Ahhh bugger I've noticed that one of the plastic clips that holds the Biden cable in broken :(

I know I definatley need the cog in the lower right of this image:

It's for the knob on the far left...

I have a big hole in mine, where presumably something was secured previous to removing the controls?

What are the tags? got any photos of what you've glued?

I'm gonna take my old one apart to see what I need to replace... will pop up photos :)

I'm trying to keep repair costs cheap as possible with stuff like this... its so easy to spend the money on a working unit, but i want the satisfaction of doing it myself... like what I'm doing with my pulley bearing :)

£82 is a little steep :( was hoping for a cheaper way to fix it or at least re-use parts from another one....

oh bugger :( the same thing has happened with me, the knob on the far left doesnt turn fully, looks like the wheel / cog thing has broken - is this part common across other VW models, I am looking at a retro / cheap fix if I cannot find one in a fully working condition....

Bump. Forgot to say I have a 1994 corrado vr6

As above, not 100% if they are the same as the golf VR6... please confirm if it is.

I spoke to Vince who confirmed the late Golf VR6 kit would suffice for my requirement as the mid / rear hoses on the corrado are the same as the golf :)

Good work! You should think about getting some good quality oil in it really....I use halfords for my little Clio daily, but I wouldn't use it in my VR.

I will do. only got some cheapish oil, and will change after 500 miles on the road for some nice stuff. Always ran my old VR6's on Syntha silver

old oil filter I pulled out was filithy...

I thought the ones off the golf would be ok? I've just stuck a standard set of hoses on mine from golf vr6 ut need banjo bolts still..

Why wouldn't rear / mids fit? Different lengths / fitments?

Well, a cold / snowy weekend didnt put us off!

First of all, applied some rust prevention as it was a little rusty!

Engine back in with little issue now the rear engine mount was sorted.

Few more bits connected up! :)

Attempt one at fitting intake stuff... really need to get some samco hose to couple it all together and chop some hose off the BMC CDA.

Also fitted new fuel filter...

Shiney stuff...

Not quite on the ground yet. had some issues with the brake lines that I need to resolve by way of fitting the banjo bolts and new lines as the nut has rounded off one of them (any suggestions?)

My corrado has got 288mm front brake setup off a late Golf VR6.

I'm after a suitable Goodridge brake line kit for mine, and my mate works for goodridge so getting them next to nothing.

He says for my front 288mm setup I need kit SVW0604-06 ( VW Golf VR6 95 - on) which consists of 6 lines .... front / mids / rear...

My question is, will the other hoses in that kit fit my corrado? I.E mid / rear with them being on the standard Corrado VR6 brake setup (1994 - L Reg)

There was 4 of us doing it, mind :) check out my build thread for what we did over the weekend, chains, head gasket, stem seals, new lifters, water pump, thermostat housing, 6 branch, coilovers, heater matrix... Wheels.. Etc etc..

Hi mate, Yes its been a long time in the coming :) Had a few guys over from VR6OC come help. loads of progress made. hopefully should be an easy weekend when it goes back together with all the big jobs done!

If you look on page 1 of the thread, you will see the car the wheels were on before... going to try my wheels on a late golf VR6 to see if they fit ok :) If not. I'm gonna have to shave more off the carrier :(

I have been collecting parts over the last year, just picked up my new engine mount bolt today, and hoping my mate has been able to extract the snapped bolt from my rear engine mount, got to buy some new track rod ends, and steering rack boots as they are split, and dont want them picked up on MOT when I get around to doing it....

bought a tub of hammerite and some wire brushes today so bring up the engine nicely :)

Fingers crossed, it should be running like new once it's back in... off blackpool next weekend for a stag doo, then 27th / 28th I can crack on with the rest of it with the lads ..

Quick Q guys.

Are the corrado engine plastics (I.E plastic lead retainers, plastic over coilpack etc... ) the same across OBD1 (coilpack) / OBD2 Golf's?

I'm missing some plastics on mine, and have been offered some off a golf for mine..

Ok, as promised! We have had a busy weekend with the corrado build...

Early start this morning, ready for action!

It didnt take long before Tony set to work :)

ahhh, there it is :) didnt take more than an hour to whip out!

the start of stripping the engine..

head gasket defiantly has failed... im pretty sure my finger should not be there...

surprisingly, the bores are in pretty good condition, honing marks still visible....

Thanks to Eastwood John popping over to lend a hand :) Head being cleanedup..

head is now looking better...

same treatment for the block.

meanwhile... the head was being stripped to replace valve stem seals, and new hydraulic lifters..

Ceramic coated raceland manifold fitted.

new timing chains fitted...

I sorted out the intake stuff ready for fitting...

New thermostat housing / crack pipe / thermo stat fitted... (new waterpump fitted earlier in the day)

ARP headbolts being torqued up, unfortunately one of the nuts fell down into the timing chains, so had to remove gearbox again to retrieve it which put us back a little...

Well, we called it a day then... beer to drink, Chinese to eat, and a shit boxing match to watch :)

We had some issues with some bolts snapping, and the biggest pain the arse was the rear engine mount bolt snapped, so cant get the engine in this weekend, until a new one has arrived... or my mate's neighbour has success removing the snapped bolt from the current mount :(

So, we got the Coilovers on.

I needed to shave some off the callipers to squeeze the Brock B2's on the front... this turned out to more than I thought!! Sooooo, i'm going to try the wheels on a Golf tomorrow to see if the 288mm brake setup will be a better option...

John and Jason came over today to lend a land with getting the dash out to replace the heater matrix.... Thanks very much guys :)

now on the ground... note that no engine is fitted, and ride height is yet to be adjusted..... 58mm, front 57mm is what I am going for :)

90% of the dash is now back in, just a few bits n bobs to tidy up

That's it for this weekend.... will next play in 2 weeks time when the engine can go back in...

Few items needed as a result of age / damage etc.... will get these over next couple of weeks :)

Where did you get the sump guard from if you don't mind me asking? Looks very mason tech esq.

And how much was the Reniz headgasket kit?

I got the sump guard off the guy I had the car off. He had a load machined up based on the mason tech one I think. The gasket kit also came with the car :)

Well today I made this happen, first time it's run for over a year and a half.

Time to start stripping it soon and get it rebuilt!
