Got some info on heat valve thing.... by-passing with pics!
Mancorr replied to Mancorr's topic in Engine Bay
It will fit straight in mate. Easy job, just a reverse of what i put in pics. I dont know the part number (i will find out though!) but they are £30 from a dealer but be prepared to wait for it to arrive! You will loose some coolant whilst replacing the pipes for by-pass so be ready with some anti-freeze and water and to bleed the system afterwards....leave on idle for 20 mins with expansion lid off whilst giving the big hoses around the rad' massage....lucky hoses! Excellent forum :) There is a paypal option to keep it alive and running to which im making a payment as this has to be the most helpful car forum i have been on :D -

I dont think it can be carried out safely mate! One way is how its shown in pics, its a cowboy job so there is no correct way. When they first came out there were 2 hoses with no by-pass but the recall had them all fitted in due to matrix going pop and if the engine was over 100c was going to leave some major burns to the feet. I know i have carried this mod/bodge out but its only to last 2 weeks until my new by-pass arrives as cannot drive with cold air blowing and misty screen!! Saying that the mod has only made my heating warm....going to do a complete system flush tom' before 2pm as its MK meet! -
I did the bodge job and used copper piping to replace my matrix by-pass thing as my VW dealer has ordered me a new by-pass but said i could be waiting for upto 2 weeks :( Anyway after the operation i left the car running for about 15 mins and coolant started flowing out the expansion tank (lid off by the way!!) I have then felt top rad hose which is hot, bottom rad hose is warm. Heating in car now works but only warm, better than cold which it was before operation. Have i bled the system correctly....also why is the heating in car only warm? MFA reading was 106c so should be nice and hot air i would have thought :? I checked the search and not found anything relating to bleeding after this mod/bodge!

My exhaust is blowing from the back box and up front somewhere....not manifold though! How much are exhausts for 1.8 16v Corrado's, any recomended places for good prices? Im not after one of these big loud exhausts, just a standard one. Thanks in advance for any help Paul :)

It came down to a distorted right tyre. I took it to a tyre centre after the mechanic had charged me £40 for telling me this and they put a Yoko tyre on for £45. It feels better in a straight line but still not happy going round a r.bout. I called the mechanic up to tell him this, he said he checked the suspension and in his eyes it was all ok apart from distorted tyre....he did admit to not taking the car for a run.....surely he should have taken my car out?

That pic was from a Golf GTI MK2 16v. Heater matrix exploding due to mod......dont like the sound of that! £25 for a new one from VW is cheaper than i thought, i thought they were around £40? -
i was fed up with poor heaters so i took the plunge in the modification. it was quite easy really... youll need two small lengths of 22mm copper tubing (about 4in and 5in) a screw driver some water and anti-freeze heres what you have to remove: heres what you put in its place: the finished look this modification WORKS A TREAT, the heaters are UNBEARABLY hot too!! i'll keep ya posted if my heater matrix goes, as its the original one from 1990 Hope this is of help. I will be trying this mod tommorow or Saturday. Will keep all posted on how it goes!

Here it is!! This is the thing i need to by-pass or could just replace
-
Its some sort of valve thing.....will take a pic of it in a mo'. Mechanic said it could be by-passed. I have heard of a few people doing this on Golf GTI 16v's.
-
My car is in with mechanics and they have said that the matrix, water pump, thermostat are all ok. Its the by-pass valve thing that sits at the top of engine bay that is causing me to have no heat :( Ive heard that this valve thing can be by-passed with some copper tubing? Any ideas on this....if it can then what size copper pipe do i need and do i need a T piece bit of tubing? Any advice would be great as im driving with 12 layers of clothing on

Its going in to a local garage tommorow so will/should know by tom' eve.

There is a fair bit of play in the wheels mate.
-
Thank you for that mate. Only had my Raddo for over a week, bought it on e.bay. The tyres look ok and wheels ok. All tyres are 195/50/15's. I dont know if this is anything to do with it but at speeds when brakes are applied the brakes make a horrible grinding noise and the car takes ages to stop!! I just felt the discs and there is a big lip around the outside??
-
Thanks David Only just read your reply! Im about all day as have no work today! Im 2 mins away from you as at my girlfriends in Beanhill....i know mate, Beanhill, the estate of tin sheds and cortinas with fluffy dice the size of the owners

True Goldie. His Dad most prob' owned the MOT station!!
-
Oh! I have not yet started the operation of removing them and sounds like i could be asking for trouble with car parks etc! In 2 minds now!! If i do take them off is the glue stuff a nightmare to get off? I remember my Astra GTE when i took the door strips off....the glue was a complete nightmare!
-
Thanks for your help so far on this mate :) Just checked the MOT. It was carried out on Nov 17th so about 6 weeks ago. Thing is i dont know if you have seen my other post about brake pipe but i think it should have failed on that. Im no expert or car mechanic but that brake pipe thing looks dangerous and looks like it has been like it for some time. Anyway mate, what do you reckon the steering could be down to?
-
^^ Goldie you a so correct! So many yhings need to be put right. It really was not as described on e.bay which is a bit of a s#it....but hey ive bought it now and just waiting for my bank balance to drop :( Here is another pic of the the top part of the hose as the other one came out blurry and bad! By the way my expansion tank hose that runs to the rad looks like this too
-
Found this whilst doing a service.....what do you think?? Brake pipe
-
Thanks for that mate...will go and try that shortly as have no work today! I got the idea from the red Raddo at the top of the forum today....think it looks great without door strips.
-
Just tried that mate and its fine. Steering feels good and solid when turnining when stood still. Does not feel right when driving, kind of un-easy feeling....no solid feel if that makes sence? But going round a r.bout (thousands in Milton Keynes) obviously turning right it feels wobbly (i can feel it through the steering wheel and feel the front of the car is almost wanting to pull to the left?) but fine when going round a tight left handed corner Any help/advice on this would be great Thanks in advance :)
-
How are the door strips held on.....if its glue whats the best way of removing them?
-
Steering racks are expensive if i rememeber correctly?.....Thats if it is of course!
