there was a guy importing 9a engines from germany pretty local to me....im sure he could send them anywhere for a price. otherwise a european import from a breakers. difficult one this.....
-
if your going to keep the same loom completely your pretty restricted to honest....you could do a bit more if you change ecu or do away with it and go down the megasquirt kinda route. otherwise as mentioned above go for 2.0l bottom end and kr 16v head....get it all polished ported etc and away you go....add carbs or throttle bodies and loose the injection or go the turbo/charger route. once youve got a base the possibilities are endless...lol
-
check fuse...if not take the switch out of the roof fitting and take it apart and clean the contacts....did this with all my switches and they all work perfect now.
-
thats right, its the control module clicking, your window is either stuck...or you need a new motor/mechanism...mines broken too but if you want a new one they are £185 from VW. try for a second hand one but as the motor is held in with rivits you have to drill them out and fit the new one with some bolts...its quite fidly to be honest (cheers vw)..lol
-
i cant help you on what it might be but ive recently stripped my injection system out of my valver so if you want to borrow/try my old metering head your more than welcome. or any other parts for that matter.
-
Just a quick point....if your planning on running this car round any track or drag strip (1/4mile) you will want to put the battery into a secure box. some places will not let yo run without it. incase battery leaks etc. ive got mine local but demon tweeks do them.
-
if you look really closely from where the ark starts you will probably see a tiny split/crack.....mine had 2 but like you said it could only be seen in the dark. i bought some new performance leads as i was going to change them anyway but standard leads are good anyway. seeing as you have changed everything else you might as well complete the package.

go to your local vw garage and ask them at the parts desk....if they are feeling helpfull you'll get all the help you will need. If they dont let me know and you can pass on all the info to me and ill pop into my local and have a word (ive spent quite a bit of time in there recently and they give me part numbers galore...and even let me look through the diagrams on the parts program. let us know how you get on.

just the rocker cover needs to come off (and inlet manifold etc if your still using them) Remove the chain, loosen off clamps on inlet cam to relieve valve tension and then remove carefully, fit new one( kinda..lol) it will take a mechanic about 2-3 hours to fit....you will then want to get it rolling roaded to set it all up properly to get the best gains etc.
-
The kr cams normally come up on fle-bay quite often...got mine for £25 all in. you only need the inlet cam though, (thats the one without the big cog on the end) but they will normally come as a pair. i havnt fitted mine yet as im doing a bike carb conversion at the moment but plan to put it in before its all set up.
-
also make sure you really clean the cover well inside after polishing because if any of the paste gets into the engine it will damage it really badly. the covers on g60 come off fairly easily...just have a good check before you pop it off to make sure no hard to see bits are still attatched to it.

Its pretty simple, ither stuff for bhp depends on how much you want to spend and what you want to do....??
-
could be temp sensor but dont see why there would be no spark.....normally on a valver it justs goes really lumpy and over fuels all the time but stays running. could be idle control valve not working right if its from start up but doubtful again. ignition coil/amp is a posibility but try dizzie/etc first could be a faulty one.

He said cat-back, ie: no cat  oh yeah...didnt read it right...thought he said cat combined back box....im so sorry you felt the need for correction there!
-
i know a couple of guys who use mr muscle....dunno which one but there cant be many to choose from. ive seen the finished result and it looked good on the engine components. They left it to soak for a good while (like half a day) and then washed it off.
-
as long as the connections from the down pipe are the same, and hangers as already mentioned which i think they are then yes.....but you will lose a little power by adding a cat...why do you want to do that??
-
i looked into the rebore etc or new engine and ive managed to pick up an engine to match mine for 450 which is much cheaper than the rebore option and means i can take my time fixing up the old engine with bigger pistons etc when the money is more readily available. im still deffinately going to be putting carbs on this new engine though, and after looking through that link you gave me bike carbs are the option because i can run my ecu with them. cheers for the help thats great!!!
-
some bits of grit somehow got into my inlet and ended up in the engine scoring the edges of the pistons and cylinders and causing three of them to lose all compression. what a good day that was!! yes i mean throttle bodies, just used to calling them carbs, sorry. i want to do something a little different to the norm and i had an old escort with webers on and really enjoyed the noise and look and the difference in the type response you got from it all.
-
look at all the replys ive got....lol can anybody shed some info for me???

ok, well im chris, and i live in malvern so not far from you at all, first off what model is it?? if its a valver you may find that because of the rain and cold weather its your cold start playing up which is quite common, mine did do it all the time but bought a new sensor which is about 20£ tops i think, if you want any help let me know and ill pm you my number etc and i can put you in touch with a mate of mine who is a top notch mechanic with his own garage that deff wont rip you off!! makes a change nowadays.

Hey there people, ive just completely knackered the engine on my 2.0l 16v and have to buy a new one so after much thought on the matter im going to go for a carb conversion as a little(BIG) project, so if anyone can give me advice/ help ideas etc all would be greatly appreciated. Thanks alot guys and gals. Chris.

well it would appear that i have no compression in 3 cylinders so....... engine is in the process of being stripped to find what is causing the valves not to fully shut. Just like the good old corrado to ask for a crimbo prezzy hey!! an engine rebuild...GREAAAT! lol
-
yeah perfect as far as i can see, just added a little lube to help them, i cant see a leak but if there was one the engine should still fire up i guess.

ok heres the story, ive recently bought a spare inlet manifold, top and bottom and a rocker cover. i had them polished and the bottom part of the manifold powder coated. Today i replaced the old ones with these shiny ones. I swapped over the injectors which was a ball ache to say the least because they wouldnt come from there seating so i had to swap the brass nutty thing they sit in aswell. anyway when i had finally put it all back together i turned the key.....and....it fired up sounding like it was missing quite badly, i waited a minute and it didnt get any better, so i blipped the throttle and hey presto it cut out. Now when the key is turned the engine turns but doesnt fire up and it sounds odd. what im thinking is could i have knackered up the timing some how when changing the parts.....can anyone shed some light on the situation???
