Zak where did you get your number plates pressed? They look really good with just the pinstripe round the edge
-
Any idea where the previous owner got them polished? I've got a set in the shed waiting to be refurbed and I've been planning on getting them polished. Thought I was the only one who'd thought of that till I saw yours  lol
-
lovely looking corrado, ride height looks just right in those pics
-
Oh right fair play, and were they hand polished? The finish looks really good
-
What someone got them straight off ebay onto edition 38 for double the price? Bit unsportsmanlike!
-
Yeah I've heard they're a bit squidgy but that this can be combated by adding an extra psi or two pressure?
-
Are yours hand polished? Or powder coated? Here's a pic anyway:
-
Anyone tried these? They seem to get good write ups with people saying they perform just as good as tyres twice the price. Being slightly cynical though I'm not convinced yet...
-
Ha ha wish I'd known that then. Oh well they were staying off anyway... :)

Don't think you'll find any plates that are legal whilst looking German tbh, as has been said the font and spacing is illegal if it's different in any way at all from the normal UK plates. Pretty much the only thing you can legally do is have a pin stripe round the edge of the plate or something similar (I'm sure the police could even find something wrong with this) :(
-
It's pretty unlikely they'll be able to salvage the bumpstrips tbh, they're bonded on and mine snapped when they took them off. However, as I didn't have new ones put on the only external bits I needed after the respray were new seals/rubbers for the bottom of the windows (however, these were £40 a pair alone from VW!). Mine wasn't a 'glass out' job though
-
They're right near a place called Bovingdon by the way, not MK (plus the bloke who runs it owns a VR6 himself so I spose thats a good reason for using them :D )
-
Yeah BJV are actually pretty close to me and I've been to see them before about some other wheels. Only thing is they don't do many other finishes apart from standard or diamond cutting. I probably will get them to do it but was just wondering if there was anyone else in the area I'd missed really
-
these kind of wheels, but the audi badge seems to be glued in?
-
Just stick over the audi badge you mean?
-
Afaik they just scrap them because as you said the lip holds the liner in place
-
Anybody know where I can get centre caps for the six spoke Audi TT alloys but with a VW badge as opposed to an Audi one in the centre? I know someone used to do them on ebay but I haven't been able to find them on there.

Anyone got any ideas as to the best wheel refurb place in the SE/London area. I'm based in Buckinghamshire but don't mind to travel a bit for a top quality place. There are a couple round here but I want the wheels done in a bespoke finish or some kind of hyper silver/chrome painted finish and I know that not everybody does that kind of stuff (or doesn't do it well at least). Any recommendations?

I got fined £30 a couple of months back for my plates but there was a lot of bad luck involved in that the one on the back had fallen off due to shit sticky pads and I was genuinely driving to Halfords to get some new pads for the plate to stick it back on. Sod's law I got pulled on the way there and of course there was no way the old bill believed that I was on my way to sort it out and so I actually got done for not displaying the plate as well as having illegal plates. They told me that the German font is illegal, the spacing is illegal and even the bit where you have the name of the country is illegal if it doesn't have GB but the car is registered to this country (I've got DUB on the plates - blagging that they're from Dubai doesn't work  ). And to top it all off I had my normal plates in the boot too. Also got a ticket on my old mk2 golf while it was parked up at night for illegal plates, though they were the old style silver font on a black background so a bit more obvious. Still, you'd think the police would have better things to do on a Friday night in a town centre than ticket cars for illegal plates...

Indeed but just coz you spend 2k doesnt mean its a better job, I dont want to sound arrogant but my car has won a few trophies so the paint cant be bad.... Its not always how much you pay but the standard of the work... The best thing to do IMHO...when you see a great paint job ask who did it then go and see the painter and talk it through... Graham I wasn't trying to imply that you have to pay more for a decent job, but as you said you got yours done at mate's rates and in general you get what you pay for, that's all I'm saying...

My White VR6 Now trying to hand polish inlet manifold

Really like the wheels, was going to get mine diamond cut but got a bit scared off by how prone they become to 'milking' if you scratch them (at least that's what the refurb guy told me). Look good though -
Mine was done for £2100 cash but that was with some damage repair so was actually quite cheap. Tbh despite what people say I think 2k is a safer bet. No point paying £1500, getting a lacklustre job then regretting not spending another £500 for the rest of the time you own the car. But that's just my opinion...

If you can't get em to fit I'll take them off your hands... :D
-
Offset is key. I'd do like a 16x7.5 et20 front and 16x9 et25 rear. I can't speak for the offset of this car...but the stance is perfect. His rear look to possibly be a 15et...I would do 25 on a non pulled fender. Yep the rear is et15 on that car, but as you said the arches look to have been pulled considerably. Also would the offset be any different if you were fitting them on a VR6? (the car in the pic is a 1.8 valver)

Chris Langdon's Moonlight Blue VR6 thread!!!

Just get some coilies so you can have a play with the height and (on the more expensive ones) the rebound etc so you can set it up exactly how you want
