Hi guys, In my TFSI conversion i have a couple of issues with keeping the power steering on my VR6, as the mk5 has electric power steering the TFSI motor has no PAS pump fitted, i could swap the belt and PAS setup from a 20vT but id rather not mess with the motor as its too "new" and id prefer to keep it virginal ! The electric PAS rack is a nightmare to adapt so that is no good, so i think my best option is to fit a manual rack, not only will it give a more direct feel but it will simplfy an already complex job ! The car wont ever be a "shopping car" so heavy steering @ low speed wont be a problem ! Which manual rack will i need to fit? Im using the mk5 steering column so the fact that a manual rack is lower isnt a problem? Ive checked on ECP and they list a manual rack for a 1992 1.6 carb Passat, but they show no stock! is this the item i need? If so any idea of a supplier ?? Jimmi.....................................

JIMMI'S CORRADO WITH 06 GOLF GTI TFSI RUNNING GEAR
JIMMI replied to JIMMI's topic in Members Gallery
A bit more work done over the past day or two, and a bit of a setback as well !! The TFSI engine WILL NOT fit into the corrado on the original mounts, this is a myth, although the mounting holes are there in the back of the block the turbocharger is in the way of the mounting bracket and all of the oil & water feed pipes to the turbo are right in the way as well. So the solution is to use a new 02M or 02S gearbox from a new golf 5 or a new A3 and fabricate the mk5 mounts onto the corrado chassis legs. Although this is a more difficult solution to fitting the engine it will give a better end result. I really need to find a 6 speed gearbox now as im stuck with out it !! Time to start looking !! JIMMI'S CORRADO WITH 06 GOLF GTI TFSI RUNNING GEAR
JIMMI replied to JIMMI's topic in Members Gallery
Cheers for the pics guys, the blue mk2 is somewhat a hybrid, its definatly not a TFSI, the only bits from a tfsi is the bottom end, the head is from a 1.8T and its running emerald management, is this the car that was in golf + magazine ? Progress, Although im nursing a bit of an injury, and im as busy as fook i cannot bare to see my corrado and a pile of shiny new parts sat in the corner of my garage so ive been working late all week to try and get stuck into my car, i would love it to be ready for the end of april and at this rate i think it could be ! The mk5 dashboard along with the steering comumn support and the complete electronic air con heater box have been fitted, i had to drill the spot welds out of the original corrado dash and column fittings, i have trial fitted all of the clocks stereo etc and everything is fine, i forgot to take a pic when it was all assembled but i took one just beforehand. The centre console is also in, the handbrake is going to have to sit a bit further back so im gonna need some shorter handbrake cables if anyone has any ideas (i may fit a line lock switch). The mk5 pedal box and brake master cylinder is fitted and im getting a mk5 steering column in the morning so that will be goin in 2moro.along with the ABS system & air con pipes. The engine would of been in and fitted today but ive had a problem, as i want to use the rado original mounting points along with a 5 speed box i need to bolt the rear engine bracket to the rear of the block, i thought a normal 16v one would bolt right up however it doesnt seem to be that simple, altho i dont have a 16v bracket to hand ive looked at one on a 91 16v i have parked up and it looks diferent, ill show on a diagram the setup of the holes on the block for the mount to bolt to. TFSI motor mount (rear view) O O] O O 91 16V (rear view) O O O O As ive shown the 16v holes "seem" to be square wheras the TFSI ones are stepped to the side, a picture is below which may show better. im goin to a VW breaker in the morning to have a look @ the back of some motors to see which bracket i need, hopefully this way ill get the motor mounted over the weekend. Cheers mate ill buy that today Progress may be a little slow on the car over the next few weeks, had a bit of a spill on my bike yesterday and ive broke my right thumb !!! You dont realise how important your thumb is until you cant move it !!!!!!! Im gonna get every last part im gonna need ordered etc so i have nothing to stop me when i get better in a week or two, i normally recover pretty quickly (had plenty of practice!!) so i may be able to get a bit of work done !!! Ill update with some pictures, Jimmi............... -
Jimmi do you race your 1/8th??? Check out here if you fancy a blaast: http://northernrc.com/index.php?&CODE=00 Just got myself a Kyosho MP777 8) Hi mate id love to have the time to get into racing again mate but i have too many hobbies, i have raced my 1/8th a bit. Went to a place down doncaster way, (jct 20 or something or another its called) a few times last year and did a few events but the car has'nt even been ran since about june last year. Its a shame as its an absolute flyer, im running a Novarossi 421B with matching pipe. When i bought the motor and car in 05 it was pretty much the best of everything but suppose it will be old hat now. Ive got a TC4 running a brushless setup etc which has never turned a wheel, intended on getting back down too teeside to race that but have never had the time !! Isnt there supposed to be a rallycross track being built @ karting north east in sunderland? i only live 1/2 a mile away from there, ill get some racing done if that materialises ! Good news then mate !! You would never expect a brand new genuine part to be faulty ! As a matter of interest ive got your old thermostat etc here so when you come up next week fetch the one you have just changed so we can look at it against the original one. What temp is at on the motorway now then? Jimmi........... -
Jimmer as i said in my last PM, i have sent the pedal box to you, it went via parcelforce as i said. it wont come immediately normally takes a few days. JIMMI'S CORRADO WITH 06 GOLF GTI TFSI RUNNING GEAR
JIMMI replied to JIMMI's topic in Members Gallery
Cheers for all the comments guys, ive just finished work now and ive had a good few hours on the car, ive stripped all of the interior out of the car and stripped the bulkhead back to its bare self on both sides so i can weld the mk5 bulkhead into it so all the right holes are there for the aircon system etc. The dash has been modded and is trial fitted in the car, it looks amazing, ive had to trim a lot of material out of it to fit but luckily ive got two dashes so this one is a tester. ive had the centre console in and it fits well, my biggest problem is that its looking like im gonna need to move the gearstick back 2 inches or so which is gonne be a bit of a pain as ill need longer cables but if it needs to be done it needs to be done. Ive bought a HID light unit from ebay which im gonna graft into the rado lights, no more crap lights in this car !! Another thing ive decided is to use everything from the mk5 golf the only corrado bits im gonna keep are the gearbox and suspension, im even gonna use the golf pedal box and steering column. Im pleased how im getting on, ive got a lot done in a few hours, away at a wedding 2moro and racing on sunday so ill not get anything done for a few days. Next step is to weld the mk5 bulkhead in and route the wiring loom into the car before fitting the dash and finally fitting the engine. Hopefully the harness, dash and motor will be in by next weekend so i can mock up the air con/ rad pipes etc. then its a matter of pullin the lump out again to paint the bay. Sounds easy !! But its not !! jimmi................... -

JIMMI'S CORRADO WITH 06 GOLF GTI TFSI RUNNING GEAR
JIMMI replied to JIMMI's topic in Members Gallery
cheers for the support guys !! yeah the engine is the GTI engine rather than the GT motor, it runs a turbocharger only. I test drove a golf GTI today at the local stealers, just so i could try the motor out and i was impressed, it was so smooth and quiet, not blisteringly quick but im sure as you guys know it wont stay @ 200hp for long (REVO 285bhp anyone). The donor car i have is some sort of LTD edition judging by the spec, it may be some sort of anniversary model but ill have to look into it, it has the R32 spec leather seats and stuff in along with the bluetooth fone kit, satnav etc and ALL this is planned on goin into the corrado ! Hopefully ill get the lump and everything out of the golf 2 moro and i can then start fitting it into the rado, the rado is sitting there with no motor in ready and waiting ! This will be definatly the first TFSI into a corrado, a bit of raking about and googling found a golf2 in germany which is underway but unfinished but nothing else using the full TFSI set up, i love challenges !!!! I honestly wish i had more time on my hands to branch my business out into doing "interesting" projects on VW's, i suppose i can see what everyone thinks of the finished article here and see if i can find the time to do so. More pictures tommorow Jimmi.................. -
JIMMI'S CORRADO WITH 06 GOLF GTI TFSI RUNNING GEAR
JIMMI replied to JIMMI's topic in Members Gallery
UPDATE TIME Things have changed again for my corrado, i think i must be crazy sometimes but i like a challenge !! Ive sold the Schimmel 3.0 motor along with the SRI, Chargecooler & turbo kit & the TT seats are coming out as well. What am i gonna do ? Well my plan was to go NA R32 but after a month or two of searching for a motor i got itchy feet and started looking at a few other things from a R36 to a 4.2V8 S4 motor but what i found at a local salvage yard changed my mind. I have found a CAT B (break only) 2006 56 plate golf GTI, its the one with the 2.0 TFSI motor DSG box etc. its only done 400 miles. A deal was struck and ive basically bought best part of the car, roughly including, complete interior inc dash etc, complete running gear from intercooler to fuel tank. I started stripping the car out over there but it was a nightmare so 2moro they are dropping the car off at my garage so i can take the bits off i need at my leisure, they are gonna pick the shell up when im done. My plans are to fit the complete loom from the golf along with the dash & seats. The engine is going in along with the ESP and all the air con gubbins, basically it will be a mk5 Golf in a corrado bodyshell, a lot of work but it will be worth it, i started today and i think it will be done in less than 2 months if everything goes to plan. A couple of pics below as a taster !! Jimmi................... -
Waste it on drugs, girls and drink !! thats what i suggest !! Cosmetics and suspension 1st mate, nice paint job etc, then change all the suspension bits to make it drive like new, engine is the least important bit in my eyes, do that when your happy with everything else !! Jimmi...................... Not that i can talk mind !!

Flash red is a lot more orange, the tornado is a more of a redder red if that makes sense, ive got both parked alongside eachother in my garage and there is a lot of difference, personally i think the tornado is a better red but you dont need to stick to rado colours, there are some really nice pearl reds out there, go to a paintshop and look @ the motorbike chips if you want some inspiration !! Jimmi...............

In my opinion the cat D side of it means very little to me neither does the mileage, to be honest when your goin to buy a car your buying the piece of metal in front of you not the records on HPI's computer or the numbers on a digital speedo, I always buy things on face value even service history means nothing as its so easy to forge !!!!! Just my 2 pence worth Jimmi............

Snow sucks mate, im doin as little as possible today as its freezin, had to take the GF to work today and used her car. Snow was about 8" here at 730 this morning, BMW's should carry an anti snow device, i.e they shouldnt start if its snowing ! they are dangerous !! You will see the car mate, im goin to tax it for the meet in april and not advertise it til then as i need to be in a rado for that and with the plans ive got spinning round my head my VR6 aint gonna be ready ! Jim wrote You will one day mate, if i keep ill take it to a few shows and if i sell it im sure it will be an enthusiast who buys it tbh ! Jimmi.......... -
JIMMI'S 89F PLATE 16v PRESS CORRADO-RESTORATION COMPLETE
JIMMI replied to JIMMI's topic in Members Gallery
Well then its 99.9% finished, ive got 3 very minor little things left to do, fit head unit, new wiper stalk, fit pass wing bump strip then its done ! It passed its mot on friday with flying colours (good job after all the work) the mot tester was loving it said he used to steal them when he was younger which filled me with a lot of confidence !! The car is gorgeous and looks just like a brand new car, i have yet to clean it properly but as i had to pull it out of the garage today to move some stuff about i thought id take a few piccies. The work ive done on the car is extensive and i wont go into it here but just about every moving part has been rebuilt and it drives just like it should with no knocks bangs or anything, it drives perfectly straight and is surprisingly quick, it pulled 130mph on friday (on my private test track of course) with ease and pulls strong in all the gears. I have decided what im gonna do with the car and unfortunatly im gonna sell it, i have far too many cars to be able to use it and my other corrado will be used more, i want to keep the car for the northern meet on the 15th april ill be then advertising the car for sale i think around the 3.5 - 4k mark is its value, it has got to be THE best condition early corrado in the country and it has some of the best history of any corrado out there which will certainly add value and desirability !! Ill let the foto's do the talking, any comments will be welcome, the next fine day we have ill be giving the car a bit of a cleaning session and ill take some proper foto's then ! Jimmi................ -
Ive used the search guys and found plenty of information, but its all for converting a 4 stud car to 5 stud not the other way round !!! I just want to check what im planning on doing will work !! Ive put a thread in the engine bay section but its not getting much in the way of replies, my main Q's are in the drivetrain area anyway, ill write them below. My car is a VR6 so its obviously running VR front suspenstion, subframes etc, the engine im goin to fit is a 4cylinder TFSI from a Golf 5 so i know im gonna need a 4 cylinder gearbox and rear subframe along with 4 cyl rear engine mounts (or are VR mounts the same?). However i dont want to use the rest of the 4 stud running gear (wishbones, hubs etc) as the car will run a narrower track etc, can i simply bolt the VR suspension arms, roll bar, rack etc to the 4cyl rear subframe then use the longer VR driveshafts in the 4cyl gearbox?I hope so as all the parts on my car are brand new and i dont wanna replace them with new 16v bits if i can help it !! Chers jimmi........................

Golf 5 GTI TFSI engine into a rado, need a little tech help
JIMMI replied to JIMMI's topic in Engine Bay
If im not too busy on friday mate i should be able to come and give you a hand on friday afternoon if you like, 2 of us should strip that in a crack, have you got it running yet ?? I think the TFSI is a good choice of motor and most importantly its a little different ! I know about the wheel PCD difference on a mk 5 golf but i can use adapters to go between 5x100 to 5x112 which shouldnt be a problem, the brakes are absolutely huge co you think they would fit under a 17" rim? If you could see the guy you and PHATVR6 know about doin the biz on the loom and ecu asap for me that will be ace, my car has been off the road too long now and i want it up and running again !! Jimmi,......................... -
AAArghh ive decided to go down a completely different route to that i first took with my corrado, the 3.0 Schimmel motor was sold and the sale of the turbo kit is immenent. A lot of thoughts have crossed my mind and i originally had my heart set on an R32 conversion but im struggling to find an engine i then thought of a 20vT swap but its been done to death and i like to be a bit of a trend setter and i started thinking about a TFSI engine conversion from a mk5 Golf GTI, the more i thought about it the more it made sense !! Basically the engine is brand new and is 200hp out of the box and a bit of a remap along with the bigger intercooler ill be using would see the car at somewhere near 300hp which im quite happy with. and it will be running on oe management which is a good thing ! I dug out my best detective tools today and ive managed to find and buy a complete engine, loom, ecu, exhaust, DSG box & pedal box all from a 56 plate golf GTI with 400 miles on, best thing its only about 2 miles from my house !!! Now then i have a few questions so if anyone can help me id appreciate it, im gonna get cracking with the install over the weekend and hopefully it should be complete in a week or two ready for the middle of april and show season. 1.} I want to use the original 3 mounting points for the engine, i am assuming i am gonna have to ditch the VR6 subframes and replace them with 16v ones? 2.}Also im not gonna use the DSG box and as far as im aware unless i run the mk5 mounts etc i cannot use a newer 6 speed box so will my O2A VR box fit or will i need to use a one from a 4 cylinder corrado or golf? 3.}If i do use a 4cyl gearbox & subframes can i retain my VR6 driveshafts, bottom arms & 5 stud hubs ??? 4.} I can also get the bottom arms, subframe hubs, shafts brakes etc from the golf, would it be woth my while to fit the engine this way ? so i basically offer the golf front end up into the rado, the brakes look huge and i wouldnt mind them on my car so its basically mk5 front end, and i could fit a mk 5 6 speed box to it if i can do this is there much fabricating to be done ?? Cheers jimmi...........................................

The speeds (ton +) at the beggining of the video arent the best for the bike, tbh something with 4-500hp will stick with an R1 from a ton onwards (i know from experience) but its the 20 - 120 mph range where a bike is the best. i would of like to have seen a 20 mph 2nd gear roll on race on there, still think the veyron would of had it but the difference wouldnt of been as manic !! Back in 2001 when i was bang into my bikes a few of us chipped in to hire elvington runway in york for the day for us to ar$e about pulling wheelies and stuff on video, the dedicated camera car was a 420hp TVR Tuscan, i was riding a 01 R1 @ the time and i was surprised how quick the car was when we where alongside the car pulling wheelies normally dropping the front wheel at about 120-130mph then nailing it the TVR would happily sit alongside upto about 180ish where they both ran out of speed! In a standing start a 1000cc bike (R1 GSXR etc) would easily pull 10 car lengths on the car up to a ton then the gap wouldnt change. It was great bein stupid !!! Jimmi..................
