  1. so why it it that people have the shafts shortened or ones made up.

anybody know whats involved in changing the output flanges on the box.

    good thread

People have shafts shortened when using the 02M box, the box that saysomestuff has isnt an 02M so the g60 shafts should be the right length.

changing the output flanges is simple case of undoing the bolt in the middle of the flange and pulling them out.

  2. G60 shafts will not need shortening, the only thing that is different is the flange size. So you can either change the gearbox flanges to the smaller 100mm ones off a beetle or change the inner CV on the G60 driveshaft to the larger MK5 type.

Beetle uses an 02J box not an 02M. The 02M is only used on cars with >180BHP

  3. Cool I'll have a look. I was planning on going G60 for driveshafts/hubs - they'll go straight in won't they? Or is that why I'll need the 100mm output flange?

Also, Yan - i read on vortex that the GT'll do 60 in 6th @ 1800RPM if that's any indication, mind you it's a pretty torquey motor

Yes, you'll probably need the 100mm output flanges. Unless you get the driveshafts as well and put the mk5 inner CVs on your shafts. You cant use your old G60 box flanges as they are held in with circlips and the newer type boxes use a bolt through the middle.

  4. If you can, measure the output flange diameter, i'm guessing that they are 110mm the same as the late 02J boxes are. In which case you will need to swap them for the 100mm ones from a beetle. I've got the part number around somewhere for them i'll dig it out. Only other mod to fit is you need to remove a couple of brackets in the tunnel to fit the shift lever as its bigger and fits slightly different to the O2A lever. It has a much nicer feel to the 02A and not such a stupidly long throw either.

  5. Right so to clarify, if you want a six speed box that is a direct replacement for any corrado gearbox you need to source a gearbox with a code of GLB?

These are fitted to Audi A3s from 5/03 to 8/03 and Golfs from 5/04 to 5/04 BTW.

Anyone know what the cruise ratio is in 6th for these?

Think so, dont take it as gospel though!. Maybe saysomestuff can take some pics so we can see if the bracket mounts etc are in the right positions.

  6. Most of the 6spd transmissions around for 4 cyl engines are O2M code ones which are a bit of an arse to fit. You will need to make custom mounts and mod the subframe then get some custom driveshafts made. Not sure what engine you are planning but ifs it a 4 cyl and you really want a 6 spd then keep your eyes open for a 6spd 02J code from a mk5 golf as it will be a direct replacement for the 02A corrado box.

  7. The frost products are both slightly different to the VW stuff but would still probably do the job. The first one is self amalgamating tape with bonds with itself, its often used by plumbers to fix leaks. The second one is cloth tape but not adhesive like the VWP stuff is. They were the only place i could find that do it.

  8. Its pretty simple. The only wires you will need for the ECU are 12v, Gnd, Tacho and the fuel pump replay wire.

There are a few 12v wires, I use the black 12v that powers the coil. Also lots of grounds or just wire direct to battery. Green/yellow is tacho and yellow/blue is the fuel pump relay.

Not sure if the emerald will drive the temp gauge but if it will the wire you need is the yellow/green that went to the temp sender on the stat housing on the G60.

How are you using an AEB as its a longitudinal engine so will need lots of parts changing to fit the corrado?

Let me know if you want to know anything else as have done a couple of 20v corrados.

  9. I have a TVR Griffith 500 as a second car. The reliability thing is a bit of a myth with the Rover V8 powered cars. I haven't had a problem with mine at all. The only things that really go wrong are small niggley electrical problems that are easy to fix. Most parts are cheap and readily available. I wouldn't want it as an everyday car but as a weekend toy its fantastic. The build quality certainly isnt up to VW standards but if you have a corrado you will be used to rattles and bits falling off!. 14k will get you a nice chimaera 500, dont bother with anything less than the 5.0. Condition is everything with TVRs, most important thing to check is rust on the chassis especially on the outriggers which run along the sills.

  10. Which end has snapped off?. If its at the gearbox end the plastic end bits that join onto the shift tower are replaceable. If its at the lever end you will have to drop the exhaust and remove the heat shield and shift housing to replace the cable.
