electric locking fuel flap unlocking sounds much like this, is on the rear driver side over here so would be passenger side in the US I would guess
-
well I guess I'll find out as its now on order!!
-
already have a milltek and k&n in a drilled airbox. jury is still out on the air box mod!! as the enigne is in bits I'm trying to dot the i's and cross the t's on anything else that I should do at this point.
-
Oh yeah, how restrictive is the original fit? is it really that bad that something like this will genuinely give a 10% increase or is this the usual b.s.??
-
apologies, should have made this clearer, I'm on about the exhaust manifold not the inlet one
-
so if I have understood correctly form this and other threads. k jet on the valver is good for about 200bhp, the best the 16v is producing in non turbo/supercharged form on here seems to be around the 160-170 mark. it seems if you want to exceed the capapbilities of the k-jet then your into real big bucks with engine management and forced induction. so what thoughts are there on how to exceed the theoretical 170bhp barrier without going full out engine management and turbo/supercharger. i'm not after a 350bhp firebreather just interested in maximising the potential of the existing set-up

this is on ebay http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll? ... %3AIT&rd=1 anybody used one of these? have any comments? it appears to have been designed for the 16v golf but they claim it will fit the corrado also. is this the case? if so presumably ANY 16v golf freeflow exhaust manifold would be a straight fit? thoughts please

if your lucky and have not already been on one they may offer you a driving course in place of the points. costs depend on area but are typically in the region of £60-£150
-
anyone running a turbo on a 16v?? what power output are you getting? and what spec you running?
-
there appear to be two types of inlet manifold 42 and 50mm does this refer to the internal diameter of the channels? or external? not sure whats fitted to mine and want to find out! ta

just had it confirmed, number one big end bearing shell has disintergrated damaging the number one crank journal into the bargain. the head, block and crank are off to the engineering shop on monday for a full once over.
-
rev dependant, LOUD, went from a wonder what that flapping noise (only just able to hear it) to BL**dy hell that sounds expensive within a mile. So much for the engine having been rebuilt 11K miles ago!
-
looks like either a big or little end bearing has given up the ghost. (still I manged about 8 weeks of ownership before the first catastrophic failure!) So while the bottom end is being 'done' is there anything else I should consider having sorted while it's being worked on??
-
yesterday I mostly 'lunched' the bottom end. (sigh) so far 8 weeks of ownership and now an engine rebuild garage are supposed to be diagnosing it today but judging by the noise it made when it went yesterday afternoon at 60mph it aint going to be cheap. I would'nt mind if I'd been caneing it but the old girl has been pretty much nursed through the first weeks of ownership whilst I got used to her.

oil sits around 90-100ish and water is around 100ish generally unless i start pressing the loud pedal alot!!
-
Had a bit more time to look into this today. On my valver there are two sensors on top of the housing the oil filter screws onto. The one nearest the front of the car is the temperature sensor and had the blue/black wire to it. The one nearest the block is the low pressure sensor and should have the yellow wire attached to it. (mine had just had the yellow wire shorted to earth to shut the buzzer up! the joys of second hand cars (sigh) ) White and blue is spare

Thats the whole point of case law, it sets a precedent for future similar cases. In order to prosecute someone for what is or is not reasonable YOU MUST define in law what 'reasonable' is. to do otherwise would be like saying we are going to prosecute you for speeding without telling you what the speed limit is!!
-
Hit the submit button to quick!! so to finish off. Where case law does not exist it waits to be set. For this to happen it would require a police force to make the decision to prosecute you for driving what they deem to be an unreasonable distance and to then win that case. this would then set case law because a judge would have to define what reasonable is so that they could then say the distance you travelled was'nt. Hope that makes sense Just wish I knew for certain whether case law had or had not been set on this issue
-
Define reasonable????? Hence my point about case law, If I was at work I'd check the legal database to confirm it. To the best of my knowledge case law has not yet been written as to what 'reasonable distance' actually is in this particular circumstance. to you 10 miles is reasonable, to someone living in the highlands or deepest darkest cornwall your nearest MOT testing staion could be 20 miles away. The law remains the same for everybody. The point is, in order to be prosecuted on something subjective like 'reasonable' previous case law will have set a precedent as to what that may be.
-
I am unaware of any case law in relation to a maximum mileage you can travel to the MOT testing station. (that doesnt mean there isnt any though!) Usual rule of thumb tends to be from your home address to the MOT testing place. MOT testing place to garage where the repairs are to be carried out. or back to the address where the repairs are to be caried out. would be okay without tax and MOT. Obviously as soon as the MOT is in your hands you have no excuse for not being taxed! So ideally take all your paperwork with you and head straight to the post office. As always with these things it's officers discretion. They would be having a pretty bad day and be fairly harsh I reakon if they gave you a hard time travelling that distance to a demonstrable pre-booked MOT.

you just KNOW you're gonna get a speeding ticket now and everyone will point the finger back to your last post and give you no sympathy whatsoever. ;)

I did'nt see that program so I don't know the full story around this. Around here we have loads of the yellow background speed signs but although they have the yellow background they do clearly have the red circle with the white inner and the speed limit displayed as per the highway code for a normal speed limit sign. These signs make it easier to see well in advance that your approaching a hazardous area requiring a speed reduction for safety purposes. The irony of the very thing that lets you pick these out well ahead of the 'normal' speed limit sign making it illegal is definately not lost on me. If there is any case law to uphold this decision then it is only a matter of time before the law gets changed I suspect.
