  1. I have detected the traction control working when pulling out of side roads. Lots of steering lock, wet roads and a bootful of torque make it audibly attempt to brake the inside wheel. (You can feel it too.) But I'd hardly describe it as a feature worthy of the title "traction control"..
  2. Was gonna say, I'm gobsmacked they did a 4x4 JETTA!

    fuel pump dead! :-(

Could be the ISV then. Could also be the pedal position sensors? Correct me if I'm wrong, but I think there's a sensor on the pedal that tells the engine you're at zero throttle, so goes into idle mode.

Actually while the engine's running, you should see 14.2 volts across the battery (from the alternator), so you will be over-driving the bulbs slightly by using the loom, but I don't think many people have seen significant decreases in lifetimes with these fitted.
  5. Henny, that was one of the most stupid "copy protection" systems ever invented. Not only that, but as I don't run M$ it didn't work on my computer anyway... It made me laugh when I heard about it..! When will the record companies learn? Their past experience will tell them that EVERY copy protected album they've ever released has been ripped and available on the P2P networks within an hour of release... In fact, most become available BEFORE official release day. Why bother? Work *with* the system...
  6. ... the black carbon canister hose ...? Enlighten me if you would kev, with pictures if poss - cos I'm a bit thick like... :) I wouldn't say I have any cold running problems though, so maybe it's not too bad.
  7. It's not mis-information, that's true. That's a description of what *can* happen, but it's pretty rare. You *should* get the valve adjusted for the new suspension drop when you lower it though...

Pete, definitely go for the higher rated bulbs (legal 60W/55W ones tho!), plus a loom. Do both, you won't regret it. The loom will make *most* difference, I think, but the bulbs still help. It doesn't say "+50% more light" on the box for nothing. All of a sudden really distant things start lighting up, and you wonder if the guy behind you has main beam on... :) Oh, and I should mention that the Philips Vision Plus bulbs are also excellent, but a supposedly independant test said the Osram Silver Stars were very slightly better on all counts.
  9. A pair of OE front shocks can be yours for somewhere in the region of £120, so £200 for adjustable ones is not unreasonable. As a general rule, you get what you pay for...
  10. They won't play the new copy-protected album from who-knows who though. No, you'll have to rip it to .ogg in order to play it in the car... (ha!!) ;)
  11. I'd be interested to know how aligning your fuel molecules in your fuel line is supposed to help combustion. By the time those fuel molecules have sat around in the injectors waiting to be squirted into a cylinder they'll be well jumbled again (and that's assuming for just one second that it's possible to align non-ionic, non-ferrous molecules using a magnet, which is also questionable). I mean, good luck to you guys who try it, but the scientist in me says it can't work..
  12. *cough* I meant the license-unencumbered "ogg" format, instead of mp3, of course, for those that are aware... (sounds better too, particularly at lower bitrates.)
  13. Surely these days it's easier to get an mp3 -capable changer, and bung tons of albums on CDs in mp3 format? Or even a hard-drive based setup. (Though these seem to be *still* extortionately expensive!)
  14. Excuse me for being cynical... http://www.wcpo.com/wcpo/localshows/don ... 187a7.html Bung the name into google and look for yourselves. Chances are you'll see little or no benefit for your £34.
  15. Really? Can't say I've driven both, but that's the impression I've been given before. Still, definitely no lag though - that's definitely true.

Ah, didn't realise about the sidelights, I didn't use 'em - a mate popped them in his Audi A3..
  17. My VR starts fine, but also smells of fuel for a very short while, 5-10 seconds or so.. I've heard that overhauling of the injectors can help with starting problems and petrol smells..
  18. Supercharger vs Turbocharger won't be represented in the 0-60s. The supercharger will show much more low-rev torque than a turbo, and less lag. It's usually said to be better to drive a super- than a turbo-, cos there's no lag and there's grunt right through the rev range.

FWIW I went to http://www.powerbulbs.com/ and paid £19.99 for the Osram Silver Stars, which are much better than these Euro Dezigns bulbs. The price is not much dearer when you look in detail at the ebay auction. 6.99 for the bulbs, 3.99 for P+P, 1.99 for postal insurance = £12.97. Plus, for your £19.99 you also get some blue tinted sidelight bulbs to make them look more white aswell.
  20. jgtis, I'm just not inclined to think along those lines cos basically I seem to spend so much keeping my VR6 running *exactly like it is already* that I don't have cash left over for making it better!! However, I would imagine a supercharger does provide a stack of power, and certainly it'd get over the VR's comparative lethargy at low revs pretty nicely, which a turbo might not help so much with.
  21. I think your username says it all... ;)
  22. So you're considering an engine mod that is the price of a tatty VR6!! I wish I had cash kicking around like that!! ;)
  23. Slightly off-topic here, but does anyone know where the best place to get the braided brake line kit from is?
  24. Yes, I was going to add that, I got my rear calipers from VW. You have to ask them for the refurbed parts instead of new ones and they work out cheaper than GSF.

"just". Love it! :) ...not going there again... I'd like to have a perfect car, no question, but right now I'm not prepared to fork out the cash. Maybe later this year if I decide to keep the car for another year or more.
