The VW digi's are rare as rocking horse poo! One big trouble with them.....they all came in KMH and could not be changed to MPH :(

Out of interest if anyone knows....how much would my Corrado have cost when new? Its a 1990 1.8 16v.

What a Christmas....been giving my C a good look over. I bought it on e.bay the other day, pics etc looked great on e.bay and description was good so i bid and won. After the once over today i have found its going to need a bit of work to get her back to how a Corrado should look. She needs a good t.cut as the red paint has dulled, few stone chips but nothing major. Interior has the headlining loose and totally off the sunroof. Some of the dash lights dont work but dash is getting replaced by a digi-dash from an Astra GTE (post on 'interior' to what im doing) Engine is need of a full service. Her prev' owner used her as a run around and has obviously taken no care of her, how can anybody do this to such a cult car  Anyway, give her a month with me and we should have a good example of a Corrado back on the roads :)

Had the dash out of my C today. Worked out all, well most of the wires! Now i have an Astra GTE digi-dash that im in the middle of modding using light green illumination instead of the yellow. Im going to install it when finished into my C...be a bit different! I installed one on my old RS Turbo Escort and 1.9 205 Pug so now a Corrado! Got to find the correct transducer as the one i have is wrong for the dash. Will keep all up to date with pics etc :)

How can you tell if your head gasket has gone (1990 1.8 16v)? I have looked under my oil cap and no mayo and no mayo in water bottle although there seems a bit of gunk coming out when i squeased the bottom hose and watched some cooloant come out...maybe a bit of rust or just needs a good flush? Anyway when i started my car this morning she smokes a bit. She has not had a service for over 10k due to prev' owner. What worries me is head gasket with the smoking and gunge type stuff from water coolant. Is there any way of telling if it has gone...power loss or any other signals? Any help/advice would be great Oh....Merry Christmas!! Paul :)

Thank you mate....i was going to de-badge mine to give it a smooth look but if it has pins then i wont  My C is red and has a red Corrado badge. Think i will change the colour now, or maybe buy a chrome/silver badge? Think a black badge if i was to spray it would look good on a red C?

Ive looked through the site but cant seem to find what the differance is between the early Corrado's and late Corrado's. I know the earlier ones like mine have a MK2 Golf heater slider things but thats about it! Ive heard the later ones have different lights, ride height etc?? Would someone mind telling me what the differances are, also pro's and con's with any changes between the early and late. Thank you :)

Ive not tried with my dog yet! I have an 8st German Shepherd....going to prove fun i think!

Is the back Corrado badge stuck on or does it have pin kind of things holding it on?
-
Thanks Cazza :) I will have a look under my car and see if i can work it out. Im not very good with mechanics and dont have a Haynes on the Corrado yet....i do have a Haynes on a MK2 Golf which covers the GTI 16v, im sure they will be the same? I had a horrible thought last night that it could be the head gasket (dont know why!) looked at oil filler cap and in water bottle this morning and no mayo under cap or fuel looking stuff in water bottle. There is a bit of smoke coming out of exhaust to which my girlfriend made a remark when she was following home after buying the car and said it smelt of fumes to such an extent she had to back off....really hope its not the HG?!! Must add the car has a full VW history (she has 150,420 miles on her) but has not had a service carried out for 14 months since last owner had her. Oil looks ok, not black or gungy. I bought everything for a full service yesterday including injection cleaner. Also filled her up with V-Max Shell as prev' owner has been using horrible super market petrol. I only used Shell V-Power on my Golf GTI valve.

Water pump. Where does he live and is it a big job? Thanks so far for advice....im sure this could be the reason for me having no hot air and having to dress up like an eskimo every time i go for a drive!!

Its a 1990 1.8 16v mate.

Engnie temp is getting hot fairly quickly, about the same as my old GTI 16v. How do i change the thermostat....where does it live?
-
When engine is warm/hot the top hose is hot on the rad, the bottom is cold....could this have something to do with my heating not coming out hot? If so what is it?

Thanks Pete! Problem solved!

Just changed my plugs....real hard to get out! Anyway they are out and new ones are in. I bought the new ones from Halfords, Bosch things. I had a dizzy cap and rotor arm from my 91 MK2 Golf GTI 16v that was new that never used. I thought i would put them on. The rotor arm on my Corrado was almost seised and broke when taking off. I now have put the arm from my GTI Golf on and dizzy cap but my car just judders and is not starting....its trying to start but with no succsess. It did start but sounded like it was missing badly then cut out. Have i got ther HT leads round the wrong way...is the rotor arm different?? I have put the old dizzy cap back on as my Golf one did not seem to give a good fit, cant do this with old rotor arm as it broke when i took it off  . My car is a 1990 1.8 16v. Any help would be great as im outside in the freezing cold with a torch.....help :(

As i have no heat im going to replace my thermo valve thing with a bit of copper pipe. Firstly is this ok to do, and secondly what size copper tube do i need? Ive looked at it this morning and looks like i need to buy a T piece copper pipe....maybe a 15mm bit??

davidwort, Caldecote is 2 mins away from me! Good to know there are a few 'Rado owners in and around the area!
-
  Thanks for the link Jim. Going to check out the bypass valve thing tommorow....might put a bit of copper pipe in there for the mo'.....only trouble is im about as much good as mudflaps on a tortoise when it comes to anything mechanical!! Im ok at electrical and stereo install's.

I picked my car up at 6 tonight. I love it :D Sooo much better than my MK2 Golf GTI 16v. The drive is great, true drivers car. Now i have a problem! The heater gives out no heat :( at this time of year seeing polar bears in puffa jackets i think i need some heat  It was warmish when i drove away from picking it up but then went cold, by the way the heater thing is on the hottest. Temp of my car was 96 yet still freezing cold air coming in....any ideas?

I have some Kenwood 13"s (5 1/4) speakers that i never got round to fitting in my MK2 GTI Golf....now will these speakers fit in the standard door pockets of a G reg Corrado? By the way im totally new to Corrado's so know pretty much nothing at the mo' :?
