No, that's fine thanks. I thought as much but sometimes best to just ask the question. Cheers Ben.

Hi all, Might be a stupid question, but I can't seem to find a definitive answer. Is the starter & Alternator the same on a 1.8 16v and VR6. As far as I can tell the alternator is different. One eBay seller says the starters are the same, but a load of others say they are different. Anyone know for sure??? Cheers Ben.

No sorry. Was a while ago now. Ben.

I bought 2 switches from maplin, the closest they sell are slightly shorter in length but I put a small strip of steel between the switch and the housing and it kept everything solid and now works as intended. The steel is maybe a bit overkill, anything about 1mm thickness that you can cut into a small square about the size of the end profile of the 2 switches when sat next to each other would be fine. Ben.

The auto box won't have a flywheel/clutch so you will need to get both of those for it. As far as I'm aware any engine will be the same for either auto or manual so yes you can just get a box, clutch & flywheel and bolt it all together. You may need a different starter, I'm not 100% sure if the autos use the same one, but when you get a box, try and get the one that came with it. Ben.

Just replied to your pm. Will post here too just in case anyone else has already tried this. Part number 113 611 153 c is essentially the same thing but for a beetle brake master cylinder. No idea if it's the exact same size but might be close enough to do the job. Ben.

That could have been me. Was around that area last night at about 6. Ben.

Here ya go, It's actually a lot better condition than I thought and should probably have asked for more but it's your lucky day since I've already told you a price. Ben.

Mr frog, try trimsport if no luck here, they do disks for their alloy gear knobs. Not sure if they are exactly the same size as a standard one but always worth an ask. Ben.
-
I have a spare knob. It's in good condition but I will get some pictures up for you anyway. Will be at volksfling this weekend but can get it sorted on Monday. £10 posted. Ben.

As above. Just finished packing the cars. Who else is going? I will be there all weekend in my new purchase. Hoping the weather brightens up a bit. At least it's not raining, yet. Ben.

I never got a comms error in vagcom, just wouldn't start. Can't remember which pin it is but put a multimeter on the ecu switched live and an earth as you crank it, if it goes off that's your problem. If not that's about as much help as I can offer. Rubjohnny on club gti would be the man to ask though. He is a bit of a wiring loom legend. Ben.

My scirocco did the exact same thing when I put my 20v engine in. Check your ecu is still getting power when you're turning the engine over. The fusebox pin I had used to power my ecu was turning off when the starter was engaged. Moved it over to a different one and it worked first turn of the key. Ben.

Fairly minor clutch master cylinder woes, part needed.
Bengould replied to jekel's topic in Drivetrain
I haven't totally forgotten, It's been sitting on my drive for the past week and every time I walk past it I think "I must get that sorted". Managed to actually pick it up tonight so it is currently sat on my desk. If you PM me your address I'll get it sent to you asap. Ben -
Try http://www.martrim.co.uk. You may need a sample but they keep stock of a lot of different material. Ben

I may have. I am in the process of swapping both my master and slave cylinders. Will check the condition and let you know. Ben -
Recommendation for basic bluetooth headunit with easy peasy fitting?
Bengould replied to dr_mat's topic in ICE 'n' Secure
Any of the "big" brands, Sony, alpine, Kenwood etc, will be plenty reliable and all straight forward to fit. As long as your original iso wiring loom is still there and unchopped. Most, at least at mid range and above, will come with Bluetooth. I think dab is still a bit of a rarity, although I have to admit I haven't looked into stereos for years now. Nip into halfords and have a play with the stereo wall, find one you like the look of and features of, then go buy it online cheaper. Ben. -
Cheers, it's clearly had a respray at some point in its life and unfortunately there are a few areas that need attention. Which probably means I'll never get a decent paint match in these areas. But overall the bodywork appears to be pretty good. As usual at this age a lot of the black plastic isn't very black anymore too, but this is something I'm very used to with having several Sciroccos prior to this. I'm sure I'll find plenty more to moan about, but overall it's not a bad car, just a few minor issues which can only be expected at this age. Ben.

Cheers for all the replies. Have run out of brake fluid for now, so will bleed the full system when I get some more. I clamped the rubber hose today and pressed the clutch in and the pedal seems to hold pressure fine, so am thinking it's most likely the slave cylinder. Will get one ordered and see if that solves it. Going to replace the hose from the reservoir to the master cylinder too, it looks well past its best. Think I have some spare from the other halfs beetle. Jekel, if swapping the slave cylinder doesn't help I may well take you up on that offer. ETKA lists 2 master cylinders, up to 31st July 92 and from 1st august 92 on, doesn't say what the differences are though just that there is a part number change. Slave cylinder is the same for all years. Ben.

Hi all, Just got my first corrado and it has an issue with the clutch pedal. I thought it was just air in the line but have bled it several times today and am still in the same position. Sometimes it works fine, sometimes it feels a bit soft. Sometimes the pedal doesn't return at all, infact quite the opposite, it pulls itself down to the floor. I have made a little video to show what it is doing, probably makes it a bit more obvious than my [video=youtube_share;a5yVladign0] I'm guessing, since bleeding has made no difference, it has got to be either the master or slave cylinder. However there is no sign of leakage from either. Does anyone have any idea which it is more likely to be?? I don't want to replace both if I don't have too, am a bit skint at the moment after buying my first corrado. ;-) Ben

Well, as promised, here she is. Got a bit of work to do on the Subaru in the background this morning, but hopefully will be able to have a look at the clutch problem this afternoon. Ben.

Hi, I recognise the username, have probably exchanged advice (good or bad, either is a possibility) at some point. Was a totally unplanned purchase, was just starting to get things together to rebuild the rocco and it came up for a reasonable sum, so thought sod it. Will be getting a good once over on Thursday, and I'll make making a list of things to buy/fix. The first of which will be the clutch, it works when it feels like it. Pretty sure it just needs bleeding but if that doesn't help will be needing a new slave/master cylinder. Ben.

Hi all, Have just become the proud owner of a corrado 16v so thought I'd better join a forum. Have had a few mk2 Sciroccos over the last 6 or so years, from my first 1.6 8v auto to my current 20vt. Had a lot of fun. Spotted a bargain on gumtree the other day, went for a look tonight and ended up bringing it home. Needs a little TLC, as most cars of a certain age do, but nothing I can't manage to get sorted. Long term plans I'm unsure, may just run it as is may stick my 20v engine in at some point. Anyway, I'm sure I'll have plenty of reading to do and you'll all get plenty of stupid questions. Will get some pics up soon. Wish me luck. Ben.
