Hi Kev Do you mean MC Racing in Switzerland ( http://www.supercharger.ch/ ). I have tried in the past to get in contact with them (when I was trying to source a chip) and they just haven't replied to my emails. I know Rag has had 2nd hand Z-Eng chargers in the past, might give him call. Oh how i wished I had done the group buy instead of ebay............

Just when i thought everything was running perfectly. Remap with stealth went well (252bhp, Vince did a great job), water injection kit fitted - car running fine. Only had the charger about a month and had only put about 60miles on it. Great I thought...... Drove into work last night at quite a leisurely pace (about a 3mile trip in to central london) Then suddenly clunk clunk clunk, car stalled. I thought ok, something has worked loose. pulled over to have a look under the bonnet... and to my horror the shart with the small pulley on the supercharger (that is driven by the small belt) had sheared off completely!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Small pulley is rattling around the engine bay and the charger belt is flapping about. All that came to mind was ... "S**T" As you can probably understand I am absolutley gutted for this to happen and really don't know what options I have! If the shaft can be replaced then that would be ideal, if i can get a replacement machined. Does the shaft unbolt from the charger end (fins) via the pointed part in the inlet with 14mm hex cut into it. I am assuming this is a bolt? Does it undo clockwise or anti clockwise?? HELP!!

Thanks to all who helped with this. After my trip to Stealth Racing on Friday, car is now remapped and putting out a healthy 252bhp. Thanks to Vince, top bloke! Cheers!

aha... ok that sounds fine then. I had already taken the angle grinder to the chassis rail anyway, but was being conservative with it (there is plenty of room to adjust the pulley more if i take more off with the grinder). I will need to fix the bolt hole at some point (if i need to mount the standard idle tensioner again), although the helicoil kit looks like it will be fine for that. Thanks again for your help, you have got me out of a few scrapes in the past couple of weeks mate!!

or maybe this will do it? http://www.toolsnextday.ltd.uk/Helicoil_Kits/helicoil_kits.htm Never used these, are they up to the job?

Ok, new problems for me! Charger is on, remap is booked at stealth on friday. Unfortunately I have now worn the thread out on one of the belt tensioner holes that is now used to mount the charger to the engine block (its aluminium so it has worn very quickly due to having the charger on and off a few times and the belt tensioner was swapped around a bit before i fitted the charger). Problem is that it is the hole that holds the bolt that you use to adjust the tension on the charger, so consequently the charger wont hold still and i am out of room to tighten the adjustment on the bracket with the idler pulley on it (mounted to the alternator). I have already tried using steel epoxy to hold the bolt in place but it doesn't seem up to the job. What are my options!!! All i can think of is: a) reinforce the hole and/or attach the bolt in place using more steel epoxy or maybe high temp. PTFE tape to tighten the space around the bolt? b) retap the hole up to the next size bolt (M9 i think), problem is I will have to modify the bracket on the charger to allow a larger bolt size. c) leave that area alone and grind a centimeter off the slam panel to allow m to tighten the idle pulley more (is this a good idea as I don't know if the pulley will take any more tension safely around that area) Any ideas chaps as I may have to postpone my visit to stealth!

Right, I am properly peeved now! Installed the chip, no joy To cut a long story short, I have now discovered that both chips are for a 1994 Golf VR6 - 021906258CR Mine is 021906258B I have emailed mailto:[email protected] to see if they have a chip but they are really hard to get hold of. I haven't got the money for a remap at the moment... how the hell am I going to sort this out!! Bugger!

The small belt is not toothed as it is the ZR1 model, but it is pretty tight. I have got the new chip today, so I will try it later to see if the proper timing / fueling helps. The serpentine belt has room to be tightened more anyway, so as you say I will try a bit of trial and error until it is more satifactory. I haven't checked for any boost leaks yet, the vacuum hoses are all original by the look of it, so some may need tightening / replacing. The idle before I fitted the charger was ok since I cleaned the ISV, so I think it can all be resolved with a bit more tinkering. p.s corradovr6sc, thanks for the info on the A/C compressor. Stoke VW Spares were very friendly and helpful (I spoke to Jamie in the end). I will definately use them again in the future. Cheers Ben

OK, smell seems to have subsided. At idle though, the revs are not holding steady and it is hunting a little. If the headlights are switched on they dim a little as the revs drop slightly. Is this because the belt is still too loose or now too tight... HELP!
-
p.s both belts I have are brand new

I haven't noticed and rubber dust yet (its only been on a couple of hours and I only drove the car around the block to check for any problems, at under 4000rpm to be careful) Do you think I should take it somewhere for them to give it a quick once over? NS Racing perhaps as they are quite local? Or am I worrying to much? The belt does not squeal (it did the first time i fitted it and then realised that i had router the belt the wrong way round, but is fine now). Would an over-tight belt cause the same problems?
-
right then! after much messing about and 1 new fuel rail later (i bent the other one taking the FPR out!), I have finally fitted the the charger. Just waiting for the right chip now (the guy I bought the charger from gave me the wrong one). One question though.... there is a slight burning rubber smell from the area around the charger. Is this the belt slipping or is it something else? The charger has been polished and the guy had not run it on his car since the polishing. Is it possible that the smell is just the charger "running in again" and burning off any bits of crap since it was reassesmbled?

I am happy to give him a call (probably quicker too, itching to get this installed!!) Can you PM me the guys name please? Cheers
-
Mate, that sounds perfect. How do I go about getting it from him. Cheers
-
cool cheers. might this be expensive.. compressors seem to be around the £200 mark! A busted one would be ideal!
-
would be great if you could, much appreciated mate!
-
thats an option... just checking ebay now can't see one on GSF
-
thats what i initally figured. as the alternator spits out an AC charge it should be ok. question is, how long should the belt be... is it purely a case of refitting everything and measuring the length the belt should be with string (as mentioned by Chris VR6nos. Or is there an off the shelf belt that may work?
-
If anyone has a pic of the correct bracket that would be wonderful!
-
ok, so the belts I have are right then (7 rib double sided, 67"). Do you reckon the bracket could be modded by drilling a hole in the bracket and using a stock idler pulley (removed from the belt tensioner for instance). Would be the cheapest option if its possible?
-
Thanks for the reply. Is the bracket the same, but with the extra pulley (i.e 2 pulleys)? The two belts i have are 67" long and came with the kit. I have emailed supercharger.ch, but from experience they take a while to reply.
-
anybody???
-
I have bought a 2nd hand z-engineering zr1 supercharger. Unfortunately it is for VR6 with A/C. Anyone either: a) know the length for the right belt (7 rib double sided) b) have one available to buy c) know a part # or place i can get one from. p.s am I correct in thinking that I don't need a different alternator bracket? Any help very much appreciated. Cheers guys. Ben

Rattle........ what is it? - Updated - Now SORTED!!
mr_fusion replied to mr_fusion's topic in Engine Bay
Yeah... its pretty painfull! Tyres and pads are new (much easier than drums), wipers now work properly (after I bent them into shape) just gotta double check the bulbs. When i took my ex-scirocco last year they properly did me over for £400. Corroded Fuel lines, full set of wheel bearings etc etc.. I think i'll take it somewhere else this time - they are far to dodgy!! Cheers -

Ok, cool I will do any topping up with distilled water then (there is currently 2.5l of coolant mixed with 2.5l of water) The rattle has gone by the way (kind of forgot about the original purpose of the thread with all the excitement!!) Just gotta change the brake pads now.. MOT is up at the end of the month... anything I should look out for?
