Nice one, good luck with the repair!
-
I think it's disgusting when you consider the name of the tax...road fund licence. How many roads has your road tax gone towards repairing? Every road around my house is awful. I had a puncture in my old car and a dented rim from a pothole on one of the roads and complained to the council, they refused to refund the costs of this fault with their road. It's become another green tax these days, you pay based on how much your car pollutes providing it has official figures. It just proves that it no longer pays for the upkeep of roads, you don't necessarily cause more damage to the roads if you pollute more. There were figures released by a review into the road fund for 2006 or 2007, a shockingly low amount of RFL receipts went on roads, I can't remember how much now but I'm almost certain it was less than 50% Just wait until they decide to bring in road charging nationwide instead of the standard yearly charge, I wonder what the average yearly RFL will be then. Rant over.

Have found a Corrado Storm, pictures added 13/03/08
Louis replied to Purple Tom's topic in General Car Chat
No way £3.5k hozay! If he knew what it's worth he would have halved that figure. They can be worth a lot but I would not want to pay someone much money for leaving a storm to rot underneath a tree for 4 years. There's probably also a lot of effort required to be able to feel that it was properly back to the standard it should be at. It would definitely be worth the effort but only at a lower cost in my opinion. I'd rather pay that for a nice VR6 to someone who's actually looked after it. My advice...nick it, well worth the risk! Only joking about the nicking part, incase there are some officers of the law on here etc. -
I'd vote for leaving a storm as standard as they're pretty special, and change the interior of a non storm instead but it's your money & your choice. I have a green non storm with cream leather though and I love how it looks. Bit annoying to keep clean but it's worth it I think.

The part is the same as is on the part displayed in the photo! ----->357877385 Check it out on http://www.vagcat.com if you want to make sure. Regarding the won't lay horizontal problem. If I remember correctly, the part has a small rubber wheel on it which sits inside a groove on the sunroof frame when the whole mechanism is in the slide position. If this is correct, then check the wheel in comparison with the other side, it may be damaged slightly and therefore not sitting correctly, if so you may be able to repair it, if not, I don't think that that part alone would cost a lot from VAG. I had a similar problem when fixing my roof and seem to remember that being the cause of it. Let me know if you have any luck.

Go to http://www.vagcat.com and create an account et voila, the online version of whatever programme it is VAG use, the name escapes me now! Ye visit body and then steel sliding roof parts and you can see a rough photo of the parts along with the part numbers. If you had more details I might be able to tell you what parts you would need to fix it.

Fair enough, my knowledge on spoilers is now exhausted having never really looked at mine before. I do know that it operates on the speedometer because when mine temporarily didn't work, neither did the spoiler. As soon as it started working again, so did the spoiler. It is possible to replace just the lens. I know you can get a new one from GSF for about £30, not sure about dealer prices. However if you are happy with 2nd hand you might be able to get one from a scrappy for half the price. A new headlight from the dealer would be expensive, I don't know how much but I would imagine at the very least £75, 2nd hand could be £30-£40, have a look on here. Buying a 2nd hand unit you might end up only using a few parts from it, the reflective silver coating is sometimes damaged and spoils the look of the headlight a bit. Don't try to clean the inside of the headlight with a wet rag, it does wipe the silver coating off, I know from experience!

Regarding the scraping problem, I've encountered a similar problem before, I had three, shall we say, large friends in the car, I think there was over 30 stone in the back being 2 mates and if I went over some bumps a bit too fast I would hear the rear wheels in the wheel arches. Because it only happens with friends in the car I would consider it being a weak suspension unit aswell as other suggestions, if one has gone then you're best off replacing at least both the rear units, but I'd recommend replacing all four. If you can find out when the suspension units were last replaced that would give you a good idea as to whether they're due for replacement in the near future. I.e., if they've never been done, they probably should be by now! Do you mean that the spoiler never comes down or it just doesn't come down as soon as you go under 60 mph? When you say it goes up at 60 mph I imagine that it does come down eventually for you to know it works at 60! The spoiler won't come back down until you go under about 15 mph. I thought it was a little strange at first but then you realise the spoiler would be working overtime if it just operated using the 60 mph as a trigger point, which would result in a large amount of spoiler motor sales.

Seen some photos of it at Geneva, I have to admit, I don't like it at all. Looks like I'll have to wait even longer for a desirable vw coup

Did you fit the oil pressure gauge in the end? Has it cured the problem? I have a similar problem although my Corrado VR6 does seem to be losing a lot of oil too. I've checked in the bay for any leaks, no obvious ones found and no obvious signs from the floor where it's parked. The exhaust fumes are fine so it's not burning oil, but I'm currently topping up the oil level every 3-4 weeks, when going round corners particularly fast the oil pressure light beeps which is my cue to top up the oil level. Not sure if the two are linked but it's doing my head in now and don't want to wait til the service, the car hardly needed topping up with oil almost a year ago when I got it, this all started maybe July-August time.

I currently have my electric sunroof control panels disconnected due to fitting new mechanisms and am trying to loosen it all up by using the sunroof manually with the allen key, however I'm all too aware that I'm using the sunroof much less because I'm a lazy sod. I am just wondering if I could fit a manual winder to it as I imagine it works in much the same way, would this fit or is it a complete waste of my time, money and brain power?

Not sure about the swapping over question but I can suggest the reason for the sunroof tilting upwards when you lock the car. Has it always done this or has it just randomly started? If it's always done it it sounds like the motor is not synchronised with the sunroof properly. When you set the alarm the motor automatically goes back into start position, at the moment the motor thinks start position is with the sunroof slightly tilted. In order to fix this you will need to remove the sunroof control panel. If you need help with that then pm me or something. Once that is removed you will see an allen key clipped onto the motor & a little black flap with an arrow on it. Firstly, set the sunroof to closed if it isn't already. If I remember correctly in order to tilt the sunroof you need to turn the allen key clockwise in the motor. To check this, remove the motor from the sunroof subframe, it should require the allen key & a screwdriver and a bit of wiggling (of the motor that is) Once the motor is out, you need to wind it to its start position, in your case I think you need to wind the motor clockwise 1-2 turns. Try it with 1 turn first, if you move the black flap across you will see where to put the allen key, then slide the flap back over the hole otherwise the electric motor won't work, it completes the circuit for safety reasons. Then put the motor back into place & try the alarm again, if the sunroof still tilts up slightly repeat the process again until it stops tilting. You may find it requires 1/4 or 1/2 turn but it is no more sensitive than that. If the sunroof starts to slide backwards you've gone too far and need to wind the motor anti-clockwise when you remove it. However, if I'm wrong, after the first attempt of turning the motor clockwise the sunroof will tilt even more, in that case just take the motor back out and turn it anti-clockwise, but I'm pretty certain I have it right, I'm currently operating mine that way due to new mechanisms which have made the sunroof to stiff for the motor to handle with, and I don't want a burnt out motor!

I feel your pain Skinnyman, I am having the exact same trouble, I hate the interior part, why couldn't they just colour the underneath of the sunroof the right colour? I wouldn't mind now The way I approached this problem was very tedious & stressful seeing as I was working alone. I left the interior part out of the sunroof setup initially, connected the subframe to the roof & tightened it all up. Then i adjusted the sunroof slightly whilst in until it looked ok when sat back down, obviously just going by eye isn't very reliable as I later found out. Anyway, I then took the frame back out with the sunroof on tilt and I slid* the interior part almost into place and refitted the whole subframe again. Took it out for a spin & the wind noise was louder than before, so now I have to go through it allll again, great! * When I say slid I mean spent about 30 mins on the lawn with screwdrivers in each hand trying to push down the little clips underneath the mechanisms simultaneously whilst moving the interior part forwards with my chin. It was very entertaining for my parents who were sat on the patio listening to all the swear words I know.

Repair sunroof, problem half way through........now with pic
Louis replied to skinnyman9000's topic in Interior
I am having a similar problem with the cloth part of the sunroof, how did you manage to get both clips underneath the mechanisms simultaneously? I managed to get them both under by becoming ambidextrous with screwdrivers but cannot get it to slide all the way forwards, hence the need for tie wraps at the back of it for fear of it coming loose. However, the fit is so tight in the frame that I cannot realistically get the interior seal around it, I did it once and the motor couldn't pull it forwards, and doing it manually didn't work either. It's all coming back out anyway soon because one of the useless screws has come loose and is doing my head in with its constant rattling. I really wish I never even took the bloody thing out now! -
Love it! given me some inspiration too, those leathers are immaculate especially considering they're cream, now i know what colour mine were at one stage in it's life. Off to do some serious scrubbing this weekend

not a fan of the bras myself but if it causes some controversy & talking points i dont mind, i think the front is there for taking the stonechips for the team and looking less pretty than the rest of the car, tempting to spray the bonnet but i dont see the point unless some rust starts to develop as a result of a chip.

I want to make a new post on the for sale section but apparently only mods can, how can I get my post on there please?

You successfully done these? I've just finished mine today, for the second time in about a month! By mechs I assume you mean the part which the cable is attached to. Be careful when removing the other parts, if they're stubborn then don't hit things like lifters too hard with things like hammers. I did, and I think I weakened parts, and when putting said parts back into the runners they actually fell to pieces in my hand. First of all I thought I was a strong man, then I realised what the real reason was. Any help just ask, it's all fresh in my mind and feel as though I could now do it blindfolded, I wouldn't try it though

Made my sunroof waterproof once more! Took delivery of a second hand one earlier in the week, tested it, and because I couldn't be that bothered due to mishaps when fixing mine a few weeks earlier, I just took all the mechanisms out of it, cleaned it and regreased it and swapped the lids over. It's all in and working fine now, tomorrow the headlining finally goes back in, it's going to be great with no morning dew dripping onto my back and air rushing in through the front of the roof as it's not flush with the body. The lifters were broken on the old one which was a nightmare. Also fitted a new head unit last weekend, the easiest head unit fit I've ever done, unplug & plug the new one in, so I now have the ability to put 10 mp3 cds in my changer! Tomorrow I are also be trying to correct the toe angle on the driver's wheel, I previously replaced an inner cv boot & completely forgot to note the positioning of the adjustable parts, therefore the handling is now shocking and I hang on for dear life to stay on the road!

I'm thinkin of doin this soon too, dad's done it on his bike and has said when interpreted correctly it can help a lot on country roads, which is where I do most of my overtaking so it can only be good I think.

1 month!

I've had mine about three weeks... £100 in parts £150 in petrol I hope this isn't going to carry on proportionally! If it does I'll get over it I spose, it's worth it

some of those prototypes look ugly! So glad they didn't go with those designs and made it a bit better looking. I've always seen the corrado as the follow on model from the scirocco, vw's sports coupe.

Nice one, I was contemplating taking out the main lining but didn't want to do that incase it didn't help at all Cheers, I'll have an attempt at it when my hangover is gone :pukeright:

I've just come to start attempting this job, I have the repair kit and the copy of The Sprinter magazine which explains in detail how to do the job. I have fallen at the first hurdle I'm sad to say, it explains how you need to remove the part of the headlining that moves with the sunroof, to do so you need the sunroof at full tilt, which is fine. It then says that his headlining part was already disengaged and could be slid towards the back of the car to remove it, mine will not budge! I'm assuming that becuase his was already separated then it moved, anyone able to tell me how they removed theirs? After this part is done it all seems relavitvely straighforward, however, the first part seemed straightforward, so any other tips would be much appreciado. Cheers
