Thanks for all the ideas. I think i'll have to get someone who knows what they are talking about to follow me. My old man followed me home when I bought it and didn't see any smoke at all doing 80-90 on the motorway.

Oil level seems to be fine, its not dropped at all since ive owned the car. The mate who saw it isnt very technicaly minded so it may have been black smoke. I havnt noticed any in the mirror so its probably not much, and he said he only saw it when i booted it hard. I do have an intermittent knock sensor fault on the car currently so the retarded timing could cause it???

A mate was following me yesterday and we got to a stretch of dual carrage way and I booted it hard and afterwards my mate said he saw some smoke coming out of my exhaust like it was burning oil when I did it. The car is a vr6 and it has a de-cat pipe. The head was rebuild 20k ago with new valve guides etc. I have heard vr6's use oil but wasnt sure if a bit of smoke is normal or not. I havn't had the car long you see. Dan.

The knock sensor is number 2, which I belive to be the front of the engine, ie nearest to me when im looking under the bonnet....

Thats what I thought hence why I plugged another sensor in thinking that would confirm the old sensor was bust, but that still had the error :?

No I haven't. I will try that later, I'm new to etka and havnt had a proper play about with it yet. So is it normal for the ecu to think a sensor is dead if it isnt screwed to the block?

I have a fault code for Knock Sensor II in my vr6. It still runs fine which is weird, but anyway, am I right in thinking this is the one at the front of the engine behind the oil cooler? Also I had one off a golf vr6 engine which I plugged in instead to see if the code would clear but it wouldnt, is that becuase they have to be bolted to the block in order for the ecu to detect them? One more question! I looked it up on ETKA and there are 2 part numbers, one is the same as the spare golf vr6 sensor and one is different, does anyone know the correct partnumber for my car? Its a 1993... Its too well hidden behind the oil cooler for me to see the number and dont want to strip it all off to find that my spare one is the wrong one!

My sunroof doesnt work, but the question is, do I strip it down and repair it using bits off a passat one. Replace it with a complete passat one, or replace it with a working corrado one ? Are the passat ones better than the rado ones? The rado ones easy to fix with a passat as a donor? I dont want it breaking again anytime soon, but I dont want to spend hundreds on it either!
