  1. The idles being awful for months. Occasionally it would refuse to start and then be alright for a while. I've being meaning to get it sorted for a while but the seized caliper has kinda of brought it forward as its at Awesome now, Just spoken to Euro parts and he said that my MAF sensor isn't on an exchange program anymore as its the earlier one. He did say that it was a Bosch one though and poss get it from Germany as an exchange but cna't find out til the 2nd.

I had to get it to Awesome because I arrived in Warrington on Xmas day on the back of an AA truck with a seized caliper! Awesome are only 7 miles away.
  3. Well after getting the car dragged to Awesome GTI, they've come back with a list of things that needs doing. They can't get a price for anything til Monday for obvious reasons! Any ideas for this lot? Some I already have a vague idea. New MAF sensor. (£230ish from VW Dealer?) ECU Speed Sensor (Haven't a clue) Blue temp sensor (£10) Brake Caliper (£50 already bought) They also said that the plug had being modified so they couldn't replace the Lambda Sensor I'd bought?? That I don't get? Any ideas on the speed sensor? Thats the big mystery price wise for me? Cheers!
  4. The plan for xmas was this; Wake up, finish off the trifle, then slouch til the missus woke up (worked til 7am). Cleaned the Corrado the day before so all's well there! At 2-3ish, set off to Warrington (from Keighley) to go to her Mum & Dads for a few days. Fine! It'll give the car a good run and I'll finally get to drive it rather than use the van! 15 minutes into the journey just as we entered Halifax, I pulled up to a roundabout and all of a sudden noticed smoke coming form the left side of the car! Pulled onto the side and got out to have a look. I looked at the pass side front wheel only to find that the brake disks were glowing red!!! :doublesho The caliper had seized. :( So this is how we arrived (2 hours late) to our christmas meal on the christmas day! Along comes the the 27th Dec and I now have to hope and prey that I can get a caliper (good luck!) and find someone to do it. Nope to both! My only hope was to get the car to Awesome GTI from Warrington which is only 7 miles but too far with a stuck caliper! Rang the AA again hoping that it's no problem them getting me there as well. Thankfully they came back to pick it up and take it to Awesome. So I'm back in Keighley now with no car (thankfully the van still!) and awaiting the call from Awesome as to when and more crucially how much! CHUFFING CARS!!!!
  5. Calipers are £100+VAT from VAG, £50 from GSF (p/x). I assume the calipers you have are the same as my standard ones? (yes I'm very mechanical!) Is the pass side (thats whats siezed on mine) in good condition? Cheers!
  6. Why am I finding it a pain to find front calipers for the VR? GSF don't list them and a few other parts places I tried also said they don't do them. Surely they can't be a VAG only part? I only need a passenger side one! Will a MK3/4 caliper work? Cheers
  7. I'd VAG-COM first as although mines better with the blue temp sensor, I've now found out that I need a new MAF (£220!!!!) and a new Lambda. Temp sensor was a little fiddly (my aircon is in the way), but easy to do. Unplug the sensor (its just below and to the right of the inlet manifol at the front), pull a clip up that holds it in place (a U shaped bit of metal) and then the sensor should pop out. It's in a bank of 3 sensors. Try not to be too forceful as you don't want to break the sensor housing. Might also be easier if you remove your coolant res tank lid. Just bear in mine that you'll lose loads of coolant so make sure you have some ready to top up when your done.
  8. A 93K? According to them (after I gave them my reg) they can't get hold of them.
  9. £230 for a new MAF sensor!!!!!!!!! What do VW think we're made of? Tried GSF and they don't sell them. :( Those dealers should wear stripey tops and a balaclava! Robbing barstewards! Rant over.
  10. Ah! :? Will re-do the check and report back. I imagine that the lambda & MAF will need replacing as it's not running right at all and it would explain a few things!
  11. We just cleared the codes and then started the car. A minute later we did another scan and the above came up straight away.
  12. Just VAG-COM'd the VR6 and it came up with the following; We checked the fault codes and then cleared them. Started the engine up and then ran VAG-COM again. This was all done within 10 mins so the engine never got up to temp. The faults listed here were identical to the faults listed before we started the engine, I've heard I need to run the engine for a while after clearing the codes but we didn't have time and these came up immediately. VAG-COM Version: Release 311.2-N Chassis Type: 50 - VW Corrado Scan: 01,02,03,08,15 Address 01 ------------------------------------------------------- Controller: 021 906 258 AG Component: MOTOR PMC 1 Coding: 0261203109 Shop #: 1267357531 5 Faults Found: 00522 - Engine Coolant Temperature Sensor (G62) 27-10 - Implausible Signal - Intermittent 00553 - Mass Air Flow Sensor (G70) 29-10 - Short to Ground - Intermittent 00537 - Lambda (Oxygen Sensor) Regulation 11-10 - Control Limit Not Reached - Intermittent 00533 - Idle Speed Regulation 09-10 - Adaptation Limit Surpassed - Intermittent Readiness: N/A Address 03 ------------------------------------------------------- Controller: 1H0 907 379 C Component: ABS/EDS TEVES 04 1 Fault Found: 00532 - Supply Voltage B+ 35-00 - - Skipping Address 15-Airbags End ------------------------------------------------------- Now even I can figure out that the MAF and Lambda need replacing (this is being goingon months so I've given up going down the cheapest route!) but I'm not sure what the Idle Speed Regulation fault is? My ISV valve was replaced a few months back albeit with a used one. Could it be something else? I've also just replaced the Blue ECU temp sensor so I'm wondering if the fault its coming up with there is related to one of the others? Any ideas guys? Cheers! (to dr_mat too! :) )
  13. Just spoke to VW. Apparently theres a temp sensor on the inlet manifold, could that cause idling issues? One other sensor they mentioned (for prices anyway) was a Throttle Valve Patentiometre???? £65. Whatever the hell that is!
  14. Don't you have a 16v Corrado? What sensor(s) should I ask for? If it's under £20 then I'll just replace them!
  15. Ok, just replaced the temp sensor and that sorted that problem out! Woohoo! Unfortunately an old problem has re-appeared. On start up it revs at about 1,100rpm to 1,200 rpm, when it gets warm it then decides to idle at 250rpm! It doesn't cut out but its close! I had the Idle (something) valve replaced a few months back albeit with a used one. Am I being unlucky or could another sensor be out which would cause this? It also seems to overfuel when cold, whiteish smoke (although not loads) and a petroley smell. Any thoughts?
  16. £7.50 delivered from GSF!
  17. Woohoo! Replaced the temp sensor and it works a treat now! Cheers! :D
  18. Just (trying) to replace the blue temp sensor. I've got the plug off but I can't get the sensor out! Is there something elde I need to do or do I just need to get a pair of pliers to it? Cheers! Andy
  19. Worth a shot but I can't get the thing to idle, cuts out after a second or three. VAG-COM's probably the best bet. Just missed a GB on another forum too! :(
  20. Now I just need to sort out VAG-COM! :) Cheers!
  21. Aren't they a sub £20 item? If so I might just replace it regardless.
  22. Ok this is what happens. VR6 Engine cold, left overnight etc. I come out to use it and it takes a little longer to start and then when it does it last a few seconds before it cuts out. If I keep my foot on the accelerator (say half way down) it revs a bit and then cuts out. The only way I can keep it from stalling is by constantly blipping the throttle (on, off, on, off etc). Even then it doesn't rev as much as it should. This will carry on until it gets warm. When the car does get up to running temp it's fine, runs like a dream! Although it has done its cut out routine today when left idling for a while??? Now I'm hoping its just a spark plug problem as my engine has a habit of fouling up a couple of plugs but I've had someone say it could be my head gasket? Weeps water in when cold and is ok when it's warm as teh gasket expands? Dunno! It's lost about 1cm of water (looking at the header tank) in several months if that tells you anything. I'm going to check the sparks when I get a socket set, any other ideas? Oh, what size do I need for the sparks? Cheers! Andy
  23. My C keeps cutting out after starting, I'm pretty sure that one of the sparks is dodgy/dirty as it's being noted when serviced and it's almost due it now. If I can get it warm its fine then. Anywho, I have the lead removal tool but not socket to get the spark plugs out themselves (lost when I recently moved), anyone near me got one? :( Not urgent but just a thought! Cheers!
