  1. Don't forget to disconnect the blue temp sender on the front of your engine before you start trying to do the timing. This will stop the ecu from trying to correct any incorrect timing. Just done mine today - goes like a missile now.
  2. Failing that, anywhere in Yorkshire would do.................

    Found a cheap G60

Whichever one you go for, get yer supercharger rebuilt as a matter of great urgency. Cost anywhere between £500 - £900 depending on how fast you want to go. Jabbasport R1 & induction kit on mine
  4. I'm looking for a decent VW specialist near Leeds. Any suggestions ??
  5. So, let us assume the VW cluster contains a OTP EPROM - how can Steve reprogram his mileage back in (I assume you'd like to.. though personally I'd lose a couple of thou..) :?: Site doesn't mention that this type of chip also has a lifespan i.e. can only be re-programmed so many times before it becomes unprogrammable. Not sure of the exact amount of times - a few thousand from memory (my mate's memory - that is). Although the lifespan thing isn't the problem because it's all working as it should. Just with less mileage.
  6. Thank you all for your words of wisdom - gonna get an old instrument cluster from a scrappys and play around with it. I have a "friend" who has a few years experience of re-programming and adjusting software storred in these type of chips, building programmers etc. Won't be illegal because all I want to do is put the correct mileage back in. I'll re-post when he's done it - please don't ask how
  7. They were the original supplying dealer for my Scirocco 1.8i Scala

    Found a cheap G60

Sounds very cheap - have you driven it yet ?? Is the mileage genuine (check mot's & for wear on drivers seat backrest) ?? Any oil leaks or nasty noises from engine ?? A lot of early Corrado's had their speedo's changed under warranty - has the car got a service book ?? Machine polishing should bring your paint back to life - red cars always turn pink with age.
  9. E lectronically E rasable P rogrammable R ead O nly M emory Think you maybe right Ross. When I disconnected the battery, I removed the positive terminal before the negative - ouch!! If y'all want low mileage Corrados - now you know what to do !!
  10. Anybody want to buy a VERY low mileage G60..............LOL
  11. Main battery was disconnected for around 1 hour, while I was connecting my new sound installation. When I bought the car, it had been garaged every winter for the last 5 years with the battery disconnected for 4 months at a time. Still held it's mileage though !! Mileage must be held in some kind of eeprom chip - otherwise the cars would be too easy to clock. On a Mercedes you can take the control unit off the car, leave it in a drawer for a year and it will still remember it's mileage !!!
  12. I can fully recommend Jabbasport for your supercharger - they did a R1 conversion on mine a few weeks ago. Took a while to run it in, I've done around 2k since and it's still loosening up. 8) However, while my car was there they "serviced" it & fitted a new timing belt. When I got the car back, both upper & lower timing belt covers were knackered. They fitted a cat back exhaust system and did not seal it onto the cat so now it blows like hell. The timing belt that they fitted was far too tight - and I mean FAR too tight. Power steering belt was also way too tight.
  13. Must have been a couple of weeks ago that I had this problem - speedo now reads just over 900 miles. I used to work for Mercedes and on their cars the mileage is storred in a eeprom chip inside one of the engine control units. I suspect that VW will use a similar system. Eeprom chips do not need any power to retain their memory - so disconnecting the battery should not have caused any problems.
  14. Remove the air filter assy. In the absence of any special tools, I use a flat screwdriver to lever the tensioner arm upwards sufficiently to enable me to remove the belt from the alternator (top) pulley.
  15. Anybody know which oil company makes the Quantum oil that VW use here in the UK :?:
  16. Disconected the battery on my G60 last week. Now I have reconnected it, the mileage has zeroed itself. Reading was approx 81000 now it reads 0. Any ideas ??
  17. The Lupo GTI wiper mod works best when 2 drivers side arms are fitted with 1 drivers wiper blade and 1 passengers wiper blade. I have this mod on my G60 - what a transformation. 8)
