a look and said they think they can straighten the doors.

The other options are a write off and buy back or cash in lieu and I find my own body shop.

I've already sourced replacement doors and glass from a breaker (as I thought they were going to write it off) so we'll probably take the money.

  15. I have a G60 that is the most modern and regularly used car in the household. It’s not used daily, but a good few times a week, and is parked on the street outside.

A good quality car cover keeps the worst of the sap and guano off, although we rarely keep it on all of the time.

I’ve done a waxoyl treatment if the underside, and when using it in winter regularly jet wash the underside of the arches to get the salt out of the crevasse.

Mostly, it’s been keeping on top of the preventative stuff (replacing brake pipes with cunifer for example) and changing the oil regularly.

While there have been hiccups, it’s all been common car issues thus far (battery, puncture etc). Been the most reliable Corrado I’ve ever owned (although I did spend a lot bringing it up to scratch shortly after buying it).

I think it helps that the 8v engine is pretty tough, and a well looked after charger isn’t that fragile!

    Cheers,

    Thom

  16. I have an old bit of brake line with a banjo connector on the end, which, when combined with a track pump, was a really good way of getting brake pistons out of motorbike calipers.

I've since bought a specific pair of pliers for the job though, so it wasn't that good!

  17. Well it was last week, but I managed to get the old exhaust replaced with a new OE type one from Germany.

I suspect it was either for a 16v or a non-Cat G60 as it needed some TLC with an angle grinder and the addition of an exhaust clamp to actually make it fit....

However, with rear passengers, it still runs on the rear beam so needs a little more investigation!

  18. Roose motorsport supplied me a RHD set of G60 hoses in March 2017 so they do have them. Initially they sent me a set for a Golf G60 which didn’t fit (!) but sorted it all out when I contacted them. Excellent customer service.

Not the cheapest, but I was happy with what I got (less so with having to change two of the hoses which were a right pig to do...).

    Cheers,

    Thom

  19. Evening,

I've just replaced my exhaust with another (standard) one - the one that came off is serviceable, apart from the connection between the backbox and the hanger has snapped and needs welding back on.

If anyone would like it to fix up, it's free to a good home (collection only from York though I'm afraid). I can post pictures if anyone wants it.

    Cheers,

    Thom
