The oil temp on my 91 valver rarely shows even after a long journey - even then it never gets above 60. Also the normal temp gauge never goes up as far as it should - usually sitting no more than 70. Are these connected? and what is it likely to be? Cheers

Oops! Didn't realise the subtitle didn't show once the thread was opened. Also didn't know that an Avant was an Estate! Wow! I'm learning loads today!! I'd also like to learn if i should go for this or not at £900? And before anyone says.....it's not a replacement for my Corrado - it's an addition to my VAG family!! Cheers

anyone got a rough idea how much the above car is worth. It's a 94 L reg in silver with 137k and a FSH. It's got a new MOT and tax. it's in excellent condition and everything works. Got the chance to buy this for £900. What do you guys think?

Been told that the nearside driveshaft is away on my 1.8 valver. Any ideas how much this should be to get sorted in a garage? Cheers

Door handle repair kit..........THEY ARE NOW AVAILABLE
Dougalo replied to daves16v's topic in Suppliers Forum
Got a door handle repair kit from Dave - an excellent piece of kit and easy enough to fit (with the help of someone). Highly recommended!! -
I seem to remember finding a website a few years back that told you where your car was first registered when you entered the reg no. Does anyone know of any sites that do this or know what i'm talking about? I think it may have been a site that sold private number plates or something?! PS - my reg is H*** EWK

Aargghh you've nicked my car!! Mine is absolutely identical to yours! Happy motoring mate!

Maybe he wasn't trying?! I got 'beat' off the lights by a corsa sri the other day. I'm sure the corsa driver thought he'd beat me good and proper!!

This is probably a stupid question, but i'm gonna ask it anyway!! I need a couple of engine bits for my 1991 valver - starter motor and alternator. I'm a bit skint so am gonna take a risk and see what i can find on eBay. Are both of these parts exactly the same as the mk2 16V golf? Cheers! (hang my head in shame for asking such a stupid question!)

my valver is pretty bad too. I'm early 20's MPG and i don't drive particularly fast (mostly cos i can't afford the petrol!) :?

I was into work early this morning and when i got there i was greeted with a huge empty car park with a fresh layer of snow on it! What a hoot I had!!

Just looking for some confirmation really....... The temperature gauge on my valver rarely goes above 70C under normal driving conditions and the oil temp on the MFA rarely reaches 60C. Am i right in thinking that the thermostat needs replaced?

My battery light stays on when i start my 16V until i give it a good rev. During these cold mornings it has been staying on for longer and longer. Whilst the battery light is on the blower (and all other electrical things) are weak. As soon as I give it a good rev everything is back to normal. It's been like this for a couple of months now and the car has never not started so the alternator must be charging a bit. Does this sound like my alternator is on the way out? I've been reading about Diode packs - could this need replaced? Cheers

will g60 corrado lowered springs fit a 1.8 16v corrado?
Dougalo replied to pip's topic in Drivetrain
If your after some lowering springs i've got a set of 50mm ones which you can have for £40 delivered. 8) -
Well if its going to cost £200-£300 i'd be far better off getting a new door from somewhere. Hmmm, think i'll need to go and speak to some bodyshops

I have a dent about the size of a football in my passenger door. It hasn't broken the paint, but it does go over both sides of the door strip. Does anyone have any idea how much this would cost to get repaired? Or, would i best sourcing a new door? I'm sure someone out there has had something similar?!

I put a new fuse in the fusebox and it all seems to be working fine now. Strange. Any ideas why this fuse would blow the first time it was used after replacing the thermal fuse, but now seems to be ok??
-
Well to be honest its the first time i've ever soldered anything, but saying that i thought i did a pretty good job. I was delicate so as not to damage anything and i made sure that it was properly soldered into place before i put it all back together. The pop came from the actual fuse box and not the blower.
-
Hi, My 16v had the usual problem with the blower where only setting 4 works. So i invested in a soldering iron and soldered a thermal fuse onto the resistor pack (as per instructions on the internet). Put it all back together, put the keys in the ignition without starting the car and tested - all ok. Job done! (or so i thought!)............ ....I started the car for the first time tonight since sorting this and there was a pop from the fuse box - no blowers at all! What has happened? I followed the instructions for replacing the thermal fuse perfectly i.e. i cleaned out all the crap from inside the fan blower and used the correct 184-degree C breaking point fuse. Any ideas?

Both my golf gti 16v and 16v corrado have revved up to 2,000 rpm when cold. Never caused me any probs, although i sometimes think that it is a little bit much for a cold engine to take.

I don't live near a GSF so i'll prob just go to my local VW garage and get someone from the parts dept to tell me. Cheers
