  1. That is the lift pump in the fuel tank. Mine did the same. Changed lift pump at a cost of about £30 and all is quiet. Your garage should have changed that first. The noise is the main pump struggling to suck fuel up out of the petrol tank, hence the name for the other fuel pump(lift pump). After fitting you may have some air in lines, so car may be jerky for a while till it works its way out. Hope you get it sorted. c ya...
  2. I am afraid I am another one who had nothing but bad luck with CCGB. Did not receive one Sprinter, they lost my cheques, then stopped my membership, when it was one of their guys who had not banked the cheques. Still had them at his house for 3 months. Never got back to me. When I had a problem and asked for tech help, they were so late getting back to me that my membership was up by 2 days, so would not help until they received another cheque(would not have hurt to answer the question then say "hey your membership is up send a cheque") If they had got back to me within a month I would have still been a member. Sorry CCGB ever heard of customer relations!!!
  3. I did not refit the new filter VW gave me on the lift pump as there where no clips as per the old filter to secure the base of the new filter? So refitted old filter as that comes with two clips. Any idea why they changed the filter. thanks for your help, not sure if that would cause a restriction???
  4. I did have my timing done not long ago, do you think it could be this?
  5. Hi I have a 1989 1.8 16v. When excelerating hard the engine seems to pick up well to start with then after about 4000 rpm, when the 16v engine normal pulls like a train it then seems to struggle getting to the red line!!! Very Strange. Had new fuel pump and filter, new lift pump, new distributor, rotor arm, new magnecor leads, new spark plugs. All the bits that may not help this sympton, but still no better. Anyone got any other ideas. Cheers.
  6. Thanks for your comments so far. I did replace the fuel filter at the same time, that is the large one next to the pump??? I have read if the lift pump in the fuel tank goes it can cause the main pump to buzz as it is overworking??? Thought this may help you with the diagnosis. Thanks again for oyur help.
  7. Hi, I have only just made it home after my C (1.8 16v) jumping all over the place. I think the car is being starved of fuel. Fuel pump assembly under the rear of the car is buzzing like mad (although that was all replaced only 2000 miles ago). Is there a lift pump in the fuel tank and could that cause it??? Or could it be the fuel injection. Any one else had this problem??? Any help gratefully received as I want to take the pride and joy out for a drive.
  8. I have seen that saxo about. Do not know Simon though. Do you know Steve with the Black corrado vr6 with Golf mk 4 front end as I know him. He certainly has the most distinct C in town!!
  9. Hi Cheesy, Well the motor is looking good. Is the car back in the channel Islands or you going to be passing through Stamford at all??? Love to see it in the flesh. Do the lights work, unlike normal C lights LOL!!! Cheers

    Top Hatch Spoiler

I paid £80 for mine. Had it fitted correctly at a reputable body shop, even watched them do it. Glue that came with it was not strong enough and the bloody thing fell off whilst driving down the dual carriageway!!! Be careful fitting it as I have just thrown £80 in the bin. BUGGER!!!
  11. Hi. Roof strips just hook in at the front nearest the screen first, then are just stuch with double sided adhesive into the recess. Lastly a black plastic lug at the rear pushes onto an exposed thread. Job done! Easy peasy. Just do not do what I did first time and start at the back and work forwards. DOH!!
  12. Yes it is my C. A very good friend of mine who is the partner in Priory Autos, Stamford, Lincs, found the car for me then completely stripped and repainted it for me. Did a top job.
  13. Hi Everyone, sent in some pics of my lonely old 16v to Performance VW and they have put some pics in of it in readers rides. Unfortunately they said it was my wife that got me into it. We are not married yet but says as it is now in print I have to do it. DOH Look what the mag has done now LOL. Cheers
  14. Sounds like a dirty ISV, I think there are loads of threads on here about it. Idle stabilisation valve. hope this helps

    THE Wheel page

Just thought I would show you what my TSW Fly 17's look like on My C. It has been l;owered 35/40mm. Cheers
  16. I have to agree about the Trimsport one too. I have one and it fits perfectly. The Corrado power rohr are slightly oval shaped, where as the mark 2 are rounder. I think that is why the trimsport fit better.

    White Dials

You can get the white dial kits from Demon Tweeks in Wrexham, North Wales. They are made by Lockwood and slip over the originals with no need to remove the needles. A very easy DIY fitment. I think mine were about £25. I have a white C so the white dials look great!!!

    Lumpy to start up

Cheers Mike I will give that a go at the weekend
  19. Hi I have a 1989 1.8 16v which on the whole runs just fine. But very occasionally when starting up it runs on 2/3 cylinders for a minute, rev it hard and after 20 secs it runs fine. Does not do it very often, but would like to fix the problem. I have fitted a brand new distribitor and cap, new magnecor leads. Could it be the Ignition coil?? Thanks for any help.
  20. I got the Corrado cromed badge from the VW dealers, it was a later fit on Corrado's. Cannot help you on the other badge. Oh and get your car lowered first, get rid of that gap you will have when you fit your 17's, Enjoy
  21. Hi Tinsman I have already replied to your question in another part of this site, I had it painted at a body shop. And in answer to Jimmay the lights are between £220 and £260 depending on where you get them.

    paint question

My brother inlaw has a body shop and when we were painting mine he added a plasterciser to the paint. I believe you can only do this at a body shop as it is mixed with the paint, straight into the paint gun. As VR6 said you could rub it all down paint it as described. But if it all flakes off, OUCH! Why not prep it all then give it to a bodyshop to paint, take them 5 mins and should not cost much.

    paint question

Make sure you use plasterciser in the paint when you paint it. Like when you paint a body kit or your bumpers or it will eventually crack the paint. I have done mine it looks great. You will probably have to go to a body shop.
  24. Cheers Scott will give that a go
  25. Hi, I have a 1989, 1.8 16v. It runs fine, revving hard upto the red line. Then stop get back in and revs to red line, but gets there ever so slowly, feels like I am pulling a trailer with ten cars on. Stop for two minutes. Start it again and it pulls like a train again? Could this be dirty fuel or dirt in the petrol tank blocking a pipe? Any help much appreciated
