  1. Hi My charger needs rebuilding ; G60 motor uses approx 1 litre of oil per 2 weeks or 20km/dayx14days....; gearbox is nacked -first no 3rd gear, then no 1st + Rev, now only 2,4 +5th... Decided replacing whole motor & g/box....not paying for g/box swop, 4mths later pay again to replace motor... So found a Golf III Gti 2L 16v (ABF). searched forums high and low and this what I think is correct info :- 1. ABF plus g/box fit into Corrado 100%....mounts are the same...?! 2. ..is 16mm higher so it touches bonnet -does it -really ?? 3. ecu is different, so is the ecu harness the same..? 4. do i need ABF's engine mounts or can i use existing G60's ? 5. will the G60's gear linkage fit ABF's g/bear (they're missing..) ? 6. I am told by seller that alternators are all the same (yeah right...I doubt it), however Gti (??) forums say not...!? Summary what I need to know / have doubts on :- 7. wiring / harness....? 8. engine mounts... 9. speedo reading / sensors..? 10. who has sucessfully done this transplant. 11. want to move to Phase 2 asap = eaton M45 or M62 charger with T3 (twin-charged) 12. Does anyone have pics of : (i) ..where air flow meter is supposed to be... (ii) what / where the group of pumps are mounted lower front of block...(trying to identify which is p/s, airco etc etc (iii) ..sensor that appears to be missing top end of g/box near linkage... Thanks
  2. ..right...I see loose connectors, at least 2 or 3....I've even thought "maybe this 1 plugs into that 1..." ....I'm not going to take the chance..
  3. Does anyone what colour the "orig plug" connector is ? As I am also trying to rip out the old alarm in my corrado....I see a power line connecting to a relay mounted in the fuse box, relay seems to take up a position that should be blank accoring to a snapshot of a std fuse box.... Thanks
  4. Hi I have a unknown GT alarm in my Corrado, GT part no's on the modules are GT 409, 431... Has anyone wiring / installation diagrams for these or any GT's that might apply ? {I am wanting to rip out this GT system and would like to do the job properly and have my Corrado actually start afterwards..} It seems I have a red (power) line going to the relay/fuse box... Thanks Jas
  5. hi ...I dont have access to the ETK, screen resolution doesn't go to 1280x1024 ...and no manual (in english) as yet... C/L pump is knackered what are my options, which pumps would be compatible ? Are Corrado VR6, G60 etc all the same part no's ? How about Golf's -would they do the job ? ..since I need to go scrap yard hunting I pretty much need to know what I am looking for.. Thanks in advance Jas

  7. Solution was the ventilator fan -not the switch. ...I will look into repairing the old one.. Thanks
  8. nope, i saw the post...but have a whole fan already...so I'll make a point of checking before swapping the motor.....thnks
  9. I find that hold in the switch for some time, and then release it....temp fix.
  10. Hi all... here's another one....the fan speed only runs on 4, so got a 2nd hand one.... Since this is my first VW and Corrado I need some guidance in what to remove etc to swap out the ventilator fan...? If someone had a crude picture with some arrows - "remove this ..that" would be greatly appreciated... btw - no corrado manual and ETKA requires 1280x1024 resolution....doh ! Thanks Jas
  11. Don't know anything about the head, only just bought it...never met the prev owner...
  12. Well according to the test idle should be in the 650 mark..? So if your idle is 200 odd that means I have no timing problem, however charger needs overhaul or something else... ??
  13. "" 1. Start engine 2. Move the MFA selector to "2" 3. Press and hold the MFA end button (keep holding) 4. Stop engine 5. Start engine 6. Release the MFA end button. 7. Press the MFA End button one time. You should now see 550-750 readings fluctuating with idle. Anything higher than 750 is probably not right (a vacuum leak possibly?). Much less than 550 is probably too much timing advance. Run the car to the redline in 3rd and 4th gears noting the highest readings you get == my reading is 240, dropping to 200 stable Running a standard 78mm pulley you should see 11psi if the charger is in good nick but a charger with a smaller pulley should make more than 11.6 EURO Hg(#'s of boost/vacuum) 200 - 23.7 400 - 17.8 600 - 11.9 800 - 5.9 1000 0 (Atmospheric pressure, charger is bypassed?) 1200 2.9 psi (You have a major boost leak) 1400 5.8 psi (Your charger is in very poor condition) 1600 8.7 psi (Your charger would benefit from new apex strips) 1800 11.6 psi (Good for stock pulley, needs new apex strips if 68mm pulley) 2000 14.5 psi (Good for 68mm pulley on stock charger) 2200 17.4 psi (Good for 68mm pulley on heavily ported charger) Any more than this and you must ensure that the fuelling is seriously up to scratch At this point you are into the realms of different injectors, aftermarket engine management and so forth...."" --- my redline reading is only 960 odd ! According to the graph above thats near atmospheric pressure.... Could "timing advanced too much" be the only issue I have ? I would need to get a boost gauge yes to check psi ... Thanks
  14. I did the blow into the plastic tube -with a bit of force all the doors lock and unlock, so this confirms it has to be the central locking motor, including the burnt smell....so....
  15. GOT IT ! under the foam/spongy box...right its kinda sitting on the wheel arch a few inches from the inside of the fuel cap.... So its the same as RHD Corrado's then I can smell something has burnt out, so will pick 1 up cheap hopefully. Cheers mate
  16. ok, i did find a grouping of 4 or 5 fuses this side (steering wheel side) of the main fuse box; they were all ok...i tried to look behind the fuse box (opposite end, firewall side) couldnt see any, suppose will have to unscrew the mounting and cover to get to what you describe..... ok thanks
  17. right...I will d/check....i was sure I lifted the carpet and didnt see anything.... open boot, facing forwards (as if looking thru front windscreen) a few inches between me and the petrol cap are a whole lot of gadgets - this isn't on the floor...think its there somewhere (right)
  18. Ah yes -another question - THE FUSE FOR THE CENTRAL LOCKING ??!! I also read - fuse 18, near 31,,,,fuse 21......... So which is it ?? btw -this conflicting info is from a no of forums not just here, as I am searching around to determine exactly which fuse this is... Thanks
  19. Hi all Its good to be here. My first VW and have been an Rx-7 and Vauxhall fan. I am from london working in the not so great netherlands... I read on forums here and there -descriptions of where the CentraL locking motor is located :- 1. ...drivers side rear door ....Or 2. ...under the carpet....Or 3. actually in the boot lid/trunk (lid ??)....OR I understand these terms to be interchangable : boot, trunk, tailgate... I don't consider the rear door to actually be the boot (or trunk), and since the corrado is a coupe there are no rear doors ! (although we would call the Corrado a 2/3 door...) In the boot inside lid there is no central locking motor that I can see ; there are the tail light fittings and bulbs, the rear spoiler motor etc etc.. This Corrado G60 of mine is LHD, unlike my other Uk cars which are RHD. So perhaps this description of "rear drivers side....blah blah" depends on whether this is LHD or RHD..(right ?) ? Since getting an english manual in the netherlands is nearly impossible, most dutch have managed to get ones in german ; I have the ETKA but can't run the bloody CD since my TFT doesn't support the resolution required 1280x1024....etc If someone had a foto to post with a crudely drawn arrow on it -this is where the motor is hiding, this would be most helpfully and won't require these vague/ambiguous attempts at describing rear, front, left, right....f**k it.... Thanks in advance.
