OK cool. Glasgow hey....... I will keep an eye. For the right car, it's worth travelling. -
Having not owned a Corrado for a couple of years now I'm starting to get serious withdrawl symptoms....My mk2 golf keeps me from going mental, (as my daily shitter is an Escort van!) but I really need to get back to Corrado ownership. It's probably the only car in the world, that if one passes the other way on the road, I let out a little squeal of excitement! Anyway.... I previously had two KR valvers, and got to know all about them, through one problem or another, had the use for quite a while of a G60, and got to know a little about those, but I know nothing about VR6's at all. I've really got my heart on a VR, (hopefully a Blackberry one, I love that colour!) and will probably spend enough to get a totally solid example, as I will want to keep it for as long as I can. Obviously the bodywork speaks for itself, as does all the usual checks that apply to any car really, but I'm clueless when it comes to the VR engines. Can someone give me some pointers on what to check, engine-wise, on a VR. All I really understand is that the chains need to be done on the high-milers, but not much else. I have no problem buying a high miler, as long as the right things have been done at the right time. What else should have been done on a higher mileage car, or any VR for that matter? And whats the difference between OBD1 and 2? Cheers.

ahhhh the sweet smell of ignorance  (thats to the actual poster btw) :) i know, my mate is another one of these jap-crap loving blokes whose ideal car is a subaru or a skyline. no idea why he posted that!

SORRY! I never wrote that! i left my computer on this page and my mate must have posted that message--- ignore that statement!!!

vr6 is def gonna lose! What planet r u on?
-
you know what i mean. i like wheels with fat spokes on corrado's. don't like skinny 5-spokes etc, don't think they suit the lines of the car
-
i like them! unique, and chubby. i like chubby wheels on a rado

this mite seem weird..... but i've undone these screws on a number of cars and not had any problems.... then one day i had to undo it on the drivers door of my mates k-plate g60. the effin thing would not move. i tried for ages, bent a couple of screwdrivers and everything, then, i realised i had to screw it the other way! for some reason i had to screw it clockwise, as if doing it up, and it undid itself. why i don't know! the passenger one was totally normal. Try that! if not fully lubricate it with wd40 and try mole grips on it.

UPDATE Thanks: newcomer: Revs just drop when started

your isv could be knackered, they don't usually respond well to cleaning although it can help. revs bouncing around at 500 to 1000 rpm.... are you sure it's set up right? could be running lean? try removing and cleaning the throttle body with carb cleaner and see how you get on then -
Sorry dude have to agree, it's gonna be hard for you to get that power down.

make sure all the vacuum hoses are connected and not spilt as flusted said. there are a couple of little shit hoses that run from the airbox to the underneath side of the air intake just before the throttle body, they always came loose on my old valver, so check them. the vacuum hose that runs from the bottom of the airbox across to the isv can get ripped on the alternator belt, as has happened to me before, so turn it over and look at the back and make sure it's ok. otherwise it's possible it's the isv. buy new, as they do go wrong, but from gsf, as they're miles cheaper. -
cheers dude! thought it would be simple, but i've learnt it's better to find out what i need to do before i touch anything, otherwise it's a trip to the scrapyard to pick up replacements for the parts i broke

wanted some advice on whether you can adjust the sweep at all on a single wiper kit? my missus has just bought a mk2 gti and it came with a single wiper, which is fine, but the wiper at rest sits right in the middle of the screen, which mite be ok for some but neither of us are that keen! what we'd ideally like is for it to sit at a 30 degree-ish angle on the passenger side. initially i just tried unbolting the wiper arm and re-bolting it at the required angle, but of course the wiper still thinks it has a 50/50 sweep, so when i tested it, it cleared half of the drivers screen and then cleared all the passenger side and half of the scuttle panel and bonnet as well! is there any way of adjusting it so it has a 70/30 sweep or similar? so i can have the arm rested nicely over the other side but still see when it rains? the make of the kit is unknown i'm afraid, but i'd like to get advice before i attempt anything or i know i'll break something cheers!

i was intending to get a cheap big bumper 8v to use as a run around while i pain stakingly save up for a corrado VR, but as this came knocking i thought it would be too good to miss.

hi there, just sold my corrado a while back. needed the money! so now i've got my feet back on the ground i was 'in the process' of looking for a mk2 to use as a run-around, when this little beauty caught my eye.... it's a 1988 campaign-edition mk2 Gti 16v in oak green. absolutely standard, and by that i mean the only thing thats been changed is the stereo. it is in fantastic condition, no visible marks, scratches, dings, just a small scab of rust on the windscreen which i might get dealt with a.s.a.p. the owner has kept it garaged since he's had it, and only put 5k miles on it in 6 years. it's covered 125k in total. now i did't quite have the money, as i was looking to buy a golf in a couple of months time, and i was originally after a big-bumper 8v, but i really couldn't afford to let it slip past, so i put a deposit down and have now been scrambling like mad to get the cash! so obviously i'd like your opinion on whether you think this sounds like a 'good deal' , but also i'd like to find out what you guys know about the campaign edition. as far as i can tell, spec-wise, it seems to come with polished estorils, and a red stripe along the bumpers and the side strips. it has green tinted glass, but i'm not sure if this was common on gti's of this age or whether this is unique to the campaign. do any of you guys know any more? also i'd like to find out what the vw public think of modifications, as far as this car goes. i'm not usually able to drive a 'standard' car, and it's only a matter of time before i start changing things, but because this car is so standard and in such good condition i am very tempted not to change anything! however i have been flirting with the idea of fitting 90 spec big bumpers etc, as i love oak green mk2's with big bumpers, think they look amazing, and as i was looking for a 90 spec one to begin with, it's been on my mind. i would have the kit professionally sprayed and fitted, would use a genuine big bumper kit from a breaking mk2, and would keep the original bumpers to throw back on at any time. apart from that i was thinking about crystal (maybe smoked crystal) headlights and spotlights, and although i've been down the whole 16v tuning road before and not got that good results with anything i've done, i was contemplating, several months (maybe a year) down the road when i've got the cash, getting a polished and ported head from a reputable company. i've never had a polished/ ported head on anything before, but always considered it to be probably the best thing you can do to a 16v. so there you go. i would keep all the standard parts to change back (except the head as they are usually exchange jobbies), but just want to know what you guys think, as you (mostly!) give very good advice. cheers

mine did similar with a dodgy lift pump in the fuel tank.... idled and just coasted fine when not under load but as soon as you tried to get any kind of throttle from the engine it died just like it was running out of fuel. started it in the garage after changing the 'suspect' fuel filter but it took a good 5 mins of idling and then 1 min of driving before it rolled over and collapsed. just a thought, in-tank fuel pump for a valver is pretty cheap

i've never driven a corrado VR6 so can't comment on how much better they are to drive than calibra's, celica's etc...(even though i know it's miles) what initially attracted me to corrado's, and obviously still does, is that they still look so fresh... mines a 1990 G plater, and put that into context with other cars it's age, in fact even much newer cars, and it looks much, much fresher and more head turning than any cars i can think of. i love the look of the alfa romeo SZ, but even that looks a good decade (if not more) behind a corrado totally timeless design, i'm just wondering when it will start to look dated! hopefully never!! -
sorry guys i've looked for the sensor on the front left of the head, and can't see it anywhere..... front left, near the airbox, right??? can't see one!!!! arrgh!

they love their clio's now don't they! would've thought the alfa 147 GTA would be there if it was THE best front wheel drive's of all time. i've always wondered what an integra was like to drive, but i must admit i'm dissapointed that the torque of the Corrado didn't win over the VTEC rev-lover -

this sounds awesome, am looking forward to seeing this. surely the vr should more than hold it's own against that crowd? as long as it doesn't lose to the calibra!! do you think evo would notice if there was a shiny new super charger sat next to the engine? -
great cheers!

Just after some quick advice..... for some reason the fan on my 16v seems to be coming on when the car hasn't even warmed up. it doesn't cut in when i'm driving, and only now and again when on tickover in traffic, but it seems to come on after i drive the car and switch the engine off. the annoying thing is, i don't even have to drive it very far! if i literally take it to the shop and back, a 3 minute drive, as soon as i switch the engine off the fan comes on!! and it stays on for ages! is this normal? cos i had a previous 16v which i'm sure never did this. i'm pretty sure it's not overheating, temp seems to sit around 90deg when on a run and the fan hardly ever comes on when the engine is running. i changed the coolant recently and used about 1 third coolant to 2 thirds water but its still happening. any ideas? i'm selling the car so obviously i would like to get this sorted beforehand. saw that another guy had this exact problem when i used the search but unfortunately no-one replied to it
