  1. depends what month in 92, CATs are required after august 92, i had an mot try to fail me for no cat untill i showed him the registration date etc....robbin bar-stool :nono:
  2. little bit of custom work completed on the bike carb conversion. A polished wiring box cover and a cover/scoop for the carbs to hide the rubber trumpets. What you think then peeps??
  3. depends on what bike carbs you use...and how long your intake manifold is made.
  4. heres a little vid i made of the motor.
  5. i might take a trip over to them at some point and see what they can do for me fabrication wise....i quite fancy some custom trumpets for it !!
  6. ill sort out a vid in due course but aint had the time yet..... i live in the midlands....sent the carbs in the post to boggs and they did the rest and sent them back.
  7. had the manifold made and the jetting done by boggs but all the mechanics etc i did myself. The engine is a 2.0l 16v 9a lump. the original lump was the same but went bang so i put another one in and thats when i decided to convert it, ive still got the original which will be refurbed and modified and put back in at a later date (with carbs of course)
  8. i cant remember all the techy bits to be honest....the outlet end was 38mm on each but i cant remember what the venturi gaps were.. :cuckoo: it worked out to allow enough air when i had the original calculations done and the jets are correctly sized so it all seems ok...!(touch wood)
  9. no worse feel-wise than it was with the injection to be honest but the mid range...3k plus is realy beefy it feels like theres more grip anyway.....(i just love the noise and constant popping from the exhaust on throttle release)
  10. Been doing this project for a little while now but as its all up and running thought i would post the pics, let us know what you think then peeps. cheers for looking!!
  11. Just a really quick one please guys...is the 1.8 16v air box the same as the 2.0l 16v air box??
  12. asked for some new indicators to go into the front bumper, still available for 92 onwards but prevoius models eg first g60 etc are apparently discontinued!! how do they justify that one?? hand signals?? lol
  13. im trying to find a place to post this one but if its not meant to be here then please correct it for me.... im trying to locate a rolling road near worcester/malvern...closer the better. ill be needing to set up my carbs when im all finished and rolling road is essential but obviously im not going to want to travel too far as i dont know what probs im going to encounter in different gears and speeds etc...you get the idea. so any reports would be very greatly recieved.
  14. i dont know of any horror stories but i think that you just have to change them a little sooner than vag ones as although the quality is to pass level its not as good as vag itself. i was just wandering how you got such a good price thats all. nothing untoward about it dont worry.....lol
  15. ok it could be a few things but heres the list for you to check... air intake system is leaking, eg has a split in it could be the volume air flow sensor(VAF) its on the air box under the round rubber air intake. its a flappy metal disc that moves up and down...could need cleaning or is sticking. sticking throttle or a dodgy throttle position sensor. fuel pump dodgy/ more likely a blocked fuel filter though...situated under the drivers side of car infront of rear wheel...(its a cylinder looking thing..if you just had a service it should be new looking) Try those for starts mate it gets more technical from here on in..lol welcome to valver world.....always a new problem!
  16. was that a genuine belt and tensioner?? good going on the change though buddy.
  17. theres nothing too them at all i know, if its cutting out then try another idle valve....after all as youve said you cant adjust what you havnt got. america didnt get the valver so im not sure what engine they are basing that on.
  18. for your second point.... the 9a isnt like a rocco in that sense....the 9a has an idle valve that controls part of the tickover but that isnt adjustable either.... why do you need to make it run slower on tickover?? is it too fast?? (possibly a stupid question)
  19. get a new temp sensor for the side of the engine block...bout £20 max from vw, (only if fan is coming on properly as mentioned above) when driving motorway the temp will read 70-75 but around town and slow roads expect 90+ temps
  20. my valver always seemed really hot....water temp normally sat at 90 ish and oil between 98 - 114 depending on my right foot activity. as mentioned above.....if you look for the oil filter, on top of it there will be 2 senders, they have wires coming off them. one is blue and one is yellow, but i cant for the life of me remember which one is which....if you go to vw the guys on the parts will tell you whats what. i dont think a new sender is much really.
  21. a cam kit is about £50 and it only takes about 2 hours, so £160 sounds a little steep to me...to change a valver cambelt etc....shop around a bit maybe. tdc is quite important yes..if your not sure about doing it dont....its an expensive mistake!
  22. my 9a is pre cat and its impossible to buy an off shelf stainless manifold. awesome gti do one for the 1.8 kr as i rang them about my 2.0l valver and they said it only fits the 1.8 so give them a ring.
  23. i would try the heat shields on the system first, they quite often rattle really bad all of a sudden...took mine off and all was good. could save you a few hundred quid+
  24. im sure i posted on this but obviously it didnt work....heres a link to ed38 forum. i posted on this thread my pics of wheni took out my matrix....you should be able to match the pics to what it says in the wiki. hope its of some help. http://www.edition38.com/forums/index.p ... n+footwell
  25. i chose splitfire leads for my valver with Denso irridium plugs, they are really good...cost a few quid but are dual core. think they are about £95 ish for the vr which is cheaper than the valver.
