Thanks for the reply supercharged. I've recently done the temp senders and rad elbow (another leak). I didn't realise the charger needs to be removed? I could see that there was a bracket in the way (power steering I think), just thought it was a case of moving that and removing the pump out through the bottom. Starting to think it's falling into one of those "wish I hadn't started it jobs". Food for thought. Ta ST

Hi Had my G60 up today to try and find the coolant leak. It looks like it's coming from the water pump iteself, probably the gasket between the pump and the housing. It's difficult to see when antifreeze is dripping in your eye. :( I'm gonna have a bash myself. Seeing as they are quite cheap is it a good idea to do the pump at the same time? I might as well do the stat and housing as well (not 100% sure it works perfectly) Will also change the black pressure cap for a blue one and change the expansion tank for a new one so I can see the level easily. Can you think of anything else I should change when I'm down there? Should I get all the bits from VAG or is it okay to get it all from GSF/AVS? Finally, how much G12+ should I buy? Ta ST P.S. Any advice on doing this would be greatly appreciated. I like to do stuff myself but find it difficult when doing new repairs for the first time.

Thanks, I'll give that a go. just had one of those weekends when everything you touch definately does not turn to gold. :( And I just couldn't take another balls up. Cheers ST

Hi I've got the DDI Aluminium rings from the group buy and am finding it really tricky to stick them in. The plastic that they fit into is heavily chamfered and the rings are a straight cut so there is no real connection between the sides. I've tried gluing the underside edge but there's not a lot of room with the chamfer there and I don't want to end up with a gluey mess. Any clues to how you did it? Ta ST

Okay. Just want to check I've not been given a duff blue sensor. With the old sensors on the car and a water temp of 90 degrees, I put the black connector on the blue sensor and got no temperature reading at all. So this would indicate to me the blue sensor is dead. With the new blue sensor on the car I put the black connector on the blue sensor and the temperature gauge moved a little but didn't reach even 70 degrees let alone the 90. Is this normal? Or have I been given a bad sensor? Hope you can understand what I've done, I'm just trying to test the new blue sensor works. I had to read it twice myself to work it out. :) Ta ST

Thanks Think I'll try another stealers just to be sure. I asked about tumblers and springs also, but was told you have to buy a big bag of the things now for over £40. Pretty steep but a small price to pay to have all the locks the same. Why oh why does my 'Corrado to do' list keep getting longer when I spend all my time sorting her out? Madness, pure madness. ST

I'd be interested. Might encourage me to put the dials in I've had for 3 months. :D ST

Hi I just asked my local VW parts person if I can get an original key cut for my car, don't have the code but could supply him with chassis number etc. He said my C is too old for that now and they can only copy the keys I already have. This is not really an option as the keys are old and worn. Can someone please confirm if this the case with all dealers or just mine? Ta ST

Hi My car will randomly rev up to 2000rpm when idleing. Sometimes it's fine other times it's a real pain (Imagine stopping to let a group of horses and riders pass by and the car revs it's nuts off :D ). It also holds the revs between gear changes but this is more rare. Once up to temperature neither problem occurs at all. I stopped the car when I got home this afternoon and popped the bonnet. It was idleing quite high at 1300 rpms. I unplugged the blue temperature sensor and the revs dropped a little, I then plugged it back in and the revs went down to 850rpm. Does this suggest that a new blue temp sensor should be bought? I cleaned the ISV out a few weeks ago but it didn't help even though it was really dirty. What do you think? Ta ST

MOT Fail. Can you check the price of my quote please?
Saint Tricky replied to Saint Tricky's topic in General Car Chat
It's not cheap down soowwf is it? My local garage charge us cost price for parts but are £50 plus VAT per hour. I'll have to ring around tomorrow. Would call up the Phirm as they have a cheaper hourly rate and are top quality but they are always really busy and I need it done by the end of next week. ST -
Hi Car failed it's MOT today. 2 points. Offside front anti roll bar link bush excessively worn. Nearside read bonded suspension bonding failed. I've been quoted £48 parts and £200 labour (3 1/4 hours) I'm gonna call around in the morning but just wondered if someone in the know could tell me if this is a decent ballpark figure. Thanks ST P.S. Had a few little advises but all in all was fairly happy with the rest. I was really worried about the emissions but passed easily with 0.8 CO and 82 HC.

Picked up the jets today and from a prelim' look it seems like a no go. I'll either try and get some that fit the scuttle panel or just wrap the tube around the wiper for a temp fit. ST

Hello again Car was first registered on Jan 1992 so is before the August cut off point fortunately. I'm always a glass is half empty guy when it comes to cars (I'm beginning to think this attitude is well suited to C's), mainly because all of my MOT's always seem to cost about £350. Also, the first MOT with a car is always worrying. Anyway, will look out for that stop smoke thing in Halfrauds. Not that my car does smoke at all. :D Cheers T

Hi Dubby I know the limit is higher for cars registered before August 1992 but I thought my chances were evens considering the cats been removed and the engine mods. Really hope it goes through easily as I have lots of bits to do to her in the coming months. Fingers crossed. ST

Hi Got my G60 booked in for a MOT next week. Do you have any tips on how to keep the emissions down for the test. I've booked a specific time so will make sure the engine is hot before I arrive. What petrol should I fill up with, 95 or 97? Should I use any additives? Bit worried about the test really, rather go to the dentist than put my car through a MOT and that's saying something. :-P Cheers ST

Thanks VR6 South. Went to my local VW stealer this morning and checked out the cars on the forecourt. Found a 2003 Golf with the washer jets you mentioned so went in and ordered a pair. Will probably be a right pain to fit but you never know unless you try. I can always zip tie the tube to my wipers for a temp MOT pass while I work out how to fix the jets. Thanks ST
-
Went to MOT tester today and he confirmed that no jets is a fail. I'm interested in this. Is it only the mkV Polo that has them or do others as well? I'm not up on my Polo's, what year are the MkV's? Ta. ST P.S. Will look around the supermarket car park tomorrow to see if I can see some others.

Thanks for the replies. Looks like I'll have to pull the car from the MOT then. I delved into washer wiper combo's when I first got the car, mainly because I wanted the washers back on (coz they're pretty useful really) but susequently forgot all about it until now. I'd like to have the jets on the wipers but that's made a bit more difficult having the aero wiper arms fitted. Aero wiper washer jets anyone. :D ST
-
Hi I've got my 1st MOT with my C coming up and am a little worried about something. The washer jets have been removed from the bonnet, the holes have been filled and painted etc. So I don't have any washers, is this an automatic fail? It's passed at least 3 MOT's in this guise before but knowing my luck I'll get stung if it's not kosher. What do you think? Ta ST

New Uprated 80% brighter H4 Bulbs (Standard Wattage)
Saint Tricky replied to Yandards's topic in Exterior
Not as easy as it should be but if you do it properly (as I didn't) and remove the lights first then its a 2 min job. ST -

Don't want to continually hijack but I've found the height adjustment but not the left/ right adjustment screw, do you know where I can find it? ST -

Your quite right. I just did the usual male thing of checking the manual after the job is done and removing the headlamp is the way to go. First car I've ever seen this on, not a good idea really as the allignment will be mucked up just for changing a bulb. Learn something every day. :) ST -

I went the Halfords way this week and they are much brighter than my oems. That's with an uprated loom as well Had loads of trouble trying to fit them though. Bloody springs fell out and after ripping my hands to shreds trying to get everything back in, I gave up and took the headlights off of the car. 10 secs later the bulb was replaced, made the job a lot easier. Why oh why aren't the springs permanently captive hinged like every other car I've done before? Anyway, done now. ST -
The height adjusters on mine are thumb screws on the back of the lights near where the multiplug fits. Don't need a screwdriver, they are shaped like four pronged wing nuts and you can just move them with your fingers. T

Hi Whre can I find the headlight adjustment screws to move the light beam from left to right? I've found the height adjuster but can't seem to find the left to right one? Ta ST
