  1. Hardknott and Wrynose are best tackled in something 4 wheel drive and very torquey.. my discovery is perfect.. also guys would recommend you dont head over there in your C;s for a good drive... You cant see feck all on the brows, the road is only wide enough for one car and its g enerally not a nice road.. in fact 20mph is doing very well..... plus this time of year there is often so ar$e took a wrong turn and peering over the top of hte pass trying to work out if he can get his volvo and caravan down it or will he have to reverse out.... Not a driving road at all, but the scenery is awesome. Having said htat, there are some awesome roads in the lakes, you just have to find them, north lakes tends to be quieter.. less old biddies....
  2. Well just to finish off the post shes back and all work completed... Final costs are... water pump (VW) £28.30+VAT Temp Sensor (VW) £22.37 + VAT Thermostat (VW) £9.40 + VAT 2 hours labour New Banner Battery £56.13 + VAT 2 Goodyear Eagle F1 GSD3 fitted £89.06 + VAT Totla bill £328.52 Not bad i think when you take off the cost of battery and tyres..... Coolant work actually only cost £157.92
  3. Any good car crash repair garage should have 4 wheel alignment kit..... And dont get fobbed off by going in to get teh tracking checked, it is very very different in both cost and the difference it makes to the car. Mark

    Roof Trim

After my car has been parked up for the winter the sides of the trim strips on the roof have started to disintegrate. Anyone know where i can get new strips and how much the supplier is going to rip me off for them? Thanks, Mark
  5. Jon, when you changed hte suspension did you replace top mounts, rubbers etc? it is possible you have put a mount in upside down, so the strut is not sitting in the mount properly. I have heard this makes the ride feel like sh1te too.... Worth checking. Alternatively, if you didnt replace them, then they probably need replacing. If hte cars still on original mounts could be the harder suspension has split one of hte mounts. I would get it checked out by a mechanic to be honest, preferably one you know has fitted coilies before and preferably on a Golf or Corrado. Mark
  6. Personally i love the way the flat letterbox oval style fills the cut out. This is my Scorpion Boxer system She has lost the 4x4 ride height now though.....
  7. I have the FK Konigsport coilover kit fitted to my valver. Quality is excellent and htey use Koni dampers which are top adjustable. Had the car 4 wheel aligned after fitting ( this is VITAL!!! but quite expensive, any decent body shop / accident repair place should be able to do it. I had mine done at a local Citroen repair center cos one of hte guys who works there is a G60 driver..) I have it set up wit hthe rear dampers as soft as possible, fronts about one turn up from soft. Ride is very hard over sharp ridges and pot holes need to be avoided. However, handling is amazing and cross country comfort is fine ( we have some really cach roads in lincolnshire) Thats on 15inch original rims with 195-50-15 tyres. Have not been in another car on differnt coilies so cannot make comparison, also 8 valve is lightest C in the range i believe, so probably makes a bit of a difference too. Having said that, i love the ride and handling of hte car, and looks ( had to lift it a bit from where i wanted the ride height as i was loosing the front spoiler every time i put it on the drive.....) 8. Well shes booked into my local specialist for a new thermostat, water pump, temperature senders, collant change and fix a leak where the inlet water pipe goes into the side of hte block. Also need 2 new tyres (wil leither be Goodyear Eagle F1's or dunlop sport 9000 depending id dunlops are in 195-50-15 and what price they are) and a new battery.. wil llet you guys know hte cost when its done next thursday.. If anyone is local to lincolnshire Ian is a damn good mechanic, reasonable priced and specilaises in VW's ( hes just building himself a mk2 golf G60 with an old corraod engine into a driver chassis, cost him about £1500 so far including getting an ali intercooelr and radiator fabricated...)
  9. My 8 valver C has a water leak and needs a new thermostat, so its off to my lcoal gage / VW specialist for some replacements. Just wondered if its worth having the water pump replaced at the same time. Cooling system is going to all be drained anyway, pump costs about £30 from GSF, only ral cost is labour in moving alternator, power steering pump etc. Current system has done 125,000 miles and doesnt leak. What mileage do these pumps do before breaking down? Bearing in mind my C is being put back on the road to start hammering my 30,000 mile a year commute to work.... Bear in mind all 4 cylinder Corrados use hte same water pump... Cheers, Mark
  10. Why are you taking hte liners out of the arhes?? They slip in from the outside in about 30 seconds..... Smoked ones on my Blackberry C look the mutz...... Golf GTi mk 2 ones.. got them at Inters a couple of years back.
  11. The other odvious point to look at is the head gasket. Go along to your local friendly MOT test station and get htem to use the exhaust analyser on the header tank. If it detects any emmisions then your head gasket is fooked.... A lot of garages also use a colour test to check for dissolved CO, H/C's etc... Sounds exactly like what the g/f's old rover did when it blew the head gasket...
  12. If your loking for a real sprinter i believe hte 8valve C had lower ratios than all the others. Thats why the 0-60 looks so shite cos theres an extra gear change in there cos it wont hit 60 in 2nd....
  13. Blackberry..... Bramble apparently is the name of a special edition paint they used on Golf VR6's, very rare and not made any more by VW apparently... And Blackberry changes colour too.. in bright sunlight... And in the rain...
  14. A guy called Richard ( Cant remember his surname) fitted a Volvo T5 intercooler to his G60 without too many problems i think, he just had to move the radiator back a little bit i think.... At the end of the day ithink you could probaly make just about anything fit...
  15. Its not that bad if you have a car wit hheight adjustable steering wheel, as you can reach the little tiny screws that hold the switch in place with a small bent screwdriver, however if you have fixed steering wheel, you need to pull the collar off the steering column too which IS a pig of a job... and yes, mine is fixed on my valver....
  16. I have a scorpion boxer cat back. It was actually the firs tone scorpion made for a C wit hthe bar hangers, so didnt fit at all when i got it, took the car up to the factory and they built it on the car so fits liek a dream now. SOunds gorgeous, pops like a rally car when changing down when the exhaust is really hot, and sounds seriously fruity when you floor it above 3500rpm. Personally i would like it a bit louder but its good.... Boxer oval tail pipe fits the bumper cut out perfectly. will post some pics if anyone is interested when i work out how to.... lol mark 2.0 8v
  17. Has anyone removed the centre box from a stainless steel exhaust? I have a scorpion cat back system fitted with the boxer tailpipe which i love and sounds great, it even pops like a rally car when its really hot, but its not really loud enough, and no im not a chav type either, im 31 nad work for BP, just want my corrado to be a bit louder. Was wondering about having a centre box bypass made up? Anyone done this, any opinions? Car is a 94 2 liter 8 valve Cheers, Mark
