Getting a bit confused over insurance for the business. Background: 2 people getting 1 policy to cover any vehicle up to £25k, done in the name of the business, not 2 individual policies. What happens if we have a claim? Do we both lose our no claims (when referring back to private car ins) or is this seperate? If it's seperate then do we have to start the business's insurance off with 0 no claims? Hope this makes sense! Andy

Hoping to get a van within the next 2 months and decided on a VW Caddy (Van, not pickup!) Has anyone on here got any info/common faults etc, I've searched for a Caddy site but couldn't find one, not exactly common I suppose! PS: If anyone see's a black Caddy for under £2k give me a shout! :) Cheers!

I'm wanting to get my roof sorted out with a respray (few scratches and an annoying mobile phone aerial) and I got thinking! (Always a dangerous and expensive thing!) Is it possible to 'fill in' for the want of better words the sunroof and 'roof rack sills'? so the roof is completely smooth? I'm sure someone on here did it but I can't find it. Can it be done reliably, as in not 'cracking' after a month or something? Cheers Andy

Ring VW up, give them your chassis number and they can probably tell you the history (at VW garages) and the original purchase price.

Not tight, just curious! I've heard a few peeps on ED38 with the 1.8T saying they got better MPG after changing HT leads. Can cheap and/or malfunctioning leads cause a loss of MPG? Even with an engine that appears to drive with no probs? (Also seems to pull a little better through the whole rev range now but I poss put that down to the air filter?
-
I've recently replaced some HT leads (cheap GSF) with some Magnacor ones and also replaced the air filter with a pipercross panel filter. No other changes made. Since then (and I'm not complaining!) I've seen my average MPG go up by about 3-4 to 28.5MPG. I normally get around 24MPG, mainly A Road and town driving, proven over several thousand miles. The last 500 I've got the higher miles on the same routes/style etc of driving. Could getting better HT leads improve MPG? Or perhaps the panel filter? 2nd Ques - If your sat on a M-Way at 70MPH and obviously the spoiler is up, what sort of MPG increase do you think you would get if the spoiler was down? I'm assuming that the extra drag would decrease MPG, just unsure as to by how much. 0.5? 3-4? Any ideas? Just curious! Cheers! Andy

A full de-swirl today, nice to be back working on Old Skool Dubs! This time a Golf GTI 1.8 16v (1990) in black. One thing was pretty unique with this one though in that the owner has owned it for 17 years from new! Amazing! Here's a pic of the car as it arrived, looking pretty good I have to say. Unfortunately as we had to make sure we got the whole car done by the end of the day we didn't take loads of pics, after all he was coming from Beverley (160 mile round trip!). Out came the Karcher Pressure Washer, Wash Mitts, Gilmour Gun (with Snowstorm inside), Sonus Der Wunder Drying Towels, Meguiars Last Touch, Sonus Green Clay, Megs Super Degreaser & APC and a couple of Megs Alloy Wheel Brushes. (Can you tell this is a quick write up this time! :) ) Once the Golf was washed (twice, the 2nd time with APC to reduce existing wax), we clayed the whole car using Sonus Green and Last Touch for lubricant. There was very little on the car the clay pulled off, it does spend most of its time in a garage! A third wash after the claying completed that stage and we dried the car off. The next job was to take PDG readings, which averaged 90nm-100nm over most of the car, with the exception of the bonnet reading at only 80. We then started to take pics of what we were tasked to get rid of! The car was pretty heavily swirled and had a lot of holograms! This pic below shows the hologramming on one side, the wing has being done and the door hasn't (as if you needed telling!). PS. The little white line in the wing is a bin lid reflection, not a hologram like a few people first thought. After a bit of trialling, we settled on Meg's #83 and the trusty yellow SFX pads, spritzing with Last Touch. This took around 4-5 hours for this part alone over the whole car, mainly due to the lovely hard VW paint we've being blessed with! Here's a pic of the car about half way through the machine polishing, notice the snazzy 3M Blue masking around the rubber & plastic trim! We had to get the monster canopy out (6m x 3m) half way due to the sun getting quite insistant! Once the machining had being done, we started on the trim, glass and of course the sealant and waxing. For the trim we used Megs#38, the glass Megs Glass Cleaner (nice smell too!) and for the sealant we chose to go for Clearkote Mousse Glaze, followed by the very popular Collonite 476s (chosen by the customer). Sorry about the brief write up but here are the pics after about 7 hours work! Thanks for reading!

Is replacing the fans an expensive do? Looks tight down there. (got aircon too) Is it worth replacing the radiator when thats done? (Whenever it might need it)
-
Water temp. I do have aircon, it just doesn't work! :)
-
This was on friday, haven't had it hot since then. I use it for work and (next week anyway) I'm likely to be in rush hour traffic. With it going to PSI Tuning on sat I just wondered if they're cheap I'll get them to replace the temp sensors. Are they meant to kick in before 100c?
-
I'm about to order some HT leads for my VR, the ones on mine are cheap and crap. Can I assume the ones from VWspares are at least as good as VAG ones? The guy on the phone said Beru made the original VW ones?
-
Got caught in a couple of days ago and obviously the engine gets hot (VR6). The fans kicked it at 100c-102c and it cooled down, this happened about 3-4 times no problem. The 5th time the fans didn't come in at all and the temp went up to 112c! Thankfully I'd started moving at a reasonable speed and that cooled it down but the fact the fans didn't cut in at all now has me worried. Plus, after searching I've noticed that the fans should actually cut in earlier? Around 90c? It's going to PSI on sat but just for a basic service, they don't have time for anything else as they're busy, so is there a temp sensor or something that this could be that I can just buy (relatively cheaply) and get them to fit rather than spend time (which I haven't got) diagnosing it. I seem to recall a temp sensor at the bottom of the radiator??? Is that pretty quick to fit? (for a garage I mean) Cheers Andy

Here's the situation; VR Rado with Aircon thats not worked since I bought it 1yr 1/2 ago. 9 months ago I got it regassed and the pressure was fine (and held) but the compressor wouldn't kick in. The aircon guy said it was either the compressor itself or possibly the wiring. Now I can live without aircon, I've never had it before (working anyway!) in any car I've owned. My dilemma is whether or not I should take all the aircon bits out as all it's doing is adding weight etc, or try and get it repaired at an unknown cost. (how much would a new compressor be if its that!) What do you think? It's not exactly common on Rados so would I be any idiot to get rid of it or is it a waste of time? Also, if its all taken out, do I have to replace anything other than the aux belt? Cheers!

It's only 'slightly uncomfortable' when going over an uneven surface (like when half the top layer of tars come off), and I have to take speed bumps at 10mph! Cobbles are fun too but it's not to a level where it's really annoying. I still use it as a daily driver. Certainly not when you've just spent a weekend flying around the lake district! Vrrrrooooooom! That was fun! Feels pretty planted now!
-
Haven't posted up pics for ages so here's the newest ones taken from a tarn near me! Biggest difference being the KW Coilovers and Powerflex Bushes all round! Site much nicer now! :)
-
Well he's bought one, bet you won't guess what it is!
-
He only paid £360 for the car! Bargain now!
-
Far too common for me then!

Whats a Rivage? Exactly?
