  1. Hi, As per title, Is there anyone near to Eastbourne with VCDS? I have a 2000 Audi A3 1.6 that had a faulty ECU which I've now replaced. My intention was to code the new ECU to the car using VCDS-Lite (shareware), as I'd read that you could do this. However, it seems not, although this could be partly to do with the cheapy cable I'm using. The bit I'm having trouble with is accessing the data/options within the "17-Instruments" section to match the immobiliser to the ECU. So, before I go and register the software and get a decent cable, Is there anyone locally who would come and sort this for me (for a price, obviously). The car has Immobiliser 2 installed, so doesn't require a PIN to recode it. Any help would be greatly appreciated, Thanks Thom :-)
  2. Watching some good ol' trash TV, "Hell Roads" on Quest, and was presented with the sad picture if a Corrado on fire :-/
  3. Hi all, Does anyone by any chance have a good radiator for a 2L 16v that I could collect near Eastbourne tomorrow? Cheers Thom
  4. Hi, I have a replacement door to fit to the car soon and was hoping someone who's done this might be able to offer some advice. I've had a search on this and can find bits and pieces but just have a few questions.... It's a bare door, so will need to transfer over the window mech/glass, handle and locking mech. I was planning on removing the old door with everything inside (window down), fitting the new door bare and then transfering everything into the new door. Is this the most sensible way to do it? My main concerns are the window mechanism and glass, (I know I have to drill out the rivets to get this off, but wanted to re-fit with bolts if possible?) and the alignment of the new door as I've heard there can be problems. Am ok with the other bits as have done plenty with door handles/locks and wiring. I was hoping I could do this all within 2-3 hours, not including swearing and tea drinking. Does that sound realistic? Cheers Thom
  5. Hi, Anyone have a driver's side wiper arm? Some local scum have snapped mine off :-( Cheers
  6. Please, does anyone have these available? I need the half metal, half plastic line that runs from the fuel pump to the accumulator and the plastic line from the accumulator to the filter, in good condition. Can anyone help?! Thanks
  7. Hello, I've changed my fuel filter today, but in my desparation to disconnect the lines from the old one, have managed to damage one of the union connectors. (The old filter had been put on with a torque gun and the bolts/washers had rusted into one!). The union is now not flat on the mating surface to the washer, filter side. What I wanted to ask is, can I use any form of sealant on this to fill the (small) difference between surfaces? or, if not, how can I remove the old union and replace it? I've read that to remove/replace them you have to heat the pipe to make it flexible, but I'm not sure this is such a grand idea so near to the fuel system. I have looked at replacing the whole hose from the accumulator to the filter, but the nut onto the accumulator is also rusted solid and something will break if try and get that off. Have tried the searches but this doesn't seem to be something that's been discussed. Any help would be greatly appreciated, thanks
  8. Hi, Just thought I'd stick this on here in case anyone wanted to have a go, ....or you may just think it looks sh*t...either way :-) Bought one of those beeper circuits to wire up to the ignition and light switch to prevent me leaving the lights on with ignition off. It came in a case about the size of a matchbox and was just going to fit it on the fuse box and be done with it. But, with me being the "if it ain't broke then fix it anyway" kind of guy, decided to take it apart and see if it could be mounted inside the dash. Mine is a car without heated seats, so had one of those blank switch blocks below the Fog light switches. Found that it made a nice new home for the circuit board and that by punching a hole in the centre and adding a little gauze, made a cool little speaker for the beeper. Also, the circuit board had a couple of pads intended for a blinking L.E.D so quickly stuck one in and made a suitable hole in the blank block for that too. After that, just wired it up as normal, wrapped the board in some leccy tape and now have a farily stock-looking lights on warning beeper/flasher. Some pics attached...
  9. Hi, Parked up the car on Tuesday with no signs of a problem, today it wont start :| It''ll turn over fine, the fuel pump can be heard to prime on some attemps but not others, yet the relay clicks every time so the ignition switch (which is new) and relay seem alright. I'm thinking it's probably the fuel pump itself but wanted to see if I'm missing anything first. The pump hasn't shown any signs of failure in the past. Both fuses 15 and 18 are ok. Any ideas? thanks
  10. Mine's called "The Moose", cos the reg starts M885 :D

  13. Evening!, Is it possible to change the front suspension top mounts without the need for spring compressors? Ta
  14. Took me 3 attempts, 2 screwdrivers and a hammer in the end... the right screwdriver helps though Yeh, I can see why having the wrong screwdriver could drive you mad as you can't actually see the screw properly to judge the size. Think I was just lucky :)
  15. Replaced ignition switch, was expecting a nightmare of a job from what I'd read on here, but was a piece of p*ss :) . Also tried once again to respray driver's door, still looks rubbish

    2.0l 16v poor running

Clogged ISV? Had similar symptoms on mine, you can try cleaning it through with some carb cleaner spray. If not then a replacement can be had for around £50.
  17. Hi, I've been meaning to replace my ignition switch cos the engine wasn't turning over. I know switch needs replacing for this reason, but I now have a different problem.....the fuel pump doesn't prime, so now it turns over but wont fire as there is no fuel there. I'm thinking that the pump relay probably needs changing too, but could this be the ignition switch playing up in a different way? The dash lights all still come on ok with ignition turned on, but is there a separate feed from the switch to power the fuel pump relay? Cheers
  18. The Mk2 Golf switch is missing the pins for the switch illumination when the ignition is on. Otherwise it works the same as the Corrado one. Would definitely go for one of these as they're far more robust than the Corrado ones. And cheaper :)
  19. Would strongly suggest taking out the old switch and just leave the loom plug ready for your new switch (get a MK2 Golf switch rather than the late Corrado one, they have the same connections and are much better quality switches, ..cheaper too :) ) as if it does short, you'll melt all the wiring in the loom going back to the fuse box and possibly start a fire. Mine went wrong when I was driving with sidelights on, decided I needed full headlights, pressed the switch, snapping sound and then a car full of smoke, which was a little scary. Anyway, easier to spend 1 min disconnecting the old switch than an hour or 2 repairing the loom and wrestling with the fuse box :)
  20. When you stripped it down, did you check for build up of grease around the cogs? Mine was blowing fuses due to the cogs trying to turn in a lump of grease that had somehow gathered in one spot. Once I removed the lump and regreased it was fine :)
  21. Hi mate, no havent done anything with it but by insulating what do you mean (tape it up)? Yeh, cut off any exposed wire, fold it back on itself and wrap insulation tape around it. If the end of that wire touches anything you can have all sorts of strange issues. Having said that though, if you haven't had the stereo out or altered the loom, there's little chance that this would only now be a problem. Good luck :)

    Ignition Switch....

    Mine's a white one, I'll order a replacement, thanks :-)
  23. Have you done anything with your stereo recentley? There is a speed signal wire (blue/white) that needs insulating. Mine wasn't at one stage and the spoiler had a mind of it's own.
  24. Where could we use these from the same seller then? http://stores.ebay.co.uk/Armory-Auctions__W0QQ_fsubZ12175332  Class!! What have I done?! :) :)
  25. Not a great photo actually, but you can see it fills the gap well and tucks into the remains of the original strip. 19062010108.jpg[/attachment:3mp9j015]
