Had a very similar problem on my corrado, with very erratic idling and throttle control. Turned out on the main engine loom, the wires had chafed through the plastic shielding and were shorting each other out. Start the engine, wiggle the harness about, and see if you can see anything tracking. Other than that, have you checked obvious stuff, plugs leads throttle body etc etc...

Not sure about the specifics for a Corrado, but whenever we used to change coolant, we Made sure the heater controls are on full heat, so it frees up anything left in the matrix area. I know it sounds stupid, but is the car on an incline at all, which might not free up the rest of the water. Other than that, you may find a sticky air lock. Best thing to do is refill it, and run the engine, keeping a close eye on the water temperature and expansion tank level! Then when its cooled down, drain it again!

It does sound a bit iffy doesn't it, but thats what they told me. Any suggestions how and where i can sort it?

Thats what i feared. At the time, they said that if the rear end goes in the air off speed humps and road imperfections, It can bend the axle when you land. Apparently, they've seen a few like that, and on the Mk2s as well. :!: So what now then. Is it possible to shim it?
-
Gonna attempt it this weekend, but it was AmD Technik in Bicester that diagnosed the bent axle, and I guess theyre pretty well known to a few people here.
-
I'll give it a go, but i'm not too hot on suspension components and knowing my luck i'll muller it!
-
Sorry to be a dumb ass, but I have the same problem with my car in that it pulls gently to one side. After getting a laser alignment, I was told that the rear axle was bent and that there was no adjustment in it. Kevhaywire mentioned that it could be "shimmed" to get it back in line. Does anyone know where i can get it done in the south east or london. thanks for your help.

Hello all, driving down the motorway with sunroof open, at 70 MPH of course!, then BANG!! i thought i'd hit an antelope or something! the window rubber that goes right round the edge of the windscreen half came out, and although i can push it back into its guide, it doesnt stay there. Any suggestions? i guess it needs to be bonded back down. Where can i get such a bonding glue? would Halfordstm stock it? many thanks in advance

E36 BMW M3 Evolution, the sound, the acceleration and the effortless cornering. Other than that, a 911 GT3 RS. But i work for Porsche, so unfortunately I see them as just another car. Driven every car in the range and if i was to own any car, it would be a Boxster S. You just cant get better handling. Take loads of cars in Part Ex which we use as hack abouts until we trade them on, and the most dissappointing car i ever drove was a TVR Chimera. Lusted after those when i was younger, and they are absolutely sh*t! Smoothest and most attention grabbing was definately the Bentley Continental GT, but really quite dull to drive. Still enjoy giving it some in the VR when i get home though.

so how did you go about getting your car to be in the article? did they come to you, or is there a way of getting your car known within the 'magazine trade'?

On the main engine loom (coming in to the engine on the top right hand side, looking at the front). the non-engine side of the harness, only about an inch from the connector. Its just a mass of wires and when we jiggled them about, you could see sparks tracking out across the loom and the engine went nuts at the same time. separated them all and cleaned them up, then could see which ones had chafed. reinsulated them, tidied them all back up and hey presto! My mechanic did all the work so i'm afraid i couldn't tell you exactly how he did it, but my guess is that he used heat shrinking wire insulation. hope that helps anyone who may get this problem. trust me its bloody irritating as it comes up on the diagnostic computer by showing up as a dozen or so sporradic faults with various sensors and doesn't help you narrow it down at all!

sod it i'm going to change the whole front of my car to one big spotlight. like the BATLIGHT they use to summon Batman! expect it'll have the VW sign on it!
-
i'm going to get some big roof spotlights now. i think that would look groovy! :-P

oh my god! what have i started!!!!??? I dont think its fair that i'm now in the w*nker category, though!
-
FIXED! just thought i'd let you all know that the problems got worse and worse. Finally found what was causing it. Two wires were chafing against each other on the main engine wiring loom and shorting out! one of which was the throttle wire! got them stripped back and reinsulated and now shes purring away like a kitten again! thanks christ for that!!!! 8)

Man! seems like i'm well outnumbered. to be fair, i've never experienced any problem with cracking lenses on the fogs. do you not think they look good though.
-
I think the fog lights on Corrados are some of the most good looking ones around. The bold square design and the way they are positioned well towards the centre of the car. They beef up the already muscular front end and make it look the mutts nuts! :D only problem being living in central london, other drivers dont tend to appreciate it. the police in london dont seem to care though! i drive round with them on all the time, but as soon as i go into the country, its like theyve never seen them before and are on me like flies to sh*t! Am i being a t*sser for driving around with my fogs on? or does everyone else do it too?

I guess the VGI is the way to go then. is it true the bonnet needs to be cut away? Where can i get one fitted and how much shouldl i pay? thanks for all your replies BTW
-
thanks for the reply. I see you went for the VGI version. Do you find its worth the hassle of stripping it down once a year for the extra power return. Also, i thought the plugs only needed replacing every 40k or so. If you dont mind me asking, how much did you pay for yours and did you get it installed or was it DIY
-
Hello all! Sorry if these are a completely dumb couple of questions, but i'm being brave and asking anyway! Firstly how do you use the plastic tool to remove the HT leads from the plugs? do they just pull off or do you need to twist them? its just the metal ends look a little delicate and i dont want to bust anything. Also, an even dumber question. whats the difference between a VSR and VGI? which ones better? and how much should i be looking at to get one fitted? any help would be appreciated. many thanks

thanks for the responses guys. :D took it on a long run today and seemed a lot better when i got back. I live in central london andI do mostly town driving. i think she enjoys getting a damn good thrashing when i take her to the countryside, I certainly do anyway! I havent noticed any excessive oil consumption and the coolant is absolutely fine and actually, this is making me even more worried. valves sound expensive and bores even more so! Vince at Stealth mentioned 2700 + vat for a full rebuild, but ive got to make the painstaking decision whether or not to keep her. put the money in to keep her going as she should or cut my losses and get something else. she's costing me an arm and a tit!!! Also, i'm not too sure what pinking sounds like. ive never heard it before, i dont think. once again thanks to those who responded.

Good evening all! Had a 'rado for year and half now, and have to say, been reading this website for a while now. Love it and extremely useful! However, I'm hoping someone can help me. Had some very erratic running recently, the car was idling badly, losing power and 'coughing' through the rev range. changed the coil pack, Leads, plugs and the front engine speed sensor (It was the one just above the sump at the front, I think thats what it is). Afterwards it felt back up to 95% of how it was running. However, there is still a slight misfire. although it doesn't jerk the car, you can feel it throught the steering wheel and seems to lose power periodically. :x VAG 1551 came up 'knock sensor open/short circuit' and 'engine speed sensor - no signal'. I think we unplugged the knock sensor connector tabs and cleaned them up, which seemed to help a bit. but anyone know where the knock sensor is? but i'm such a perfectionist i cant help but notice the slight loss in power and very slight misfire. even at idle, you can feel it through the steering wheel. Cylinder 2 and 4 have 0.6 and 0.7 bar of pressure and the other four are at 1.2bar. could the loss in compression be causing this? is it time for a rebuild? 94K on the clock. :?: any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Many thanks in advance
