  1. Yep, Im am in the same boat as millions of people, getting in the passenger side and climbing over. Need a Drivers side repair kit if possible Dave. PM me the details and Ill paypal you the cash later. Claire
  2. Awesome. Think a Aircooled appreciation/picture thread needs to be started!!
  3. Notches & Fastback rock in this repect too eh Claire? ... all your tools under the bonnet still leaves a decent boot in the back...(that'll confuse some!) Hell yeah, we had a 65 Notch and it rocked. Only problems was it was 100% original and immaculate that we never dared take it out! Saw a nice square on Volkszone the other day and was tempted but a quick run out in the G60 soon got rid of the temptation!
  4. Been there with the aircooled, only bonus of having a splitty was the amount of room to keep every tool I owned!! Will have to agree with the VTR/VTS thing. We just bought a Xsara VTS for our daily (it was veyr cheap) and it is rapid, passive rear steering too so handles very well. Just gonna slam and maybe mess around with the throttle body, ECU and managment and have some fun!!
  5. All sorted at last. Took longer then expected due to numerous nasty bolts but got there. All good and run it to Big Bang and back (from Norwich) without issue. Thanks for all the help on this thread.
  6. Just worked out where im going wrong. Got confused about the 3 allen bolts as the 3 allen bolts holding the pulley on have been replaced with normal hex bolts. Unfortunately some numpty has used bolts too large that there is no room to get anything round or over them (they sit touching the round thing in the middle) Joy oh joy
  7. Been reading everywhere about this. Ive got the 3 allen bolts out but cannot move the 3 bolts near hte middle, there is no way to get anything round or over them? Please help, I need this doen asap for Big Bang!!
  8. Cool, now sorted. Last question. How ever do I get the pulley off the old water pump?
  9. Irwin bolt grippers are possibly the best invention ever. Charger....off Alternator....off Charger bracket.....off Water pump......how do I remove and reattach the pipes with the crazy metal cips on. Cant budge em. Other then that I think Im sorted.
  10. Cool, thanks alot. As usual this forum and its users are an absolute god send Cheers
  11. Morning was looking at the Bolt Grippers and they look like the thing I need but I think I need a 12mm one but they do not seem to do that size. Would a smaller one (ie 7/16in) need to be hammerd on then turned? Cheers
  12. Thanks for the reply, thought that may be the best approach. Ive left it soaking all night so hoping it may have freed up a little for the assault this monring!!
  13. Morning. Right, started the waterpump replacement yesterday and encounted immediate problems. On the charger removal I was trying to loosen the 4 6mm allen bolts around the charger pulley and the bottom one was so old and rounded the allen key was no use, tried a socket piece over the top (worked on one of the othher bolts) but this also did not work. Any suggestions? Thanks in advance.
  14. Cool, well you are in the know so Ill get one sorted. Thanks for your help. Right......search time......water pump replacement.
  15. I dont know, the water pump pulley has the PAS pulley on uit as well doesn't it as its not this one, its the large pulley to the immediate right of it.
  16. OH and I dont know if it should but does not spin freely! Thanks
  17. By hand there is NO whining or squeeking, kinda like a low rumble noise
  18. Hi again!!! Relaced the 2 plastic pulleys and still happening. Just had a play around and the large bottom crank pulley (the one next to the water pump pulley) is very noisy when turned over by hand. Could htis need tightening, replacing etc. Also is the name for it the bottom crank pulley or did I just make that up?!!! Cheers
  19. OK, got the boost return delete mod and the blanking plate on the charger is just bolted on and I was wondering if there should be a gasket or some sealant on it to seal it properly? (well I guess a gasket as I spray lubricant every month and sealant would be a pain!!) Cheers
  20. Quality. Im sure MOT testers do have sympathy with Classic Veedub drivers. Its just nice to drive in to a MOT station and see everyone shake their head at the ratty, slammed bus but when the MOT is done everyone comments on how solid and sound it is. Kinda wish we still had the bus!
  21. Think if you can rig up any kinda washer thing it should pass. When we took our 1965 Splittie for an MOT we didn't have anything washerwise (the washer bottles are so expensive) so we got a washing up liquid bottle, put water in it and connected it with pipe and gaffered it all up. Was manual but it passed. The MOT testers did give us some funny looks tho
  22. Yeah I got 2. I loosened the belt so I could tell what the problem is. Kept expecting it to start up again whilst driving but it didn't! Just started raining here so will start once the weather clears up!
  23. Got the pulley, £22 from VW so all ready to go. Only thing is, now I had a play around the noise has stopped and I just ran the car 40 miles and still no noise!! Do I change it now (since I know what Im doing?) or wait till it starts again?!!
  24. PS I can see how you remove the pulley at the bottom of the little shock absorber thing but I cannot see anyway to remove the other pulley? How is this done?
