  1. Hi everyone, some advice please as im having a bit of a nightmare! Full re-spray 2 months ago, new lights, windscreen, cars looking stunning. Driving down the a38 behind a white van (04 plate) at a safe distance and the vans drivers window exploded! Just blew out throwing hundreds of sharp cubes of glass at my car. Like someone throwing a bucket of marbels at me at 60mph! He pulled over as did i behind him on the hard sholder, checked he was ok, he was fine. Looked at my car and i was horified, approx 20 chips down to the primer on the bumper, 20 on the bonnet, also got the roof, both wings, both mirrors, down the drivers door, windscreen had appros 8 chunks out of it, headlight cracked, indicators and fogs have took a battering two with loads of little chips out of them. The bloke in the van had no explanation and called his boss. The boss told him to give me all the insurance details and that its insured and to give them a call in the morning. Called them friday morning, logged the claim, explained the damage, they said thats all fine and someone will call you back monday morning to arrange an inspector to come out. I called them back this morning, spoke to an advisor from the insurance company and according to him as there was no neglegence involved (it wasnt the van drivers fault) they will not pay out for the damage to my car! Argh! What a nightmare! Worst part about it is my car was due to be photographed to go in a magazine in 6 weeks! Has anyone else had a similar problem? Is the insurance company trying to fob me off? Shall i go to the papers, is it worth me bringing out the big guns? Thanks very much in advance! Andrew
  2. Hi People, Braught my g60 in jan last year, i was very happy with it, learning all about it and getting it perfect befor starting to sensibly mod it. It was getting very close to being mint standard condition in the summer last year. Then i started hearing a sort of clicking / ticking noise coming from the d-side wheel arch when i was letting it cool down (ticking over) for 2 mins after i had driven it which is what i do all the time. The noise was very regular but at small intervals, for example it may make the noise every 5 secconds for a minute, then every 2 secconds for a minute. I booked it in with my local vw specialist but before the apointment came round i was gentally accelerating away from a roundabout and it just died, wouldnt accelerate, no power, struggled to turn over. Got it to the vw specialist and after waiting a while it was descoverd that the key way / woodruff key that held the cam pully onto the crank had worn and knocked the timing out massively. I had the engine removed and replaced the whole engine with one out of another car that i brought off ebay and i was going to re-build the broken one (its still in my garage half done) when the new engine went in i paid for a new clutch, belts, hoses, seals, clips, AND A NEW KEY WAY (brand new from vw) to go on my new engine. This was obviously quite expensive including labour to take old out and put new in especially with the cost of the donor engine on top. It was finished and i was very happy, smooth as silk, i have since done loads to the can including full interior re-cover, full re-spray, other mods and its going to g-works this sat! But the nigthtmare noise is back and sounds very very similar! the one i started to hear 3 days befor it died. I thought he replaced all the parts, surely it wouldnt have worn a brand new one again? I dont exactly thrash it round everywhere and it gets treated very very well. Called the specialist, hes going to have a look / listen on thursday, but obviously im rather worried. My questions are, does anyone know anything that i dont about this problem? What else could the noise be? What are my rights if it has worn again, he does carry a 2 year warrenty on all work? What have your experiences been with this problem? Any advise much apriciated everyone! Andrew
  3. wow they do look nice! I really want mine done now (bank accounts gonna take a further bettering soon then) Oh yeah same guy, where is he based and do any of you still have his number, if he has done both of yours he can do mine. 99% going to chatsworth! Gonna be some nice photo oppertunaties there! Looking forward to it
  4. Yeah cheers mate that would be good, still looking into getting them mirror polished while im stripping the 5 or so layers of paint off them, they are nearly down to the bare alloy now but need to decide about the mirror polishing and get that done before i have them sprayed obviously. Theres a meet next weekend, cool, is that the same chatsworth that im thinking of, not been the for years and years though, where abouts is this? Is it called chatsworth house or something? If its the same one as im thinking of all be going, we can have a chat about it there.
  5. Wow, they look awsome g60greeny, bet they looked very nice with a red car, mine is also tornado red, had full hit 2 months ago. I think iv allmost decided im getting that done to them! what were they like to maintain / keep that finish, what do you have to use and how often?
  6. Hi everyone, i have brought a set of borbet a's off the net as iv nearly finished my g60 progect and wanted to get some nice origenal deep dished borbets on. They arnt in bad condition, they have been rubbed up against a few cerbs in their time and had about 29 coats of paint but are solid are round (not bent or buckled) so i am now in the process of stripping all the paint with thinners and cleaning them up ready for sanding and spraying with a nice smooth shiney silver. But i wouldnt mind having the dishes mirror polished and some advice on this would be great as i know nothing about it really. How much its costs to have done, how it is to maintain, ect. I called one company and they wanted £200 for the 4, is this to expensive? Would you advising it for my daily driver? Thanks very much guys
  7. **borbet center cap update** The cheepest i can get the alloy for works out at approx £6.50 per cap (this is because i will have to buy them 12mm thick so dad can machine the recess depth into them for the bolt to sit and thats a lot of alloy) i am looking into buying 1 large piece of alloy, in a cilinder shape so then my dad can cut it into 12mm segments (like chopping a carrot) but with that i will get alot of material loss (the filings that end up one the floor off the saw blade) so im looking into that to see which option is better / cheeper for us, watch this space. Leon, dads spoke to the cnc manager at his place, the cnc machines are running 24 hours a day, they have 3 machines and each one has about a 2 month back log of work for it, and to do the design on the alloy that you want it would take a long time to do as the design would have to be programed into the computer from scratch and cut 4 times so unfortunatly i dont think it will be possible to do yours mate, really sorry but you are probably better off buying them from borbet. Really sorry i couldnt help you out Leon, Andy
  8. The sheets will be 11 mm thick (that size so my dad can create the depth of the bit where the lock sits in, all the rest of it will be milled back to the same depth as the origenal, basically a hand machined exact copy of the origenal, the origenals are moulded) they will be at least as strong as the origenals, and no where near £69.00 otherwise there would be no point in me and my dad doing it for the benifit of borbet owners. Yeah thats cool leon if you want to do that, have you got a quote for that to be done (out of interest) Ok ill get a price for the alloy today and the best (most cost effective) amount to buy, probably have to buy enough to make like 5 sets to get the buy in bulk discount, then thats more saving's that i can pass on. I will obviously aim to get them as cheep as possible, off the top of my head without knowing what price i can get the alloy for (thats the job for later) id say £45 a set is quite possible, maybe less. Watch this space
  9. Just spoken to dad and gave him a hexagonal cap and a few pics of flat ones, he had a good look at it, i told him what we want. He started talkin some engineering industry jargon and it looks good. He'll be using manual milling machines and making each cap by hand from a pice of 11mm thick alloy, that will be taken back to the 4mm thickness appart from the part where the bolt sits, which will also be hand machined to get them perfect, all exactly the same size, ect ect. Just need to think about prices for materials, ect. Going to get a price for the alloy sheets tomorrow (he dont use alloy at his place) so i can decide if its feasable, how much are we willing to pay for them so i can start pricing it all up? Bare in mind they are all being hand made to the best quality, ect ect. They are going to be good cos they are going on my wheels. Leon - (dont worry iv not left you out mate) my dad is going to have a word with the cnc expert at his place tomorrow to see if we can sort you out with your "posh diamons shapes in" ones. So lets have a think about a price guys
  10. Hi g60 greeny, i want some two! and it seems we are not alone. There are a set of 4 on ebay, brand new but they want £69 for em, which i think is a bit steep. I have looked arround all the other obvious places, only thing i aint done yet is rang round the borbet dealers and asked, but i assume they will want similar sort of money for them. If i aint found any by the weekend im going to go round my dads and ask him to do me a favour. Hes a precision engineer (makes nuclear sub components) so im sure he will be able to handle it with pleanty of pictures, measurements from my current hexagonal centers and some strict instructions. Ill run it past him at the weekend and see what he says, just to get an idea, would anyone else be interested in a set? Ill also take him a picture of yours leon and see what he says about putting the diamonds in, what do you all think?
  11. Hi mate, iv got some hexagenal centers if you want to swap for your smooth ones, ill also throw in some brand new never fitted borbet center badges i have recently brought for them, reason is i have the borbet a's and wanted the smooth center, let me know mate, regards, Andrew
  12. I would prefer the bottom pic but with some 7.5 j's up front instead of the 9's (keeping the 9's on the back) Iv just brought a set of 7.5 j's all round, they are now at the paint shop being re-furbed! Dont suppose anyone wants to swap two 7.5 j's for two 9'js if you have the same thoughts as me, plus cash your way!????
  13. Thanks for that flusted! Iv now removed cc, got a piece of 3" ending in the same place but as im on standard bumper theres no where to put the pipe that isnt behing the grille - diddnt wonna put it there as the pipe would run about an inch away from charger pulley which is a bit to close for me. So i have a 90 degree bend on the end of the pipe and strapped it next to the air duct for the brakes (diddnt want to cut into that duct as want the brake to get as much air as poss) but made it sit a little lower, it prob is about 6 inches from the floor. Im running air box with k and n panel filter and drilled it directly above where the pipe ends. Does what iv done sound ok? And with the ice hockey accident, i only had that major one in 4 years, a 17 stone player landed ontop of me after a dodgy tackle and my arm ended up under my back the wrong way with 17 stone of player on top of me, i stood up, looked at my arm and my thumb was touching my elbo on the same arm, wasnt very nice, But any way nice work with the cast modding flusted, get some go faster stripes!
  14. (in my standard bumper that is) cheers
  15. Ahh, i snapped my arm a few years ago playing ice hockey and it was a cast that included the thumb bit, it drove me mad not driving my car (which was a g40 back then) so i cut the thumb part of the cast off with a junior hacksaw blade, all good untill i went back to have the cast off and got "told off" by the nurse who took it off proporly. But id probably advise using a normal size hacksaw blade for your leg cast. Would you advise me to locate the other end of the hose behind that little grille in the lowar bumper?
  16. As you look like you are a pro in this area, it nearly looks as good as my new dyson!
  17. Very nice work mate! Iv just brought a length of 3" pipe, a k and n panel filter, some engine bay de-greaser, a stiff paintbrush, and some zip ties today to do the carbon canister removal mod on my g60, drill the bottom of the air box, treat it to the k and n and a good engine bay clean and get a cold air feed to the bottom of the box, question is, is there anything i need to know when removing the carbon canister, do i just leave the hoses open or blank them off that led to the canister? and whats the best way to fix the other end of the pipe to the back of the lower grille under the bumper? Is this the best place to put it? Thanks in advance,
  18. Hmm, i dont think iv ever scene anything quite like that on 4 wheels! It looks like he coverd it in super glue and ram raided motor mania (cheep crap version of halfords) and, i count 3 air intakes, one on the roof! I doubt the engine would need that much air if it was doing 300 mph, and if that was possible, they would have blew off at about 200. What, he diddnt put them on because he thought they looked good did he? Oh well, each to his own i suppose. Silly lad
  19. Hi mate! Just a few junctions down from me! So has anyone got any ideas about dates, times and locations for this notts meet then?? I wonna show my new paint job off!
  20. Ahh i see, good luck with it mate! No worries, its allready got your name on it!
  21. WHOOPS! pressed tab with my elbow by mistake while reaching for the cup of tea and pressed return with the other hand at the same time (to start new sentence) which tabbed to submit, lol. any way, Kick Up The Rs, nice colour mate! bet it looks well through the windows with that cream leather! shawshankkid, your about 5 mins from me (down the a38 with no traffic) im just on the outskirts of sutton near the fire station, cant believe there is another 60 so close to me. Yeah thats cool with me mate, name a time and place. Would be good to swap tips, (or you tell me some) and hear another g60 as iv only ever heard mine! Oh and where did you get your wipers as they are one of the final things on my list! Are they the ones of ebay or off a lupo, im not sure which ones to go for? Oh and with the charger and jabba, when i did this (it was one of the first things i did to the car a year ago) i diddnt know of any other company who did anything to the superchargers, thanks for the heads up about g-werks, allthough i have since found out about them and that they are very good. Only two weeks ago i spent a while on the phone with rob (i think) really helpfull bloke, i brought some of the final few things - k and n filter, belt to go with my 68 pulley (instaed of changing the damper) and an rsr outlet. I think gwerks is where i will be spending my hard earnt in the future two. daves16v, sorry to hear its off the road - ill save my passenger seat for ya mate! Its great to hear from so many local owners! Thanks for writing! Lets hear from a few more and get this meet organised!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  22. wow they are coming out of the woodwork arnt they! i dont think iv seen any of you about, allthough i did go up to mfn?? a while ago, (like 3 months) and spotted a very clean looking yellow one (g60) with black wheels with chrome rims, i had a look round the surrounding groups of people for someone who looked like they were the owner for a quick chat about it but couldnt find them. Was that you mondy??? i had my camera with me that night and got a nice photo of it (hope you dont mind) its still on my cpu actually! There cant be that many yellow ones arround at all now? If it is yours ill stick it on this thread if you want, (when i work out how) it is a cool pick, its kind of jumping out the darkness. Thanks mondy, its getting there now, especially with the full re-spray that its been having all week! Been up to the bodyshop today and was very impressed, i could have had a shave in it. They said it would be built up and will have recieved the final hand polish by saturday, i cant wait! Yeah id be well up for a notts meet two, iv never seen more than two corrados in the same place. Just name the time and place guys! Blackvalver, get back in a rado soon mate. Kick Up The Rs,
  23. Hi mate, thats even closer, like 5 miles! me and my rado arnt feeling so lonely now! So you are hucknall way then i take it???
  24. ps. Yeah pics on the way when i take some nice ones and work out how to put them on here!
  25. Hi mate! Nice to hear from someone only about 20 miles from me! im just off J28. Is there any meets or shows any time soon do you know thats near us?
