  1. From memory I thing the cambelt change is about £750 although that is probably main dealer. I think I remember seeing a company advertising the change for £500  I have always liked them though and they are very cheap although I suspect costly to run and I would definately choose sorted Vr6 over one.
  2. I have driven a mk3 and owned a mk2. The mk3 8v gti was one of the worst cars I have driven - torquey but other than that very disapointing and very floaty! My valver is nothing like it to drive in the slightest. Mk mk2 gti 8v was excellent, comfortable enought to live with on long distance and great to thrash. At first my rado felt a little slower but once I adjusted my driving style (driving at higher revs) it was at least as quick and had loads more grip. I would compare my c to my mk2 and rate them at about the same in terms of performance but the rado looks soooooooooooooooooo much better. The only reason I sold my mk2 was because the rado existed. Still miss it though :(
  3. Aqua has got to be one of the colours that most suits the rado I would stick with that I reckon there is something cool about having a 15year old car that looks brand new 8)
  4. Well that was a waste of time! The car was described as"the only thing that lets it down is the paint" "the interior is good nick". Wasn't expecting the world but the interior was rubbish and I don't think it was even recaro! Which was a problem as that was all I was after. Still, nothing ventured nothing gained and it would be a good buy for someone wanting a gti to run on the cheap for a year. Thats if you could put up with the hand painted exterior
  5. Cheers all. Gonna be looking at a golf tomorrow (not selling rado though) which has recaros so may be worth a punt depending on the condition of them/the car. Forgot all about the height of the seats etc.
  6. Afternoon After some help please........... Anyone know roughly how much a recaro interior from a mk2 golf would be worth? would it fit into a rado? were all recaro golf trims electric? and would a rado interior fit into a golf? Just after some guidance as to the viability of getting one so any help appreciated. Dig
  7. To be fair it has been foggy quite a lot recently in the beautiful city of Plymuff. Used to leave mine on more than I should until I learnt that it can crack the glass and then saw the cost of replacements

    Clutch Judder

I bought my rado about a year ago and tried to negotiate some money off due to some clutch judder. The owner wouldn't budge and I bugeted to fit a new one. 13.5k later and it is still holding
  9. Maybe thats the one I saw. It sounded like it had a dump valve so that would explain the 1.8t. Whatever one it was it looked well sorted 8) I like the idea of keeping mine original until I see one thats been done well.
  10. I own a helious blue rado in Plymouth. Think I have seen the/a maroon rado too as well as a very tastefully modded lovely looking/sounding red g60. Saw a black/dark blue rado driving along Mutley Plain the other day with fog lights on. Reckon the rado still has to be one of the rarest cars in Plymouth though! 8)
  11. I can sympathise :( I reversed into a huge rock yesterday. Had to turn around in an industial estate in Willand, much to my surprise found out the bastards in the end unit got fed up with people turning in the car park and put two boulders either side of the entrance! Of course not visable through the mirrors! Hope yours not too much.
  12. Hopefully this as been cured by the £1.10 part. Since fitting it (correctly  ) the buzzer has stopped going off. First proper run tomorrow as driving up to Exeter so hopefully I havn't spoken too soon. Ta to all for help
  13. Cheers to all definately food for thought. Reckon when the time comes will look for a trusted supplier of a decent recon engine.
  14. Amyone want one of these..................... http://www.fearthechilli.com/Keyring%20 ... orrado.JPG
  15. Looks awesome in profile view reckon the skirts/wheels highlight the size and shape of the rado. Really like the colour and paint too.
  16. Sounds interesting - would be great in a lupo. Wonder how relevant the petrol savings would be after a few miles when the charger and turbo need replacing though.
  17. I am 29 next week and mine was £470 this year with full protected NCB and I have just moved to a nice part of Plymouth (contradiction in terms??). They chucked on an "insurance premium" tax this year
  18. Hopefully this is still a long way off with 135k on the clock but recent oil pressure problems have prompted me to ask. Mainly out of interest but perhaps for the future..................... Has anyone gone down the new engine replacement route? I see that Volkspares and other companies do exhange engines for £2050 fitted (although for all that dosh it is only guaranteed for 12 months).
  19. Cheers Riley, Henny, just managed to get the ****** thing on and it clicked in nicely. The levels are correct which is probably bad news :( Will check the wiring and probably take it down to the garage tomorrow (After a succession of older gtis I am quite well known to them) to be safe but sounds like it could be time for some engine work in the near future.
  20. Ta Riley, will give it a push on lunch break. It seems to be very erratic with the beeping and has occured at over 2k rpm and when the engine is idling. But saying that nothing this morning or nothing during a brisk run over Dartmoor recently? Will take it to the local garage this week to get pressure test done and check the other stuff you mentioned. When had it on rolling road (Alan Jefferies tuning) the guy mentioned there may have been some oil on the plugs and that this may have been the rocker cover gasket but it also had been overfilled with oil so that could have explained that. I am hoping it is somthing as simple as the pressure escaping via the broken dipstick plug but suspect it is something rather more expensive! Just all part of the fun of owing an older car I guess
  21. Mine seems to be more beeeeeeeeeeeeeep, beep, beeeeeeeeeeeep, beep, beep, beep, beep sound  very annoying! Right! now removed the old bit of tubing from the dipstick it became apparent that I had fitted it upsidedown  as it is now obvious that the dipstick can only fit into one end. Problem is now that the other end doesn't seem to want to fit onto the sump pipe  is it just a case of using some brute force to get it on? There doesn't seem to be anything in the way and it all looks like it should fit.
  22. Cheers bix, Supercharged, will have another look tomorrow morning
  23. OK so bought dipstick holder and fitted it. Took a while but realised the two cuts in the bottom of the piece fit onto the top of the metal dipstick holder. Some of the plastic from the old one got stuck in the tube but managed to get them out with a key :brickwall: Pics below........ Can't check oil level as car on hill and camber but suspect it will need topping up given the difference in height. Does it look right?
  24. Cheers h100vw, will get one tomorrow although I think it is probably more to do with the oil pressure as I just topped the level up a bit and it still comes on. Using my very limited mechanical knowledge I am guessing it is one of the following: a) Cam cover gasket b) Head gasket c) oil pump I don't think I am losing oil so a) and c) seem most likely (I really hope it is not b!). Any suggestions/corrections or ideas how to check appreciated.
  25. Just took c out for a bit of a drive just now and the oil buzzer keeps beeping. Checked oil level and it seems ok but when I had car put on rolling road recently (142.2bhp :) ) the garage mentioned that dipstick casing/tube looked like it had snapped. Obviously if the casing is too short then that could mean that the oil level is too low but appears fine which could explain the beeping. Anyone got a pic of one to for reference or know where I can get another please? I have a 1990 valver. Any help appreciated.
