  1. Result - another MOT pass for the trustee C, v. happy!! :D Advisroy Items: Nearside rear rear wheel bearing has slight play offside rear rear wheel bearing has slight play offside front steering column shaft has slight end float - Can the offside front steering colums shaft be changed?? or does this mean I may need a new steering rack in the future?
  2. Thanks pal . will take a look now.
  3. Tried to start my C after a month of it not being driven and as expected, the Battery was completely flat. Jump started it then took it for a quick spin and wow what a performer...all you fellow C owners will totally agree that these motors never fail to put a smile on your face, when running well of course. Anyways, the hassle of locating Jump Leads then another vehicle to help start my car has made me want a Jumper Pack unit. There are so many on the market so I thought I
  4. Not many Jap car fans here then I guess... in all honesty, I'm not either but there is one Jap car I'd consider and it's not your everyday Subaru or EVO. If a 2 seater will do, then a Honda S2000 is the way to go. Probably more smiles per mile then any other car for the price. IMO - To replace the C, you need a Porsche
  5. Would love to have a go in this! http://cars.uk.msn.com/News/car_news_article.aspx?cp-documentid=4964580
  6. The only reason it's cheaper here is due to competition... The garage that's advertised the MOT for £25 opened up 2 months ago and it's a good way to induce customers. I paid £40 last year. Son of Beesting - Congrats to you too mate!
  7. Not in Birmingham, MOT costs vary from garage to garage....I paid £35, the cheapest I have seen is £25 but the station is 10 miles away from where I live. Most garages charge £40 - £50 round here.
  8. Scarlet - Thank you for the info, much appreciated. Think i'll get the pipes checked again, just to make sure that they are in need of replacement £200+ bill is something I can do without at the mo. I usually use the same MOT station but this year I decided to go elsewhere, test was slightly cheaper, lol.
  9. Talked to a few VW owners, according to them, it's quite common for break pipes to corrode... My mate owns a MK2 Golf and before he put his car in for testing, he sanded and painted the break pipes, then failed on having no horn lol.... Scarlet - interested to know how much it cost to get the pipes done on your Rado, will book mine in soon. Estimating 30 quid a pipe.
  10. Goldie - Good luck Therapor - Surely you're only joking vr6storm - you've got a Porsche, you can afford an MOT failure :) , only joking, hope your good luck continues... Still very happy, just a little concerned about the advisories
  11. Can’t believe 12 Months have gone by so quick, Corrado’s MOT due date was drawing close so I thought I’d get it done sooner rather then later. Pass Pass Pass Pass!!! :D However, not all good news, the tester also handed over an advisory sheet: Nearly all the break pipes were in a deteriorated state but not enough to fail Offside gaiter starting to deteriorate Headlights were in need of alignment but were not more then 50% off the norm. Not bad at all considering the car has covered 158K and for 4 years running, has not failed an MOT. Smiling all the way home, thought i'd share my happy news.
  12. All good then, unless anyone else is aware of any problems that I may run into? Cheers for the help guys.
  13. Thank you coolrado - is there any need for me to upgrade the battery? As long as the Alt does have a reg built in,should be okay I hope, don't want the batt to explode.
  14. Anyone??? Have tried the Seat Forum, usually respond within 2 weeks....
  15. Morning Chaps In need of some advice. READ FOR BACKGROUND INFO BUT NOT NECCESARY TO ANSWER QUESTION. As a second car, I have a MK3 Seat Ibiza 1.9 TDI (90bhp model) Coming home from work last week, the alternator pulley decided to fall off. Apparently a common fault on this type of Bosch Alt. Was happy to pay £150 or so for the new Alt (NOT) but added to this was a surcharge of £80.00, waived if I gave back my old one in exchange. Only problem, they wouldn’t accept my old one cause the pulley was bust (ofcourse it’s broke, that’s why I’m replacing it, MOFO’s) Taking into consideration that they’d take 2+ days to get the part in and I didn’t want to pay the surcharge, I decided to try elsewhere. Eurocarparts, GSF, listed the wrong part for my car and couldn’t match the part number, useless. Plan B, I thought I’d get it reconditioned instead but the shop couldn’t get the old bolts off to replace the pulley, told me that they tried everything, heating it up and allsorts but no way was the spline screw coming off.. Instead of accepting their advice, I bought my own spline tool in an attempt to take the screw out. Broke the tool but the b*stard screw didn’t turn one bit! (£50 for a new pulley ) At this stage I was well p*ssed off - Luckily, a friend with contacts managed to source a second hand alternator off another VW TDI that had the same fitments. Bargain at £40 but the ampage is double that of my old one. MY QUESTIONS The standard Alternator is 70 Amp, the one my mate sourced is 140 Amp. I should have taken advice beforehand but I wanted my car back on the road immediately so have fitted it in. Well proud of myself for doing the job without the need for any assistance. Guess I’m a bit more qualified now…lol Anyway, my concern now is that with the more powerful alternator, is there a risk of burning the electrics? Don’t want the loom to catch fire or the battery to explode. Do these cars have a regulator on them? I am aware that people upgrade the alternator for various reasons but doubling the ampage, am I at risk of a hefty bill? The headlights do seem a little brighter then usual. Drove the car to work this morning (30 mile motorway run) seems to be okay. Am I safe?
  16. Superb mate, very very nice indeed.
  17. Will keep u updated - taking it all apart on the weeked. In the meantime, if anyone has anymore suggestion, please share... Cheers
  18. Matt - how much for the motor new? I'm hoping that when I take it all apart, I’ll find a nut loose in the mechanism or something minor, the motor isn't making funny noises and seems to be working fine... confusing. Worst case, new motor and new mech at a cost of ??
  19. Guess it's the motor then, will try and locate one from somewhere. Hope I get one soon otherwise I'll coat my screen with that rainX stuff and drive anyway...
  20. Already checked that mate, I took the arms off completely the put them back on. I've done a search and have had no luck in finding a guide that shows how to remove complete mechanism? If I took everything out, maybe able to work out the problem... So wanted to drive my C, rain stopped play....annoying!!! Come on guys, any other suggestions?
  21. Not guaranteed to win the auction Goldie so it'd be good to know for sure. Secondly, would a Mk3 Golf motor also fit....the MK2 will fit according to searches on here but they are in silver and look a little tatty compared to the black standard ones on the C.
  22. Thanks you all for your help - Much appreciated There's one on eBay, few hours to go. Not sure if it's what i need. Wipers stopped working the weekend, motor's still coming on for sure just not sure if it's lacking power or it may well be a linkage problem. If I pull back both wiper arms so that wipers are off the screen, they work fine, put them back, they struggle and stop. Took both wiper arms off, just to study the movement in the mechanism and everything seems to work fine but with the wipers on and against the screen, they just don’t work. Is this a linkage or motor problem?
  23. Will a Front Wiper Motor + Linkage from a 2.0 16v Corrado fit a VR6? Can anyone confirm this for sure? Thanks in advance for your help.
