  1. cheers for the replies, 1, oops i meant it was an LDV with the transit engine (going mental!!! had a hard week) 2, It has got a glow plugs light which did used to come on but is now not coming on 3, I recently had a service so all the filters are fine 4, It looks like the fuel pump has been replaced because it is alot cleaner and less corroded than the rest of the engine Im definately going to start by getting the injectors changed as they do physically look ropey - so is it a job that i can do myself or is a job that i need to get a garage to do?
  2. alright peeps i know its not corrado related but im stuck (with my van blocking my drive!!!) My van sometimes runs really rough and occassionally wont start or if it does start it wont rev then stalls - it seem like not all the cylinders are firing The fuel pump is fine but i dont think the glow plugs are working as the light doesnt seem to be coming on anymore. So what ive been told is that if you have to change the glow plugs the most likely reason for them going is because the injectors are "dripping" fuel onto them and as such you should really replace the injectors as well. On my engine the glow plugs and injectors seem quite easy to get to but does a diesel engine injection system work under pressure or can you just unbolt them and the glow plugs and bung the new ones on? is there anything else i need to know? By the way its an iveco with the 2.5 transit non turbo lump in it cheers Brett
  3. fill it up with water everytime i fill up with petrol (say every 250 miles) - although putting anti freeze in stopped it using water til the warning light came on the whole time - oops
  4. I put a K & N on and that didnt make a blind bit of difference but bugger knows when the oil was changed last so getting them to do that and the oil filter as well
  5. forgetting the skimming - once the headgasket is replaced am i likely to notice better performance because ive done less than 1000 miles in the car in the 6 months ive had it and ive always thought it wasnt as fast as i thought it should be - i think its even slower than my mk 4 golf 1600 (0 - 60 10.8) and its definately slower than my mates well old E30 2L Auto Beemer (hasnt even got the 150 bhp engine just the old 125 bhp one)
  6. they are being a bit vauge at the moment as to what the exactly they are charging because they said they were not sure how long the skimming will take until they get the head off but we have used them many times before and they do always give a through breakdown of labour and part costs and if i seem to remember the hourly rate was quite reasonable. I didnt even know about skimming until they told me because me in my ignorance thought it was just a case of whipping the head and the old gasket off and bunging the new one on! and £400 seemed alot for that !
  7. a spanner? thats one of those spangley metal thingamejiggys?? I wouldnt like to risk it !!!
  8. Garage have quoted me £400 and another £50 to do the cam belt at the same time - does this sound reasonable as i havent got a foggiest idea ! Its a 1990 Valver Cheers
  9. cheers, i didnt really know what they were going on about - i take it the 3 height adjustments are only dooable when the seat is out? Ive rested the seat on the floor with the original runners on (which will have to come off to fit the new subframe) and there is about 6 inches clearance and the runners must be in inch thick - so do you think that the frame is more that 7 inches high?
  10. Just a quick idiot question though - does the 1.8 valver actually have a ECU what with it being mechanical fuel injection??
  11. Ive brought some replica "speeds" and my local recaro dealer has been in touch with recaro in germany about getting some subframes - recaro do list them but they wont send them out because they say that the seats wont fit due to the ole favorite the height of speeds But they do say that they will fit on the lowest subframe height setting but not highest height setting (apparently there are 3 settings) but they dont sound overly sure !! So has anyone ever brought official recaro frames and know what the differences in height the different settings make because i really just want to say send them out on my head be it etc cheers Harumpthhhhhhhhhhhh
  12. i deffo wouldnt say no to the mondeo engine in the Noble M400 - 425 bhp !!! from a blown 3 litre
  13. So would you say no to the engine from a DB9 even though its basically 2 mondeo engines bolted together?? (But then the Bentley W12 turbo is better though)
  14. typical - taken from GPC 50MM FRONT SPOILER.....................£60.00 90MM FRONT SPOILER.....................£30.00 You pay twice as much moolah for less plastic - harumpth !!
  15. I completely agree with the topic - ive got a 16 valver and im getting some moolah later on in the year which is gonna be spent on some sort of engine work. OK so it would be cheaper to buy a VR6 but it wont be "MY" car - i cant explain it - ive spent enough time and money getting my car to the condition i want (apart from the retrim which is on its way) the only thing left is the engine - I would much rather have a minter slower car than a battered VR6 - i know if you are spending 4 plus grand you would get a good 'un but it wouldnt be overly individual.
  16. im not really worried about the splitter - im more worried about ripping the whole of my front bumper off (speaking from experience - lakeside shopping centre, surprisingly high kerb and standard height Astra coupe with front bumper that must have been held on with double sided sticky tape - oops - soooo not a good look driving home with your bumper sticking out of your boot)
  17. because it scrapes the ground when i put my car in the garage (sloping driveway - flat garage) - Its fine at the moment but in the new year im gonna be lowering it a bit and i know full well i am going to have to remove it completely to be able to get it in. I know you can get a thinner one but it still wont be enough with any sort of drop. Will it affect anything completely removing it? cheers Brett
  18. cheers peeps, loads of replies and not one P taken !! (just one tsk tsk)
  19. is it safe to go out when its freezing - does the mech freeze up or anything and blow your motor ?? is there an overide or anything to stop it coming up at 45mph or shall i just pull a fuse out?? cheers Brett
  20. yep nobody going to be giving it away thats for sure but the cossie engine has been dumped in so many different cars over the years i was just wondering really whether it was a easy engine to get in other cars or whether it was just the chosen engine because it was pretty much the most powerful engine around a few years back
  21. I only mentioned it because my local mechanic (and also my bosses best mate) really is a cossie expert and is always doing strange things with cars in his spare time (ie cossie engine in metro!) Anyone who thinks its sacrilege would you really say no if they were giving them away !
  22. Cheers Kev, agree too (moreso for the later interiors). Just have to look at interiors of similar cars (calibra's, preludes) from the same era to see how well the C fairs. Amit The Calibra interior was rubbish even at the time it came out - whats that stupid square clock in aid of? Still some more modern cars dont fare any better - see Skyline and Saxo both rubbish
  23. yep - i forget how much exactly but it was no more than a fiver from the stealers and they had it in stock amazingly it might not have completely cured it as i had to fill it up with antifreeze but it has definately slowed down the water usuage substantially
  24. i forgot who mentioned it on here but my 16 valver was using water but as suggested i tried replacing the water bottle cap and amazingly it fixed it all for the princely sum of £5 - it didnt even look like there was anything wrong with the old one so thanks anyways to whoever suggested it !! Brett
