yeah I must admit the rado shed a whole different light on my daily comute to work. 26 miles of rollin welsh road sure does make you glad to be alive after a bad day at the office.
-
not 100% sure yet. New 16" rims, may lower her a tad. middle box on exaust needs serious attention so may replace the rear whilst I'm there. apart from that wanted to keep it reasonably original. oh apart from droping some fat cones in the back this weekend. :afro:

She is treating me ok now that I have replaced the head gasket, skimmed etc, new cylinder seals an so on. she works well now and have already ran up 4k since getting it in december

But are you going to see the cars or those nice austrian women you mention on coupehaus!!!! Looks like it could be a great site by the way!!!!!!!!!!!!
-
I have done it through france and from santander. Personally i would say go through france. Some of those straight roads through northern france are a delight especially round Le mans providing you keep out of the jean dammes way...

have you tried 'bleeding it'. Running the engine with the water cap off and heaters on full bore and reving it a bit. it may blow out any air blocks you might have. Also have you checked the plug that goes into the top of the bottle. If this is unplugged or not connected properly the light flases constantly.... have tried both of these on mine but still got the flash!! am thinking of changing the water bottle this weekend. Let me know how you get on Geoff :afro: :afro: :afro: :afro:

was just wondering if you fixed this as i have a similar problem myself. Was thinking of swapping the bottle from my mk 2 golf as it is relativley new???

hmmm thought that was the case!!!! DOH!
-

Headgasket on the way out - what should i be paying?
FTM1975 replied to PoorMansPorsche's topic in Engine Bay
i recently spent £414 fixing the head, re skimming, new bolt set etc and also had the cylinder seals replaced!!!!!!! -
Ok Nice one Dines I will try this when i find enough daylight during my busy schedule to get it done. I have noticed that alot of the electrical conections look a bit messy. And had to reconect the water light already to get it stop flasing continually anyway. will give it a try!!!
-
it is a H reg 1991 valver. I did give it a quick bleed the other day but probally need to do it again properly! as didn't give it much revs or have the heaters on. will try it again though! anyone with any other suggestions most welcome!

Am still having problems with the water light flashing on my valver... have had a new head gasket recently and everying is now fine with that am not losing any water. however whenever I accelerate through 2nd and 3rd mostly, the water light starts flashing!!!! Any ideas anyone????
-
Yeah i would the definatlly a pressure test, also check inside your oil cap and on your dip stick for a whitish residue. this is a sure sign that water is getting in somewhere, also the oil in the oil filter may be a little creamy and the air filter may also show some tell tale signs. I just had a head rebuild on my valver, the mechanic told me a few more miles and it would have gone pop, but all fixed now with new cylider seals aswell, if you take it to the right place you are probally looking in the region of 400 quid or so.
-
Ahhhhhh problem solved boys! Hadn't had a chance to check since i picked her up as was dark but just had a look at lunch time and the lead hadn't been reconected properly! two second fixes are so satifying after the stresses of a head gasket relacement!
-
where abouts is the header tank seal located? I will check this out. also will check the level prongy thingy!!!!
-
i picked my rado up from the garage yesterday after having the cylinder head replaced, re-skimmed, new cylinder seals etc. tbh it drives like a new car so am pretty pleased at the moment. However, (and there is always a however), The water light has been constantly flashing since i picked her up, I have checked the levels and evrything is fine, there is now water leaking anywhere, and frankly im quite stumped as to why this is happening?? have any of you guys got any ideas as to why this is happening before i get back onto the garage? :)

i've got to agree with 4Stud. recent experience tells me you could be spending alot more money on the car after you have bought it to put right all the things that have't been done to it since the service history was "miss placed"

i hope so mate, i cant wait. I have recently gone from a Mk2 8v golf GTi to this rado and although speed wise there doesn't seem to be a massive difference, the continual power delivery through the revs is much better than the golf pressumably because of the 16v's Still a new head, these welsh roads, and rado makes a great consilation for a 50 mile daily commute!!!!! :D :D

I recently purchased my first rado (1991 valver) only to discover after a few days that there was a problem with the Head gasket. admittedly this is probably due to my incompetence at the time of purchase but you live and learn dont you, and think i have just about come to terms with the fact a was probably had!!!!!!!!! Anyway I have just got off the phone to the garage and they have fixed the head, re-skimmed it, replace the cylinder seals at my request and comp tested it and its all looking good. Am picking it up tommorrow and must admit i cant wait. was just wonderng weather I will be able to notice any difference now that this has been done. Apart from the head its only done 83K (approx average 6k per year) and is in really good condition. I have read that the head should really be done on a 16v at 100k anyway so would ave been due soon anyway. Another thing i was wondering is that now I have had this done, should I take it easy on the engine for a few hundred miles just to ensure that it wears in OK.

Well lets be sensible, Park it next to your original C. Looks wise I think we would all choose the Original over the new one????????

mate its a VW not a Rover!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
