I am still waiting on the insurance company to say whether they will let me buy the car back. Its killing me having it sitting in the garage while I wait. j16jrf: Not sure if the insurance peopel will let me keep the car. I am waiting on their reply to my letter at the moment.

Got the first offer..........£1750. Obviously not going to accept this so writing back and sending some current ads and a photcopy of some of the bigger bills. So begins the LONG process of getting decent money for the car :(

Yeah I thought they had to offer it back or something but I was told they dont. The company is Brentacre, or rather Claimtek who deal with their claims

So if i go and take parts off the car now it wont make any difference to the settlement. No one from the insurance company has seen the car yet. I can see this dragging on for months. If I had known that I wasnt allowed to buy the car back under brentacre insureance I would not have gone with them. I wont renew my insurance through them again.

Buying it back is what I want to do but my insurance company is now telling me that I cant buy it back as its not company policy!! I fear I may be getting screwed again :(

No, I only found out last night that they would write it off. Got a call this afternoon saying they were in the area and they would come and get the car. I havent even got the first letter yet from them. I told them I wouldnt give them the car yet. I am not going to give up just yet. I am very upset if they wont let me buy the car back. I was more than happy with brentacre, now I find that the company they hire to look after claims does this I wont be going back. And I wont be recommending them to anyone either. As its my car can i take stuff out before I accept their offer? (like the interior?). Then they can come and collect whats left??

Hi I just spoke to my insurance company (Brentacre) who told me I need to speak to Claimtek who deal with my claim. The car was a CAT D write off and I wanted to buy the car back. But I have been told by Claimtek that they dont allow customers to buy their cars back!! Where do i stand on this legally. Do they have to offer me the chance to buy the car back? I am a bit pee'd as the guy just sounded like he didnt care.

Hi everyone Are bonnet hinges the same whether you have an early or late bonnet? Can I use early hinges on a later bonnet? Thanks

Yes that was my first thought, but I spent months at the beginging of the year fixing the car and i dont have the time or energy anymore. I was going to sell it anyway cause I have got into biking and I needed the money for a bike+gear etc.

Well I am in shock. Just found out my insurance company is going to write off my VR6. I ran into the back of someone after what can only be described as a terrible day. I had just missed the flight to my honeymoon and so would miss a day and had to pay extra for another flight. I had been stuck for hours in London and my wife was on the phone to our travel company changing transfer details and they were giving her grief. I was at a roundbaout next to my place and the women went for gap, i looked thought I could make it as well so accelerated, she then thought she couldnt make the gap and braked, I didnt. All the damage was a bonnet, slam panel, head light and grill. Such a shame but i think I will be breaking it, its got a few choice parts, heated leather interior etc. The engine has about 140000 on it but a full stealth rebuild 25k ago. Would that be worth anything? I am very sorry to the previous owners especially gradeafailure, I am totally gutted. I just want to go to the pub now. Very sorry that my stupid mistake has made this car that bit more rare. I only hope that parts from i can help my fellow corrado owners. One distraught owner :(

I am selling mine to get a bike! Dont get rid of the bike and the rado! Thats crazy talk man CRAZY TALK. An Elise aint as good as a bike, if you have to sell the rado and go on some track days. I would LOVE to keep the rado and get a bike, that was always the dream, but the dream isnt possible for me at the moment

FANJITA: If I was you I would decided what i really wanted and then go looking. What colours do you like, Do you want leather, do you def want lower mileage or would be happy with a car with higher mileage and a rebuild? That said they are great cars and be prepared to travel. A lot of people here are on there second or more corrados they are that addictive! Welcome to the forum

Its def a buyers market at the moment looking at prices. I wouldnt let milage worry to much or wait for one thats had a rebuild already. Be prepared to travel though.

Can he use his vax on it? (My dad just brought and thinking of taking a trip over to use it on my headlining!)

Hi My car has been giving out puffs of white smoke on overrun even when warm. I noticed when its cold it gives out some white smoke and on overrun at low revs below 2500 rpm it pops and bangs with a puff of while smoke. Am i to assume its overfueling? I replaced all the temp senders a few months ago. What do people think of the above. I found a post by the previous owner saying this: 'Mine's started to give a little puff of smoke on acceleration after overrun, but it's more white smoke than blue, and strangely enough it only does it after low-revs overrun (2500 and below) rather than high-revs overrun. It does noticeable pop and fart on low-revs overrun and not when at the higher revs, so are the two linked? Doesn't seem to be using ridiculous amounts of oil, and it doesn't smoke on startup either. Head was done at Stealth 2 years ago by the previous owner, so I can't believe the valve seals and guides are shot after that short length of time...' and kevhaywire came back saying this 'Gareth also had problems with the breather causing all 6 plugs to foul up with oil, so Stealth retro fitted a later PCV filter and ran the vacuum hose over to the brake servo outlet and that stopped the problem.' Am to presume if I reattach this breather all the problems should stop? I am stupid and i am unsure where the pipe needs to go (not sure were the brake servo outlet is). Can anyone help maybe with a picture as I am that thick. Thanks

Yes only one fan is powered the other is a 'slave' The belt is just wrapped round the fans I believe if thats what you mean.
