http://www.vegeuk.com/ Doesn't matter!

Has anybody got a web address for them?
-
The price from VW wasn't an exchange, if I did exchange it it only got 5% off. Might have to look at VEGE engines, remember reading about them a while back.
-
Ooops sorry yes its a VR6 2.9.

Spoke to VW and I can get a new 'basic engine' (not a short engine) for £2800 inc VAT with a 2 year guarantee. As its £2500ish for a rebuild would you say thats a pretty good price? Awesome reckon it is. How much to swap my engine over with that? Obviously using my ancilleries. It comes with, as VW said, the 'sump up' including the head, no ancilleries'.

I'd like to think I'm over the worst bills! I've replaced susp/bushes/ecu and numerous other mech items. Well, until the engine rebuild of course! :luvlove:

Just having a clear out of the Corrado's book, not of receipts but of any crap that comes with them and thought I'd tot up all the invoices to see what I come up with! Bear in mind this DOES NOT include insurance or tax or buying the car itself, just repairs and upgrades etc. Owned since Jan 2006 - No accidents so all standard stuff, but does include a £530 bodyshop bill and wheel refurbs. Total: £7428.76 + ins & tax Car was bought for £2600 (inc in total above). That £248 per month! What can I get for £248 p/m on finance under a year old? I'm not sure if I'm happy or not! :|

Mines £200 excess with Brentacre?

When I asked for a few quotes for an engine conversion (we're talking Awesome/PSI prices) then £5k was the minimum drive in drive out! If you can do it yourself then it'd be much cheaper. Although how much in parts would it cost to rebuild a 12v? If you did it yourself I'd bet you wouldn't break £1k!
-
IIRC Stans went for £5k last year? Very good examples of a VR6 (like low mileage) seem to be going for at least 4.5k (lets forget the credit crunch here) so a top and bottom end rebuild, basically a new engine surely would be worth at least that? Can't be far off either way?

Just returned off a British holiday recently. Went to the Peak District (I'm in West Yorks) and then down to Clacton-On-Sea (Essex) to see my mum and dad. Did about 850 miles in total. Keighley to Peak District (Buxton) to Essex to Keighley. There was quite a lot of Peak District journeys done over the 5 days we were there, unfortunately only some spirited as they're mega paranoid with Scameras and 50mph limits everywhere! Anywho on the way back from Essex to Keighley, going up the A1, I stuck at 60mph-65mph (exc passing lorries to get out of. the way) According to the Trip I got 33.2MPG! (VR6) - Never got it above 30 before on long journeys. Normally I'd be doing at least 70-75mph. I know they'll be people thinking 'why get the car to drive it like that' but when you're on a M-Way or a road like the A1 where speeding isn't really possible and fun driving doesn't exist then why not! Over the whole 850miles got an average of 30.3MPG too! This was confirmed as well as I worked it out using my petrol reciepts!

Same dilemma here (my engines fine at the mo, just forward planning!). I'm going down the rebuild route at some point as I believe a minter of a standard engined Corrado will be a better option and increasingly rare. I reckon you'd get as much for a fully rebuilt Corrado as you would a 24v Corrado conversion, maybe more as a only people 'in the scene' will want to go for a conversation car. The R32 was a serious consideration for the extra bhp (when modded esp) and uniqueness. My plan is now to fully rebuild the VR, poss uprate a few things and then Supercharge it. The reason I've decided this is because I'd want a very reliable engine for the S/C and when it came to selling time I could just remove the supercharger and put it back to standard, then sell the charger. You've got to ask yourself what your priority is, if its not financial or 'keep it original' then I'd defo go for the R32.

Awesome reckon around £2500+vat for a full rebuild, using standard components.

Most ancilleries have been replaced. Susp, ECU, parts of the coolant etc. It's just I'm ready to start the next 'phase' if you will. The car runs fine but plug 1 & 6 do the usual and foul up. I do have a little bit of piston ring wear??? so I'm told. The main problem is I don't have the confidence in it that I used to have and am almost expecting things to happen when I use it. The thought is if I can save up and afford to rebuild it I might as well rather than let the money sit there or get spent on something else.
-
Ok here's the situation. I've got to the point where I've paid things off and can start to actually save etc. My plan is and always has been to rebuild my VR6's (Corrado) engine to get it ultra reliable, including if it was supercharged. My engine still works fine (especially as a weekend car) but is getting on a bit now. I have no mechanical knowledge past what I've read so any answers can you keep in dumb dumb speak! :) Ques1: How much would you set aside (rough guestimate I know) for a full rebuild if I wanted the above? Parts cost? Ques2: What would you uprate whilst this is been done? I'd want a reliable engine that could easily take a stage 2 Supercharger. Ques3: Would it be cheaper to get another VR6 engine (as mines stil working) and get them to rebuild that, then swap over? My contraints are: Reliable enough not to worry about taking it across Europe etc and up to a stage 2 supercharger. Almost factory fresh/uprated if you will. After much thought I'm wanting to do this over an engine transplant. Thanks!

Well the garage has rung up with what the problem was (got it serviced there too). Turns out a spark plug (1) was fouled up! All those issues and it was a dodgy spark plug! Still, I was expecting a new cat & exhaust so v happy about the cost! :)
-
A few pics of the exhaust, possibly the culprit? Almost seems scorched at the tailpipe, wasn't like that before. Also a bit hanging down in the middle!
-
Is possible I suppose but that was proven to be working fine in January when I had a new ECU put in. Bloody thing!
-
It's a VR. Blue temp sensor was replaced in Jan. I've had a faulty sensor before and this is way worse. I'm thinking a fuel issue or knock sensor after reading this; viewtopic.php?f=1&t=57830&st=0&sk=t&sd=a&hilit=hesitant

No, nothing since Jan has been done to the car. Sits in the garage and comes out weekends. If it is this timing chain thingy, what then? Oh, and it got slightly more responsive the higher the revs if that tells you anything?

Ok here's the situation. Drove to leeds about 45 mins. Absolutely perfect! About 6 hours later set off to go back home. Had real problems starting, idling was iffy and it cut out a few times. If I pressed the accelerator fully nothing happened, the only way I could get it to rev at all was to blip the throttle quickly. After a few minutes like that it stabilised a bit but the idling was still lumpy, we decided to set off to see how it was. For the whole journey back it was like I'd left the hand brake on or something! Pressing the accelerator fully or partially didn't make a difference as you'd expect. I could only just gradually speed up. Any sort of incline almost killed it and the revs fell off. In parts it probably looked like a new learner driver was driving, with it been jerky! On a particular steep hill I had to drop to 1st and crawl up! Another thing I noticed was that when pressing the accelerator fully/a lot, everynow and then I'd hear a metallic 'ping/ding' followed by a brief jerk. The exhaust was slightly louder than normal, more boomy but in a normal sounding way. When I stopped there was a lot of pinking coming from the exhaust as if it was very hot, the plastic centre tunnel in the cabin (where the handbrake is) also felt as if I'd been on a m-way for a few hours, warm. Oil and water temps were normal. It's getting serviced on thursday, so its been a while. On previous occasions if it's been a while between services I've noticed that a couple of spark plugs were black/oily, usually no.1. If a spark plug or 2 were knackered could they cause this type of problem? Going down hill sounded perfectly normal (on overrun) if that helps.
-
You won't get taxed on that though if your missus 'recycles' the waste! :norty:
-
Is the price of todays petrol affecting your standard life stuff yet? Like not going to x because it'd be too expensive or changing your car purely because of its MPG? I think it's getting to the point where it's really impacting normal life decisions!

The rocker cover is metal?
