    8 Valver Induction

Hmmmmm drilled air box……..K&N…….I like that………..I like that a lot. Is it going to drastically reduce my MPG, I guess the more holes are drilled the more readily it can suck air, which in turn will mean more fuel is shoved in as well - is this right….I guess the more it reduces my MPG the faster I will be going !! Also, would holes in the air box mean that it might reduce the expected life span of my engine. By being able to suck in air where it should not, i.e a tightly sealed air box with one inlet as opposed to one that is riddled with holes might not allow for the same level of filtration, I don’t want to suck up a rabbit from the side of the road and it bend my donky rench. Any advice guys before I savage my engine with a hole saw and knacker it – if I can suss this out before the weekend I know what I will be doing first thing Saturday morning !!!
  3. Right, was about to service my little 8 valver this weekend and whilst out working on which parts I ought to look at I noticed that the air filter needs to be replaced. This lead me onto the question of should I upgrade the standard filter. K&N don’t seem to do a 57i induction kit for an 8 valver, but they do a replacement panel filter that will fit into my current air box. In fact its this one…… http://www.knfilterchargers.com/search/ ... od=33-2029 This seems to coat about £40ish quid from most places but is it worth doing ? Will I notice the difference? I had a 57i kit on my BMW 320i a few years back and it made a massive difference, it responded better, sounded mad and generally added something to driving although I can’t put my finger on what. As K&N don’t do a full induction kit, is it worth me looking at another manufacturer? In fact, does any one know if there is an induction kit for a 8 valve C out there anywhere? Any help would be good… Ryan

    Temp????

I’m just chuffed to find someone else with an 8valver. I was getting very lonely on this site. Your K&N – I’m looking at fitting one soon, did you just go for the replacement panel filter of a full 57i induction kit ? I have not looked into the possibilities of a 57i, but was thinking about just the filter element that fits into my existing box. i.e. this one …… http://www.knfilterchargers.com/search/ ... od=33-2029 Any feedback from yours would be good, did it improve noticeably the pickup and acceleration ?? Cheers my kindred 8 valving spirit. Ryan

    Boot lock seized.

Hmm this is interesting..... This sounds really stupid but I didn’t realise that the boot formed part of the central locking on the C. I don’t have remote – only the key in the lock jobbie. My boot opens with the key but only if you use the lock on the boot itself, none of the doors have an affect, and the lock on the boot has no affect on the doors. Also, the boot locks as soon as it is shut, so its possible to lock your keys in it !!! :shocked!: Go on – tell me – is this wrong - It’s a M-plate 8valver. Sorry to steal your thread quikstu – it wont happen again ! :thumb right:
  6. I would loved to have made my B-reg metro look like that but hands of my C !
  7. The problem seems to have been cured by randomly spraying WD40 up under where the clutch pedal disappears into the dash mouldings coupled with repeatedly pumping the pedal till I was blue in the face and could swear or cry no more. When I woke up the problem was fixed. :gag: Not really all that technical but it worked…...

    Dangerous

Brilliant - I have always wanted an MBE – Sounds like you need to get that sorted.
  9. Yep it’s a Corrado, a totally standard silver 8 valver with 52k on the clock. Believe it or not, I took some of the dash trim out last weekend to sort out my sticking throttle pedal, so this is the most likely culprit I guess. Although I am sure it went back together properly I think I better check it ! I might go and have a look in a minute…..if I can just sneak off with out the boss noticing! How could I tell if it’s the master cylinder by just lifting the bonnet???
  10. I was driving into work this morning. In traffic, you know how it is on a Monday. Went to change gear, out of first into second lifted my foot of the clutch and the pedal came up maybe 2/3rds of the way then stuck for a second before it sprung up the rest of the way making a flicking noise - The sort of noise you used to make when you first learn to drive. It now seems to stick almost every time I change gear. :( I have not had a chance to have a look as I was running late again and its going to be dark by the net time I see her perched in the car park. Has anyone got any ideas what this might be? My thoughts are a sticking clutch cable or possibly a lack of hydraulic pressure……any ideas ? Cheers guys Ryan
  11. Got mine at 50k in August. Almost done 52 now - I better slow down !!!!!
  12. I’m 25 and getting older by the day. Cars I have owned are as follows : Aged 17, a Bright yellow Metro. 1ltr totally standard with a rust hole so big you could see the engine through the driver’s side wing. But at least I was driving. I had a te-shirt made that said “you only have to look at it – I have to drive it” with a big photo of my pride and joy. 8) Aged 19, Dull Green Volvo 430GLE Saloon – 1.7ltr fitted with Cherry Bomb exhaust, which was custom fitted by the way - there isn’t on for the 340 oddly enough!!! Aged 20, Gun Metal Grey BMW 320i. Stainless Exhaust, TSW Alloys and K&N 57i induction kit. Looked and drove like a dream – wish I never sold her but she was getting on a bit and her reliability couldn’t be relied upon! I managed to get through 3 Air Flow Meters in the time I owned her, which was weird. Aged 23, Metallic Blue Vauxhall Vectra, 1.6 Special Edition. My attempt at growing up, it failed and the faze lasted about a year. Aged 24, Metallic Green Mitsubishi Gallant 2.5 V624. Totally standard, was seriously fast. Don’t ever underestimate this car at the lights. It’s normally driven by pensioners but will whip your ass if they lend it to their grandson. 8) Aged 25, Silver VW Corrado 2ltr 8 Valve. Best car to date, cheep to ensure, cheep to run, fun to drive, turns heads and corners like its on rails. Might not be as fast as its sisters but suits my needs perfectly…...come on I managed to justify it to the missus when she said I have to have a practical car and made me sell my Mitsi……
  13. Mines a sliver one as well - really rare a silver 20ltr 8 valver - must be worth a mint !!!!
  14. Saw a white G60, today on road just past crumbles centre in Eastbourne at about 9am this morning. I guess it could have been a little later as I was running a bit late of work which is also my excuse for pulling out in front of you and hammering it down the road. I did wave but you didn’t care ! Is it any of you ?
  15. Dark Blue H-Reg G60 in Asda car park in Eastbourne at about 2.30 this afternoon, lady driver - Any of you lot ? Can’t believe no one has spotted me yet – keep your eyes peeled!
  16. Never seen many C’s round here (Eastbourne) but I saw Nugget yellow right outside my front window at about 4:30pm on B/H Monday, not sure which model you were I was too stunned to notice – clean car though ! 8) Also saw a black 16v in Hailsham, also on Monday. Drove past you twice by BP garage! :D Other than that I was beginning to think I had the only one south of the M25!
  17. Do these things really work ???? Anyone ever tried one ? http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll? ... eName=WD4V An increase of 15hp - i'm not convinced are you
  18. My Corrado has a personal plate which I can’t stand. It was on there when I brought her and as well as not being my initials, Corrado related, funny or even rude it draws attention to itself and I think looks awful. People either say to me “did you nick that car of a guy called *****? or “have you changed your name to ***** yet?. I have even heard complete strangers say “ooh look at ****** trying to park that Corrado and reverse right into that bollard…..” it’s really beginning to get my back up. I agree that G60 VW would look pretty cool and so would A1 VR6 but mine isn’t that nice…… On the bright side, it is the first number plate I have ever been able to remember!!! Has anyone else got or had a problem as serious as this with their Corrado? If so what did you do ?? And Deed Poll is not an option!!!!!!

    Rim Size

So I could fit 17’s on my standard C with no mods to the arches ?????…..tempting.
  20. Looks like an 8 valver could be the way forward guys….. the puter thing says 30mpg if I push it and around 35mpg just driving normally - That is when its warmed up. First thing in the morning or when I first start her up more likely she is around the around about the 25 mark. I don’t know how accurate this is though so might check it and find out.
  21. Thanks for the welcome guys, and thanks for the info past and present. Been reading some of the older stuff, looks like it might solve or answer all of my problems to be… As for the slow comments, my little 8 valver suits me down to the ground - 30mpg with cheep insurance and Corrado looks and handling – I got a cheque for nearly £300 back from my insurance company – nice. 8) Hello to Ireland as well, I’m sure that there must be a closer on but so far you are the only one I know of – your not silver as well are you ?? :thumbleft:
  22. Just brought my first ever Corrado, in fact my first ever VW. She’s a M Reg 2ltr 8V in seriously good condition with only 50k on the clock. I think she is standard but as she is fitted with a stainless exhaust with no markings on it I can’t tell. Does anyone know what exhaust would have been factory fitted to her ? Also, I have been looking round and cant find another 8valver anywhere – none for sale, no reports, nothing. The CCGB website reckon that sales on this model were pretty dismal but this cant be the only 1 can it ???!!! After driving her round for a few weeks the Corrado is the best handling car I have driven and I might be hit by the VR6 bug sooner than my fiancée will allow……
