  1. A few times since buying my G60 about four weeks ago I have noticed that my accelerator pedal sticks a bit. At first I thought it was some sort of auto-choke as the revs didn't really go above 1250 rpm without me touching the pedal. Anyway, this morning it felt much worse. The revs would go up to 2-3000 rpm without me touching the pedal! When I parked up I noticed that after acceleration, the pedal doesn't come out fully unless I put my foot under it and lift it up! Any idea how to fix this as its dangerous???!!!! Thanks.
  2. Its a 1991 G60 with 101k on the clock. I have no idea how hard it was driven but I suppose being a Corrado they are all driven hard??!! I have just found out that the 'sniff test' just checks for air leaks or something like that. My car does have a slight water leak which the mechanic could not locate (he thinks it is down to the head gasket being on its way out). Somebody has suggested I use RAD WELD to fix the problem? PLEASE HELP! I am tearing my hair out! :(
  3. I have just bought a G60 with full MOT (a week ago) and decided to get it into a garage for a service. I was recommended to go to a guy who used to work for VW and now has his own little garage by himself. The total service cost came to £140 as I had to have new brake cables fitted to the rear (apparently the rear brakes were binding really bad - can't say I noticed). The garage also inform me that the head gasket is on its way out. The car is running quite hot (I thought G60's did anyway)? They did something called a 'sniff test' (correct me if I'm wrong) whereby the mechanic shoved a container with blue liquid into my water inlet and run the engine for a while. Eventually(after a good few minutes) it started to turn yellow and froth a bit. This he says means that the gasket is on its way out. They have quoted me £370 to have it done in a couple of days time (replace the head gasket, bolts and valve stem). :( I am really sceptical as I know nothing about engines and the last thing I want is to be ripped off by somebody taking advantage of my lack of knowledge. Please advise urgently as I have had to break the bank to buy and insure the car!! Thanks enormously.
  4. Thanks Henry. Charger was rebuilt to stage S4 in Sept 2001. Will I still need to get it inspected?
  5. Maybe thats what its doing, cutting the power. Its like the car is telling me to change gear (as you would expect at full revs). It doesnt actually kick me out of gear into neutral, i think I worded it wrong. The car sort of jolts, is this what you mean by cutting the power? Just done a boost test too. I couldn't quite get to redline in 3rd and 4th (bloody traffic) but I was still getting around 1900. Is this a good sign? Jim - I have a certificate from Jabba Sport (the car came with stacks of invoices dating back to 1991) with the vehicle reg on and the receipt. Thanks for the rapid responses guys!
  6. Told you I am new. Probably posted this in completely the wrong forum section....
  7. Howdy all. A year after passing my test and driving an awful P Reg'd Ford Escort Encore 1.3 rattler I have just purchased a red 1991 J Reg'd G60. It has had the following modifications: Supercharger rebuilt to stage S4 (in Sept 1991), engine chip and pulley, induction kit (what the hell does that mean?), new boost pipe and a Cobra Sport stainless steel exhaust system. It certainly goes in comparison to my old car! Such a pleasure to drive!! Obviously I am expecting to be spending a lot on fuel but the on board computer is telling me around 17 mpg's (around town, have yet to take it on a long journey). Is this all I am to expect fuel wise?!? I filled up the tank yesterday and already it is down to jst below 3/4 and I have done only 40 miles. I have put my foot down a few times (as is to be expected until or if the novelty wears off) so maybe this has some bearing on it? Also what do you imagine the BHP to be on this car with the mods? What is the best type of oil to use? Another thing, in first gear if I take the revs up to the red it tends to 'kick' me out of gear. Is this a normal precautionary measure to stop me blowing up the engine or could something be wrong? Sorry if these questions seem stupid but I am a relatively inexperienced driver who loves Corrado's! I have heard it is essential to look after the supercharger as negligence can prove costly. Any tips on how to do this or what to look out for? Thanks in advance!
