This pic inspired another:

Didn't take any I'm afraid. I can get some after pics though. If it wasn't poisonous I'd use it on the dishes. Way better than Fairy!
-
Went for the Autoglym in the end. Really good, well recommended! :D

f**k damn and blast that's a bit too far! Yeah, sorry mate. That would be one hell of a trip! I'm sure someone will come back soon with someone who is a bit closer matey. If you google G Lader servicing a few come up but I couldn't tell what they're like. Only ever been to G-Werks.
-
They are down in West Sussex mate. On the south coast! Here's their site: www.g-werks.com But they are brilliant. Excellent service and they really know their stuff inside out. They did a rebuild for me in December plus some other bits. If you don't mind the trip defo give them a look.
-
Yikes! I normally use G-Werks for any stuff I can't do myself but they are way down south mate. When you say you are willing to travel how far do you mean exactly?
-
Mate, don't be too disheartened. It always looks worse when it's your car but when I saw it this afternoon it didn't look all that bad. Like I said, my car needs paint too! And I wouldn't be at all surprised to find filler on mine. Maybe we should both buy Dan a few drinks and get him to respray our cars!

Spent this afternoon working on the golf. It now has a new battery, new starter motor, new plugs, new ignition leads, new dizzy cap, new rotor arm and a new cam cover gasket. :D Can't think of many better ways to spend a Sunday afternoon: The Golf runs like you wouldn't believe now. There are brand new cars on our forecourt that don't run as well as it does now! :D

You have a tattoo of a cartoon character shaving his ass? Hats off to thee sir! :salute: We may as well have a General Family Guy Chat section just so that we have somewhere to move these threads to!

I am always carefull when rinsing off any degreaser etc in engine bay- would advise caution if using a pressure washer, in my experience the most sensitive items tend to be alarm systems-always worth tie wrapping a bag around them, might be prudent to protect dizzy, and always give engine a good run afterwards to dry it off/check running ok. Rich. Yeah, one of the guys at work suggested a pressure washer but seems a bit risky to me.... Not sure I'd risk it on an 18 year old engine. Plus I've only just put a new starter motor on yesterday, I could do without anymore electrical things going t*ts up.
-
Thanks for that guys. Will see if I can get hold of either of those two tomorrow morning. Just want to clean it all up before fitting the new plugs as I don't want them getting fouled or have crud getting into the cylinders.
-
What's the best way of cleaning up an oily engine in situ? The engine in my golf is all oily from a blown cam cover gasket and I want to clean it all up before replacing said gasket and the spark plugs etc.

New starter went on this afternoon and it's alive again! Thank God for that! :D
-
Yes mate! That's exactly what I've been thinking! :D Mic - may take you up on the VR. Would have to seriously consider the insurance situation though! :pale:  It's proper straight, I'm not at all bothered about the starter, picked a new one up today and once that's fitted it'll be back to it's old self hopefully. One of the (few) joys of working in the motor trade. Easy access to lots of reasonably priced parts! :D
-
Hmmmm... so much for the Golf not turning into another project! The starter motor decided to eat itself this morning so thought I'd better give some other bits some attention while I'm at it. Picking up a replacement starter tomorrow and hopefully getting it fitted tomorrow if there's time. Also got new plugs, HT leads, dizzy cap, arm, and a new cam cover gasket. Getting the engine cleaned on Saturday as it's rather oily (due to shot cam cover gasket) before fitting that little lot on Sunday. Still really pleased with it though. The body work is so good I'm tempted by a VR conversion.... :D

She can hire one for me if she likes?!
-
Now there's no need to be sarcastic.
-
Maybe ours was just shot to bits then! It wasn't the best example to be fair. I stole the stereo out of it as it was an Alpine with red buttons and it will look awesome in my Rado. :D
-
We had one of those chopped in not so long ago, or one like it. Can't recall the exact model. Was a manual though. Never ever ever ever buy a manual one!
-
That headlight loom looks really nice on there mate. Shame you can't see it! :D
-
Only time will tell. Probably lots and lots of time.... The Rado is in ok shape really. I'd love some new wheels and some paint but having just put an offer in on a house I doubt any of that is gonna happen this year. The only other thing that is niggling me now is the clutch but it's not that bad. I'm probably just being fussy with that. Oh, and I STILL need to get that front engine mount sorted. Sounds more like a glutton for punishment if you ask me! Looks very good mate, loved my previous mk2's. This is my second mk2. They are a lot of fun! :D It's amazing how much nicer that 8v engine feels with a nice big supercharger strapped to the front of it though....

I try not to think about fuel bills. To be fair though there won't be that much difference in cost from running this than running the company car. I still had to pay private mileage and the Inland Revenue had their hands a little deeper in my pockets. Plus this way I'm spending money on something I actually own rather than spending money on something somebody else owns.
-
Well, thought I'd get rid of the company car and get something that's actually fun to drive to ferry me backwards and forwards to boring old work. Affirmation that you can keep your brand new cars. I'd still rather drive a '91 VW! :D Thinking about stealing the steelies off the Rado and sticking them on the Golf. They suit mk2s better I think.
-
Come on guys. You 2.0 8v lot are supposed to be showing the rest of us up with your reliability and excellent fuel consumption. Try harder next time.

One please.
