  1. just taken my car for a rolling road session, straight away the tuner told me it was sounding flat, hey presto, it was only putting out 130bhp at the flywheel. i've fitted new merc injectors, a 50mm inlet manifold which i've ported, drilled airbox with k&n, milltek 4-branch and system, and we took the head off and gasket matched and smoothed the inlet and exhaust ports. the tuner knew straight away it wasn't running right and agrees that it should be alot more powerful, it's down 6bhp on standard for christssake! all the fuelling is set correctly,it's putting out awesome emissions, with low hydrocarbons which i was told means the valves are in good nick and seated nicely.the timing has been checked with the rocker cover off, there's a good spark pattern and i've had the ecu tested and it's all good. i really don't know where else to go now. i'm gonna check the compression, cos it has done 140k miles, but if that's ok then i don't know what to do. any advice grateful.
  2. ok good, but please make sure you have the fuelling set properly by a garage with the proper equipment! they should hook it up to a computer via an exhaust probe and adjust it on the metering head. glad you had the timing set properly! that should have been done straight away! don't bother taking it to kwikfit or anything for godssake, just a respectable garage! i recently swapped my standard exhaust system for a milltek 4-branch manifold and full system, and ever since then the revs have been slow to drop, i noticed it straight away, so thats why i asked. must be down to a reduction in back pressure or summin. if it's not changed before the exhaust or after on yours then i dunno!
  3. if it's an uprated head, i.e ported and polished, you will be getting much more air into the combustion chamber, therefore the fuelling needs to be increased. very simply done, just adjusted on the metering head with an allan key. any competent garage should be able to hook it up to a computer and adjust it accurately. if they're worth their weight they should automatically adjust the tickover as well. if it is running lean, which it sounds like it is, it will be running lumpy as f*ck with a rough idle and very poor response. as for the revs taking ages to die, does your car have an uprated exhaust? hope this helps, even if i am stating the obvious
  4. just wanted some advice on how easy it is to remove the side rubbing strips. i know this is quite a common mod but wasn't sure if they were glued on or used clips etc. are they relatively easy to remove or is it a load of hassle, bearing in mind the paintwork as well. cheers
  5. nothing especially, not to require extra fuelling anyway. but my point was if i was gonna shell out for new injectors i mite as well make sure i can't get uprated ones for the same price first. didn't know if uprated ones would give me better response etc
  6. hey, i'm the guy who wants more from his 1.8 16v. i'm pretty sure my injectors have had it. does anyone know where or even if i can get uprated injectors for the k-jet system? and is it worth while? just wondering before i spend £140ish on new standard ones from lucas
  7. yeah i understand what ur sayin about trading in for a g60, but my friend has a '92 g60 (standard apart from induction kit and cat-back stainless) which i've borrowed more than a few times and although i'm impressed with how much more power it has at low revs,i get annoyed that i really couldn't ring the power out and properly open it up. it just did't like it. plus, on a stretch of uphill road where i live, i can normally get about 85mph out of mine. in his, i got about 87mph. i know a g60 has much more tuning potential, but to be honest, if i could get standard g60 power i.e 160bhp out of my valver i'd be happy
  8. recently bought a '91 'rado 1.8 16v, and like everybody else who drives, i would like more power. so far, i've fitted a 50mm inlet manifold, and drilled the crap out of the airbox and given it a direct cold air feed which works well with the k&n panel filter. however, i'm gonna have some cash to spend soon, approx £800, and am considering what would be the best way to spend this, keeping in mind i'd like to buy something which makes a big difference to performance. so far, i've thought about either fitting a 2.0 bottom end(sourced from a breakers) a milltek 4-branch and full system, or fast road camshafts. there must be loads of you out there who have modded these engines, and even fitted these upgrades, so please advise me on how best to spend my bucks! if you've fitted a milltek and didn't gain bugger all please tell me before i waste my cash! i've also thought about a ported and gas flowed head, but for some reason i'm not keen on that. remember i can only afford to do one major mod, as i said £800 is about all i can afford. cheers
