  1. was crawling along in traffic today when the buzzer and light kept coming on intermitantly only for about 1-2 secs at a time. Did it about 6 times just one or 2 beeps then it would go off. Then it went off completely and was fine for the remaining journey home. If it was a actual problem with the oil pressure surely the buzzer would have stayed on for longer than 1-2 secs so does any else agree that it could be down to a faulty pressure sender switch, or any ideas what it could be where are the pressure senders on the engine? oil is topped up fine on the max level of the dipstick cheers tom
  2. yeah could say that i saw urs in tescos car park, spoke to damo bout them he was saying how cheap u can pick em up 4. then bought one about 2 weeks later

  9. fuse !? sounds simple but i always forget the simple things!
  10. how do you use a meter to see is its working correctly?
  11. ah bugger !! knew that would be the case!
  12. are they 4 x 100 or 4 x 108? i know the late escorts are 4 x 108 but thought the early ones were different?
  13. you're probably putting the wrong fuel in it, 92-95p sounds like regular unleaded, and the 16v prefers 97/98 RON or more (check your filler flap label!) it could be pinking like hell around town. 1.8 16v's have pretty poor low end torque, so town driving can really drink the fuel, then lastly as it's so old, there are a host of parts that may be worn and underperforming, not least the injectors. Do you have standard tyre sizes? I run a 2L block with an adjusted warm up regulator and 1.8 16v K-jet system and have never got below 29 to the gallon on a full tank of fuel with mixed driving, however when it was a 1.8 I did get nearer 25/gal when doing loads of town driving. This morning the MFA was reading 42.8 mpg when I got to work, that's a few miles of junctions and round abouts and 15 miles at 70-80 on the motorway, generally the MFA on mine overreads by about 2 mpg on a longish run/tankful. David. my MFA has never gone above 33mpg even on the motorway rolling down hill!!
  14. Hey bally how are ya! damo was sayin ur cars down at tims? I did the timing so thats all good now what other setup can be done? My MFA is showing 26-30 mpg tops around town although i dont think the car is achiving that. And im taking it really easy. I reckon if i give it some im gonna be luckey to get 70/80 miles out of 20 quid. Its standard, just had new plugs, oil etc and its sweet on long journeys which makes me think that something is sticking on as everytime i start the engine the fuel guage goes down more :( . Could the isv be anything to do with it?
  15. Does any1 else think it could be the choke sticking on? how do i test this? cheers tom
  16. i was surprised by 200 miles to £20 too, wasnt expecting that much as i came from a audi a4 tdi but it was busy on the motorway so i just sat in the crawler lane doin 60 - 70mph. Had the car for a couple off weeks now, been on a few long journeys on the motorway and its fine just short journeys it drinks!
  17. doh i alway forget the important bit of info when i post!! its a 1.8 16v
  18. when i go on a long run the car is fine usually get 200 miles to £20 driving carefull on the motorway. when i use the car for short journeys 7 miles to work etc im luckey if i get 100 miles to £20 and thats driving really carefully if i boot it i wont get anywhere near 100 miles. But if i boot it on the motorway ill still get 140/160 miles i know it will use more fuel on short journeys but didnt think this much! is this normal? or could there be something wrong? cheers tom btw fuel costing between 92-95p ltr
  19. sorry 4got to say its the 1.8 16v. Also will the mark be 0 deg so i have to set my gun to 6 deg or is the mark 6 deg on the flywheel so i set my gun to 0?
  20. Ive just put a new oil seal in the dizzy, so wanted to double check the timing is spot on. Ive got a timing light. From what i have found from searches i take the plug thing out (on top of the gearbox) and find the timing mark on the flywheel How do i move the flywheel round to get the mark so i can put a dab of tippex on it, is there an easy way cheers tom
  21. ok cheers, ill order one 2morrow. can any1 give me a very brief what you have to do to get it off? just to give me an idea so i know if i should tackle it myself. Obviously you unclip the cap thats about all i know!!
  22. There was oil all over the engine bay so i jet washed it off to see where it was coming from. Its now clear its coming from the dizzy cap. The car runs fine but theres a lot of oil leaking out ive done a search about this and it apears theres two solutions replace dizzy or the dizzy seal? any1 know what one i need to do? Is the distributor hard to get off? was thinking of getting one from a scrappy cheers tom
