  1. Hey, My roof strips were in a pretty bad way, so was looking at replacing them, ..but at £120ish, I'd rather eat my own face. So, found these on ebay, which do the trick well, if only for the time being. If you buy 2 sets you have enough to put 2 strips in place of the bit of the strips that crumble off (you have to cut them to size) which fit in very snug and look really neat (will put up a pic). Here's the item: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Latex-Rubber-Trim ... 519244f4c7 :-)
  2. Hello.... I went to start the car today and it wouldn't turn over. After checking for voltage at the starter and finding none I thought the ignition switch must be dying so took off the trim to have a llok. If I hold the key to start and wiggle the wires to the plug it all comes to life, but I can't see any problem with the wiring. Before I run off and get a new switch, is this the normal thing that happens? being that the connections inside the switch die? Cheers T
  3. Cheers for that, ...it took me a lot longer to read those posts than it should have, thanks to ANDREW 30's signature vid :-)
  4. Actually, it should be said that tracing and replacing the loom and headlight switch when it catches fire is quite amusing. But having it happen when you're driving along in the dark and filling the car with smoke is less so..
  5. Hi, I want to sort the orange peel on my resprayed passenger door, but am a little scared of doing more damage! Is it correct that I should sand it down with 1200 grit wet & dry before using rubbing compound on it to bring back the shine in the lacquer Cheers
  6. Heater Matrix is defo the worst one I've had to do. Most other things just very fiddly, rather than difficult, spoiler mech, brake pos sensor etc.
  7. Hi, Went to Halfords today to get a tin of paint made up as I wanted it today (usually buy it online) and they tell me I need a "Universal paint code"? I gave the guy the VW code (LC6U for Classic Green) and he said that they couldn't use it and I should be able to get another code for them to work from. Anyone else had this? Cheers....
  8. Ahhh, I think that's probably it then! :) , thanks to you both!
  9. Hi, I decided to have a crack at changing the heater matrix today, and have got along fine up until the point of undoing the nuts on the engine bay side to losen the box for pulling out. The lower nut and thread have become one and I can't turn the nut without the whole thing moving (even when holding the thread with pliers and heaps of WD40). Have given up for the day but am going to go out and carry on tomorrow....does anyone know if i can hold this thread in anyway from inside the car and have someone take the nut off from outside. I've so far been trying to do this with the dash in, but full centre console, glovebox and lower trim/vents removed. Cheers Thom
  10. Thy're turning a Scirocco Scala into a coffee powered car on BBC1 now :-)
  11. Hi, I'm going to be getting the car up on axle stands next week to do the front brake pads. Thought I'd get a set of top mounts and do them while the wheels were off as they're not in a good way! Can anyone give me a basic guide as to how to do these properly? Thanks
  12. 1. Corrado 2. Late (Scala/GT2) Mk2 Scirocco 3. New Scirocco 4. Mk1 Scirocco 5. Early Mk2 Scirocco (I've never understood how such an awesome looking car in it's later years started off looking as rough as it did) Haven't forgotten the Karmann Ghia, but can't decide where it goes on the list! I only start this as a guy at work is convinced (and keeps telling me) the Corrado was a step down in styling :|
  13. Hi, yep I know I should be on an Audi forum for this, but thought I'd start closer to home. Have done a search and nothing's telling me anything I don't know already. Spent this afternoon changing the discs and pads on my g/fs Audi A3, put having a pig of a job winding in the caliper pistons to fit the new pads. I have a tool to connect a ratchet to the piston and am turning it clockwise and pushing but the piston just turns (without retracting). Have also attatched a bleed pipe to the outlet to reduce resistance put not having much success with that either. Only asking as I understand VWs work the same way and hoping someone can help. Cheers :)

    Coolant in the car

eers Yeh,I thought as much! Cheers for your help guys :D
  15. Hi, I think I may have a knackered heater matrix but want to know what else could be the problem here before I go pulling the dash apart. I have soggy carpets on both sides of the car, front and back, but it's worse on the passenger side. I'm pretty sure it's coolant as the level has gone down and the water on the carpet has an oily texture. But my heater is working fine and there's no problem with condensation on the windscreen. Any ideas? Also, some knob goblin left a nice big dent in my door last week, :censored:

    Door Spraying

Hi, I was wondering if anyone has tried spraying just the crease line of a door to deal with scab repairs etc. I've rubbed the area down and imagine it wouldn't look too bad once the paint is blended into the areas above and below,..anyone tried this? Cheers Big Ears :)
  17. Mine sailed through this month, but last years cost me around a grand! :?
  18. :) all I could remember was using an adjustable spanner Think we must be talking about a different part, this was a nut under the filter, I could only get to it with a socket :)
  19. Done it now, was a surprisingly easy job. Just in case anyone needs to know and doesn't, the nut is 27mm
  20. Thanks for the help guys :) , I'm going to get it done tomorrow, can anyone tell me the exact size of the nut holding the cooler on, just that I want to buy the right tool for the job first time (not something I'm known for) Ta
  21. Hello, can anyone tell me how to change the gasket between the oil filter housing and the oil pressure senders, I have oil seeping from where the 2 meet. Is it a case of removing the filter and unscrewing the housing? Thanks :-)
  22. Don't talk to me about this please, that bloody clip is doing my head in.... :brickwall: yeh, it's under the master cylinder on the servo. You have to remove the air intake pipe to get to it though. Getting to it is the easy bit, getting the sensor out however requires 3 hands, a torch, a mirror and a small flat blade screwdriver.

    2L 16V Oil Leak

Yo yo, I have an oil leak which looks like it's originating from somewhere between the sump and filter housing. I have routinely changed the filter since it started so that's ok, also checked the pressure senders and they seem fine too. The leak becomes a lot worse when the engine's running and slows down once off. I will get under there and have a proper look asap, but anyone have any ideas? Thanks :?
