  1. So I've messed about with this advancing the ignition on the dizzy. I can definately say it makes a difference. I only rotated the dizzy only 2 or 3 degrees, but it does pick up alot quicker than normal  It's best to mark where the dizzy is to start with & if you go too far you can go back to normal. I'm running Optimax in the tank at the moment, maybe I'll add a splash of octane booster later & try it again. I've got a track day coming up soon, so I'll have it ready for then. And with the SNS chip I'll be acquiring, I think I'll have some fun. :D
  2. Wise words!! I never take mine past 6000rpm. Well almost never
  3. Had a look at the contacts on the main unit. (It's one of these where the front face rotates downwards & slides off a metal bracket, & then you push the metal bracket back on to the main unit) Anyway, I found the problem. The contacts are attached to the metal bracket which are then carried to the insides of the unit via a ribbon. The ribbon has somehow been creased & this is why the illumination has gone. To make matters even worse, the ribbon has now snapped across the crease!! It doesn't really matter now, as I have set my mind on a new head unit. In fact, I have already ordered it!!
  4. Too big for the brakes. It's the Intercooler duct.
  5. Yeah, follows the lines of the cut outs underneath. You can also tell where the supercharger is when the engine has been running!! (Only area where the snow has melted)
  6. The last 2 look really nasty!!
  7. I cleaned out the intercooler at the weekend. After I had got the cooler off the car (those 17mm bolts that hold the bumper on are bloody tight!!!) I brushed on some Gunk degreaser onto the front surface & let it drain inbetween the fins for about 5 mins. Then hosed it out with cold water. Turned the cooler around & did the same with the back. I repeated this about 3 times. Then I poured some Gunk into the end tanks, let soak in for 5 mins & then flushed them out with cold water, until the water was clear. Dried it off with a hair drier & assembled back out the car. While I had the the bumper & wheel arch liner off, I drilled a series of 10mm diameter holes into the wheel arch liner to aid air flow around the intercooler. Impressions are a slight difference in responsiveness at speed. i.e better & smoother response at 50-70mph. :)
  8. I was thinking about putting in a oil pressure gauge too. I had a look at the original Corrado instruction manual that came with the car & that shows a 5 bar gauge on the opitional instruments. You'll probably need the same sender.
  9. I'm sure everyone on here will agree with you. It's a common fault with the C. There are a couple of things you could do. 1. Modify the wiper arm stops by grinding off material to force the wiper arms on to the windscreen. (detailed explanation can be found on the CCGB website) 2. Get hold of the Lupo GTI set up. (can be found on here under the Tuning & Mods section) I did the first item & it does work. I also use Rain-X on the windscreen from time to time.
  10. A strange thing has happened to my Pioneer head unit. All the illumination has gone out. All the buttons & main display are not lighting up. I've taken it out & checked the wiring but can't find anything wrong. It's a detachable front panel model & somebody suggested cleaning the contacts on the front panel & main unit. Anymore suggestions? Cheers.
  11. I've read the tips on setting up the G60 engine on the SNS Tuning website. Sam mentions that you can adjust the dizzy to advance the ignition timing (Americans have lower octane fuel rating than over here) for a bit more umph!! I'm gonna give this a go & see if I get any results.
  12. Dubcharged is right. I tried disconnecting the ISV & checking the boost levels. No difference really. The check valve is just a precautionary measure, just in case it does leak boost. P.S. Dubcharged, I'm still interested in the Stage 5 chip (email sent in Dec). What delivery times are on these chips? Cheers.
  13. Yeah, I wouldn't mind getting hold of the RSR outlet. I already have a check valve on the ISV pipe, so re-route would be no good to me.
  14. It's the Corrado Club GB Magazine.
  15. I've been thinking about playing around with the ignition timing to maximise the benefit of using Optimax fuel + Octane booster. The way I might do it is loosening off the dizzy & rotating it slightly to advance the timing then tighten up again. I know the timing at the moment is set at the standard settings with 95 Octane level. If I am using Optimax (98 RON) & running an octane booster, I could advance the ignition slighty to suit. What do you guys think? Does this sound feasible or I am just talking crap?
  16. Supersprint do one for about £90. It's just a straight thru' expansion box. There are 2 different lengths I think. I got mine from C & R enterprises. They advise you to measure your existing cat before ordering. Or you could get one fabricated if you want. But this would make the existing systen louder (if you didn't silence the decat pipe).
  17. Nope. The regulation is applicable to cars registered from Aug '92 onwards. So you are safe to remove your cat.

There are two micro switches on top of the throttle body. When the throttle is at rest, a little stop on the cable will hit the first micro switch, which tells the ECU to kill the fuel. The second micro switch is the fuel enrichment. This is activated when you hit full throttle.
  19. Cheers G60Jet, Washing Powder eh! For that fresh clean smell!!
  20. OK. I'm going to give it a good clean out this weekend. What did you use to clean it? I've got a can of spray on Gunk that I use on the engine bay every now & again. Will this be sufficient?
  21. G60Jet, After you had cleaned the intercooler was there a difference in performance? I'm thinking of cleaning mine out at the weekend.
  22. I'm not sure of the which model the red DI's are but the Polo comes in 1.4 & 1.9 TDI varients. 1.4 is 75hp & 1.9 is 100hp. The Bora has the 130hp & 150hp TDI PD engines. With the TDI engines, it's all about torque. The 150hp TDI PD produces 236lb/ft @ 1900rpm. Lovely!!
  23. Yeah, the later G60's had the 'supercharged' badge on the rear panel. Probably obsolete by now. Trimsport do the 'supercharged' badge in various sizes. I think the smallest one that I had picked up was about £5.
  24. 2 Pin, Green & Black Sensor for PG engine (G60) Part No 251 919 501D
  25. It sounds like the sensor has gone. It sits in the coolant hose at the front of the engine block. The temp gauge sensor is the black one. Just unplug the connector, prise out the clip that holds the sensor & pull out the old one. Refitting is reverse of removal...as they say!! It might be an idea to replace the O ring as well. NOTE: Only do this when the engine is cold i.e. with no pressure build up.
