  1. Superb cars, and nippy with it (more so than you might think). Any lack of straight line performance is more than made up for my their sure-footedness.

I'd echo what others have said about getting a Mk1 Eunos too, a friend has just picked one up from eBay and it's a corker.

    Cheers,

    Tom

  2. I agreed that drivers on the continent seem better than those in the UK (with the possible exception of the Belgiums who will be 3" from your rear bumper at 80mph in a cloudburst...). I had a thoroughly pleasant time driving to Luxembourg and then on to the Nurburgring a little while back.

Definitely worth the detour, but I'd treat it as a gentle excursion and just enjoy the experience of driving it if you have any distance to go once you've been there... I managed 4 laps in the Golf with only slight wear to the tyres and got all the way back without missing a beat.

    Have fun!

    Cheers,

    Tom

  3. I agree on the potholes having been out on the bike yesterday. There were a couple of corners that really shook it up! Still, the tax on a 125 is only £15/year, so I can't complain, I don't think that would pay for a single pothole!

I can thoroughly recommend it as a cheap mode of transport though, and if I had to commute any distance to work, 105mpg would easily sway me!

  4. Modelling the slope stability of a clay core dam and the slopes of the reservoir that it's to contain. If I finish that, I get to do settlement calculations for the spillway & pump house design as well. I lead an exciting life!

Meeting a forum member tomorrow though to discuss the sale of the VR so it's not all bad (apart from having to sell it of course).

    Enjoy the sunshine all!

  5. Yup, same principle with buildings, bridges etc. Anything with a high embodied energy value which has already been constructed, should be kept in service as long as possible IMO.

By all means replace broken/written-off vehicles with lighter more fuel efficient ones, but scrapping servicable vehicles because they're 'old' seems foolish and wasteful.

  6. Well, I might have found the cause of mine, so if your hasn't gone already it could be worth checking to see if it's the same. Turn's out after a new dizzy, plugs & leads, the verdamdt garage hadn't fitted 4 out of the 6 plug leads correctly, and they were arcing to the block. :censored:

I'll do some more testing though to find out if that's definitely the case....

    Cheers,

    Tom

P.S. If you're using the metal plug lead removal tool with a running engine in the rain, make sure you're wearing rubber soled shoes (and don't put your right hand on any earthing point of the car either... :) )

  7. Yup, it's just had a new set of plugs and leads (and a dizzy too)! I changed the air intake elbow after I bust the original one at the track day  however that's a good tip as to where to check it. I shall have a look prior to giving it an Italian tune up with a bottle of injector cleaner tomorrow.... :D

  8. well im planning on Servicing the G this Weekend, Looked in a few books, and its recommending 10w40 Semi Synthetic,

    So i thought Castrol Mangatec,

Anyone got anyother Recommendations? What have you used in the past?

    Adam.

I've never owned a G60, but everything I've owned tends to get a decent quality 10w40 semi-synthetic, changed every 6 months. If it meets (& exceeds) the manufacturers recommendations (I think VW run from 500 onwards). Your local motor factors should have something relatively decent that doesn't break the bank. I use Unipart's 'own' brand (because there's a branch just down the road from me :) ).

    Cheers,

    Tom

  9. I feel for you I really do. Mine's getting trailered off this week to JMR - where I should have taken it all along.

...and I for you man. I'll be calling my garage in the morning, and if they find out what's wrong, I'll post up what it was to make things easier for you.

Currently eyeing up the ECU & Fuel pump relays as my next 'cheap' fix.

    Good luck!

    Cheers,

    Tom

  10. Much obliged Kev, thanks for that. I assumed that it was a sod to do, however, it's unlikely that the knock sensor is the cause of the misfire, so it can wait for now... Good to eliminate the possibility of having an incorrectly blanked off part causing the popping on the overrun. Let the hunt continue...

I think the cam position sensor forms part of the distributor on the dizzy models, so that's one down!

    Cheers,

    Tom

  11. Just a further question/favour for anyone with a VR6 please. The new damper valve has a main 'in' and 'out' (about 10mm connections) but also a much smaller pipe which is blanked off, but still has a hose to attach to.

The old one also seemed to be blanked off about 7mm down the pipe where it joined the main body of the valve, but I couldn't say for sure.

Can anyone confirm that this third pipe should be blanked off? If so, can they explain (just to satisfy my curiosity) what the purpose of having a hose connected to it is!

    Cheers,

    Tom
