Noisy belt/pullies on 92 G60 (Still having problems)
claire.major replied to claire.major's topic in Engine Bay
Morning! Just checked the plastic pulleys and both are not free moving (wont even do a complete spin if I try by hand) but neither are making noise by hand but when I started the engine I put Wd40 on the belt tensioner and nothing changed, then tried the pulleys and it stopped immediately and was good for ages. Im assuming I need 2 pulleys? Just spoke to local dealer and they are £20 each. Does the above sounds right? Thanks (again) -

Thanks for all the replies. Given me a few things to try, Ill look at the pullies first and if no joy maybe try a VW belt and then the cam belt tensioner! -

Cool, sounds like Im getting a plan together in my head. Last couple of questions, how do I slacken the cam belt and how would I remove the charger belt? -

Ok, well that sounds ok. My day tomorrow is sorted then. Couple more questions (sorry!!) how do I remove the rollers and the cam belt tensioner. Would I need to remove the belt first? -

Charger serviced 10k miles ago so that should be ok, deffo sounds like a pulley (roller) and listening again really does seem to be one of them. How easy are they to change? -
OK, sorry if this is a repost but I have searched and found answers to similar questions but I thinkg I need details and resolutions explained in a bit (read lot) more detail. Basically there is a noise like a belt scraping/rubbing from the charger pulley (I think although its hard to pin point the noise, deffo from that aera) and I really would know where to start with a pulley/belt replacement so if someone could explain what the problem is, what I need to check and how to rectify that would be superb and I would be forever in their debt! Thanks Claire

Thanks for all the nice comments. Im just so glad the Rado is always garaged, think it would actually physically hurt me if I had too keep it outside in the rain etc. Dont think Id be able to sleep either worrying if it got damaged (how sad!!) -

Just changed the valve on out GTI and tis a very very easy job with a lot less coolant loss then I thought, just got the air out of the system and ready to go, sweet. -

We got ours for £24 with mates rates discount :D . Was advised to depressurise the system before removing anything or starting the replacement so may be worth bearing that in mind to! -
Wrote of my G60 last night. 2nd offer from insurance -page 3
claire.major replied to 2_Door_fun's topic in General Car Chat
We have an agreed value of £3k on our G60, its the only way to go with classics. Had the same on our old Splitty as on paper it was not worth much (was an old 65 with plenty of Patina and original) but had to insure it for £10k as that what it would cost to buy another. Had to get a friend from the SSVC (Split Screen Van Club) to do the valuation for them to agree to before they would accept the value tho! -

Yeah its about £25 - £30 and although the risk is very very slim I wouldn't risk it! -

You can actually get the actual bypass valve from Volkswagen now, Im picking mine up tomorrow to fit to our Mk2 GTI daily (im guessing its the same set up as a mk2 Golf as int he pics above). Not sure if all the stories about heater matrix exploding due to it being overloaded etc are true but for £25 Id rather not risk it! -
How reliable, expensive?? I am pondering
claire.major replied to iow_corrado_g60's topic in General Car Chat
Hi Probably gonna be this car which recently finished on ebay!! clicky We looked at them before gettin our Rado, so stupidly quick with either 2.2 10v Turbo or 2.2 20v Turbo!!! Expensive to run, parts are crazy prices but so sexy and quick! Thats about as far as my knowledge goes and thats probably a little sketchy!!! Edit: Link shortened - dinkus -
Right, I need to change the water pump on the G60 today. Ive searched on the site for details on what to do etc (remove charge and alternator then move PAS pump out of way) but I just wanted to check if there is anything else I need to bear in mind? Any hints or links to a guide would be ideal. Will the timing need doing? When buying the water pump should I buy anything else (Nuts, bolts, seals etc?) Thanks so much

Hello there, i saw you in your Corrado yesterday i think? Driving down the Aylsham Road? Would probably have been between 1 and 2 around where Smith and pinching is?? -
OK, the sheared bolts will not be coming off from underneath soI either need to get access to the top and remove that way or replace the water pump? Is there a thread anywhere detailing how to access/remove the water pump or could someone detail it for me (if its not to much to type?!!) Cheers

Nice to see so much appreciation of air cooled on the forum. The split was an awesome car, I have never had so many looks while driving a car. Long journeys were a pain tho as pretty uncomfortable and not too quick but when you arrived at a show and not putting up tents or worrying about the weather, that was the best! Did have plans etc (turbo etc to run 14 sec quaters) but they can be a money pit. Had a few offers of cars for swaps (Rx7, numerous air cooled and Golfs)but so chuffed we made the deal we did. -

I think a Karmann Ghia will be our next car, after the G60. Or a 50s yank pic up.....but we are loving the G60 so much at the moment it may be a car that we keep longer then the usual year to 18 months!!! Stan 24v we wive in Taverham at the moment, just moved from Old Catton. -
Few things to try so thanks. One piece of good news, boiled the 2 thermostats. The new one (after thinking nothing would happen) opened and the old one did not move, v happy with that as should solve the overheating issue! Ill let you know how I get on with the bolts and pump!
