  1. Borbet A's are still nice, like them with the flush centres, think they suit a rallye or Mk2 golf beter tho. Have a set of 16" Borbet C's sat, they came off my last Golf when i bought it and put my 15's on, keeping them tho as are a classic. Love the Azev A's as well, along with the borbet A's they look best in an 8 or 9" width tho as the dish on the rim looks mental! Big fan of ATS cups and was close to buying a set for my Mk1, got it on 15" steels at the mo as it is not running, they don't look too bad either, suit the car. Speedlines IMO are the best wheel for a C, did they ever do them in a 16"??
  2. I have been with Herts before and a friend with a Golf uses them as well. They always seemed to take ages to get the paperwork and details sorted out and he had to wait ages for his policy details. They seem a bit disorganised IMO. I am with Adrian Flux now and they are pretty good. Everything is sorted out efficiently and they also have a good view towards mods. I enquired about a few things I wanted to do and they were only going to charge me the Admin fee (suspension, wheels, brake mods etc) They give you legal protection and can offer breakdown cover as part of the policy if you want.
  3. Looking good Brian, Still to experience the interior lighting in the dark! Looks good though! The supercharged badge in place of the VR6 badge, I can only think what a top bloke would give you a present like a 100mm supercharged badge.......
  4. Hello Brian, Haven't heard much about the Apex kit as you know but my mate had Apex springs on his car and lets just say they didn't stay on the car, it was Polo 6N as well. Been in a polo with a Gmax kit and good for the money, give me Koni coilovers any time thouigh! :D
  5. Roddy, I know you are "cheap as chips", to quote someone :) so will grace your hands with some silver for the rain stay away dance! :) I know that Brian and I are definately heading down but were not sure what you all were up to, think you might be heading down a bit earlier as we were thinking of meeting about 9ish as it is my day off and need the lie in! Presume you will be going down earlier if not on the saturday, any road can let me know nearer the time and will take it from there
  6. Lets hope the weather is good and it isn't raining, Roddy you can do a rain dance and i'm sure that will scare all the grey clouds away! :D Aye the Limited is a bit different, nice sleeper image! Know the 8V G60's sound good so imagine the 16v can only sound a bit better! Far too many Corrado's at the meet for my liking, ha ha, only funning, it is better than no cars! Looking forward to Kames, Roddy any further on with the plans for heading down? If there is a big group of Corrado's going will just make my own way down and meet you there as big convoy's are far too much of a headache! :)
  7. Hi, didn't check till today so just got your post now, was not too bad a turn out, I take it Skid's was the Red G60? Will hopefully get the Big Driver out for the next one as it is a bit broken recovering in the garage at the moment, hope to have it ready for Kaimes though! :) I take it you were down in the Limited?
  8. 21 at the moment, modded MK Golf Driver, own a Mk1 which i'm doing up for track days and had a Mk1 Scirocco storm when i was 19, superb car, much fun. Roddy, your generation had it easy with insurance did they not?? and was it about that time that all the Hot Hatch's started getting stolen? Need a history lesson :D Some of the boys i know are paying silly premiums for there car. I was quoted £3500 fully comp as the cheapest for my Mk1 with the tuned engine in it. A few years older now though and the car is still not finished. How long to projects take, seems like yesterday i was driving the Mk1 home! Nice car, my dad had one when i was younger and a few friends have them now. They are still paying about £900 TPFT Any of you had any scary quotes?

    Optimax

Hi everyone, The way i thought it worked was that the higher the RON rating the more combustable the petrol, and the more intense the explosion in the combustion chamber. This in turn gives a more powerful spark creating more power. I know for sure that on a standard A3 1.8 20V T, that would usually run on super unleaded, normally from BP, when a couple of tankfulls of Optimax had been flushed through the car, it was keener to rev round towards the red, and also I have found on the cars I have used it in, it does give increased fuel economy over a tankful, driving the same routes every day. In my opinion i don't see why you should put a fuel in that is lower than the manufacturers rating, it is there for a reason, but everyone is different. :) In response to Kevhaywire, the power a car can put out on the rollers can vary very drastically as to the way the car is driven, and also the distance and type of journey it travels each day. A car which is just driven round town, on short journeys will put out less power than a car which drives on a dual carriageway or motorway everyday doing a steady 3500-4000rpm. A friend has done back to back tests on his car on the same rollers, on different days using Optimax, and normal unleaded, and although there was no apparent power increase, on the road the drivability of the car was very different and was definately keener to rev through the gears on the Optimax. Hope this can be of some help?? Cheers, Martin
  10. Cheers Roddy, know that some of the Tyre places aren't too keen on adjusting camber as would like as much negative as possible but it is one to keep in mind and will give them a shout. :)
  11. Hello, new to this forum, was wondering if anyone knows of a good garage in Aberdeen area who can carry out a wheel alignment. The car sits quite low on coilovers and as well as getting the wheels aligned I wanted the camber adjusted as well. Have spoken to Checkpoint who say they can do it but not too sure how well, and also Speacialist Cars who charge a premium for it. It will go to Specialist or down to Star when I have fitted reconditioned front hubs and Tarox discs I am waiting for in probably a month or so, but wanted to get it set meantime to save the new tyres. Also another question slightly off topic! Has anyone fitted a late VR6 Corrado dash in to a Mk2 Golf before as was wondering the parts needed (sensors etc) to allow the digital mileometer to work. Thanks in advance, Martin
