  1. Hey all,

I need some fairly urgent help to determine if what I found today when under the bonnet of my G60 is normal and whether car is safe to be driven like this. Basically I lifted off the front strut covers and found this below.

Is is normal for there to be this gap between the top of the strut tower / housing and the actual top of the strut itself ? It is on boths sides of the front of the car.

I need to know this fairly urgently so if anyone can shed any light on this it would be much appreciated so I can decide whether or not I can drive the car !

    Cheers and thanks in advance,

  2. Hey all,

I have just fitted my set of winter rims (Speedline 7x16" came off an e30 F reg BMW) to my rado. I got a set of locking wheelnuts with the wheels which have straight tapers on them and I noticed that on fitting the genuine VAG ones back onto the car that they had rounded tapers / shoulders ?

Does this then mean that I need to get some genuine e30 BMW wheelbolts with the same straight tapers to ensure that the wheels do not wobble about and potentially come off the car !!

Also, apart from the BMW dealers (doubt they would have them instock anyways !), where can I get a set this close to Christmas and ensure I get them for Friday ?

    Cheers

  3. So they are still available for £6 for a set from the dealer (or £6 each ?) If £6 each then this set is not bad priced including postage, esp. if stealer out of stock. And are they the same as these ones pictured below ?

  4. Hi all,

Does anyone know if the standard 58 mm sparkle grey / silver Speedline alloy wheel centre-caps (to fit Corrado VR6 and mk3 Golf) are still available from the stealers or elsewhere and for how much ? I need to get a set for my winter wheels. Have seen a set for £30 elsewhere (is this about right price ?), but tif they are still available and cheaper from the stealer I will just get them from VAG.

  5. Looks like a Merc Eaton M62 charger to me. Was browsing earlier and found these vids.........(1st one mk2 VR6 12v turbo, 2nd one SP Jetta driven by Bill Schimmel on a "Sunday drive".......3rd is EIP Tuning's mk3 VR6 12v turbo doing nearly 11 sec qtr dead)

  6. Can't remember the reg (think it was F241 BVV) of the one that came up for sale a few times over a few months on eBay at an expensive price (think it was bought by tomlin100 on here who was from around Sunderland way), but it could be that one, as it was a "press-car". Was defo a red, 16V F' reg tho and can't check back as the thread has been deleted. That said all of the ten original press-cars were red 16V, F reg's with sequential plates on them, from the details I have the registrations were F235 BVV to F245 BVV.

  7. Lovely cars, unfortunately, I've seen three of them up here in Aberdeen, two of which are driven by absolute knobber of owners. One insists on razzing it constantly up and down the main street and past bars every fri and sat nite and the other one I know, well he's just a smug git who thinks the world revolves around him and his "business" empire (1x nightclub, 1x small country hotel and 2 bars paid for by various "deals") and who treats anyone under him and his staff like crap.

This all said, I'd still have one likes....... ;-)

Sure I've heard there is someone in the process of fitting a W12 into a Corrado somewhere ?

  8. I think £1400 is a little bit optimistic, as they are not worth as much as full leather heated leccy Recaro's (if complete then £1000-£1200). I would have said a complete half-leather interior with loom and switches and doorcards would be worth £800-£1000 max.

    Cloth ones are worth £600-£800.

If the interiors are sold on eBay the bidding can get silly which helps to push the price up. However, a black leather Recaro heated leather interior minus doorcards (doorcards worth £250 or so for set if mint) went on eBay last week for £740, so makes sense if worth around £1000 all in.

This all said, I have seen complete mint interiors go for up to £1500 on eBay......kinda silly really when you can get a complete MJ retrim for less than that !

  9. Indicators flash orange with with the top-tinted lights I did, and reverse showed fine as well, no need for lines on the reverse light portion to be left untinted. She passed an MOT no probs and I never been stopped by old bill in either rado !

BTW that's my old white G60 in the pics above, not long after it's full respray, thought it looked real good with the tinted lights and dark tinted windows etc. My new G60 is Subaru sonic blue in colour, and have only ever had the FK crystal-smoked on it, which am not sure bout now (whatever happens they will be getting cleaned and dechromed when I get her back and on the road !).

    Cheers

  10. Not sure on the reds yet, undecided as to go with tinting my FK's top half or using the red film on them as quite like the crystal-look (or just flogging them on), or tinting the top-half of the spare set I have black as on my old white G60 (see pics below, think they loved ace on it) or getting another spare set of standard lights and using the red film on them, decisions, decsions.........maybe I will do all three, LOL!

Think th all-red looks goo on the black though mate, nice one !

  11. New pair lights (can't buy separately) = £120 ish

Quarter panel / arch / spoiler / tailgate repair and spray (5-6 hrs labour @ £35 poss more per hr plus VAT (or whatever hourly labour rate a decent bodyshop in your locality charges private customers) = £200 ish

    Materials = £50-£100

(the damage on the pictured parts is repairable, however, an awkward repair by the area of the damage, just make sure it's done by reputable bodyshop, there is no point buying new parts, only quarter-panel and tailgate still available anyways....at £1700+VAT for the pair, then you would have to buy 2nd-hand bumper and rear spoiler, and get them prepped and painted then fitted !)

£120+£100+£200 = £420-£450 (say £500 and it would all be covered, just to be on safe-side)

Cheers, HTH and you get it sorted.

  12. B******* mate,

Get a second-hand bonet on here or wherever for £100ish, get it prepped / painted and fitted for another £100........£600 that's total overkill (if price for NEW bonnet then fair enough but no need for new one). Ok you could claim on your insurance, but for the sake of summat that will cost you £200 most to get sorted (your XS will be £100 at least anyways I would have thought ?) I'd just bite the bullet and get it done.

Good luck anyways whatever you decide.

  13. Am a bit concerned about the front mount I have fitted to my G60. I have heard that on a couple of occasions, people have had these front mounts fail on them resulting in damage to bodywork etc. I have currently got one of these fitted to my G60 and was wondering if there are any alternativs or if there is any more info about what exactly happened in tn instancs where these mounts supplied have indeed failed ?

    Cheers

  14. Bill, need 7" on front and 8" on rear or ideally 8" all round, et will be 52.5 normally so would use 20mm or 25mm adapters. I can let you know a cheap source ofD90's for refurbing if you require, or there is alwyas sets going on here or more commonly, edition38.

  15. I wouldn't go for a K+N as there is no heatshield or cold-air feed supplied wit hthe kit. Personally I'd go for a BMC carbon induction kit as it comes suppled with a cold-air feed to duct cold air in from outside the engine. These can be had from Stealth Racing, Venom Motorsport, Demon Tweeks, Rimstyle autodesign, Eurotek, Big Boys Toys etc.
