  1. cool - nice one - while you've got them like that might be wirth getting them shot blasted before you paint them just to make sure they are nice and fresh for the paint... also possibly worth running a bit of scotchbrite over the sliders to make sure they are grime-free for reassembly - hope it all goes well anyway
  2. that is of course if you have a vr6 - if you don't then ask for the hoses relevant to your car, as im unsure if they are the same - sorry i was being a mong!
  3. i phoned goodridge direct - they will deal with the public - if you are getting normal corrado hoses then just ask for fronts for a vr6, if you are upgrading to 288mm or 312mm brakes then dont forget to ask for the front hoses for a mk4 golf goodridge's phone no is - 01392369090
  4. haha - very true! will look into an upper brace for the end of this month when i've got some cash again as i've just ordered my eibach rear anti-roll bar from stealth. and you're right about the subtlety thing by the way - big fan of the way that sits under the bonnet i've got a rear strut brace which i will fit before long - a bahnbrenner jobby from ebay - not as pretty and probably not as strong as the trimsport one, but a nice job all the same, and easily removed for practicality via rosejoint connections at either end - will get some pics up before long thanks very much for your help once again :thumb right:
  5. After a quick search of the forum i couldn't find any supplier of front upper strut braces for the VR - does anyone know of anywhere/anyone who supplies them - also prices & recommendations quality wise if there are in fact a few manufacturers who can supply them would be appreciated. Also - it's probably not in need of it as much as other cars due to the presence of a subframe and the fact that room down there seems a little tight when it comes to ground/chassis clearance etc; but same question as above for a lower front strut brace... cheers for your time
  6. cheers for that - have to confess i absolutely love 'em too. They do actually look loads better in the flesh/metal - they come up superbly after a good clean - will get some more pics posted when all four wheels are eventually back on the car and touching tarmac again!

  8. many many thanks by the way to chazrad who was good enough to show me what i was doing with uploading the photographs :thumb right:
  9. here are some more - uploaded those to make sure i didn't lose them
  10. here you go as promised - pictures of my calipers, carriers, hubs, hub carriers and front abs rings after their visit to BiggRed. they are finished in the black polymer coating biggred do - check out their site - http://www.biggred.co.uk i've also included a couple of pics of the refurb that i'm doing on my car at the moment - hope you all approve...
  11. in all honesty it all depends how far gone your calipers are - you will just have to rip them apart and see - it goes without saying that all seals etc should be renewed as a matter of course, probably the rubber slider cases, but as for new pistons etc - see how far gone your old ones are - you might be surprised how much you can clean things the only reason i payed biggred to do my calipers with new pistons etc is because i hate rust, am a tart and love the look of the poly coating, and (only very occasionaly i hasten to add) drive like a lunatic on my favourite b-road and am very hard on the brakes also mystic rado - don't know about any of the other finishes, but biggred's polymer finish is awesome - almost seems a shame to put copper grease on it! stand by for some pics later on tonight hopefully...
  12. you could always pay demon tweeks/theives a visit - they havent been too bad when buying clutches from previously, i have had lots of stuff from them in the past though, so get a bit of discount - be worth going through a friend in a similar situation if you know someone... other than that, if you have any reputable motorsport outlet near you i would be surprised if they cant get hold of one as lots of people deal with helix...
  13. good man, thanks very much got some half decent photos this wknd as its the first time i've been properly arsed to take photos while im doing this kind of thing - glad i did though as its nice to see what you've done. i should be knocked off by about 17.15, so whenever after buddy - should be free all evening cheers again
  14. looking forward to see what you think about these as i've just had my calipers rebuilt i have to confess that the first thought on my mind was seizure, especially as part of the reason i'm now upgrading my brakes is because the old ones proper seized up on me! - make sure you get hold of some nice shiny new rubber sliding boots and arent shy with the grease! sure if they work fine though initial brake bite especially would be infinitely improved - anyway, looking forward to seeing what you think...
  15. Got my calipers, carriers, hubs, hub carriers and front abs rings back from biggred this weekend - how glad am i that i sent them - they are absolutely stunning - very very pleased with them. They have had all pistons/seals/working parts replaced with new ones and are finished in black polymer coating which is even resistant to brake fluid  will get some pics up shortly - chazrad has kindly agreed to show me how sometime soon. Also have a couple of nice pics of the refurb that i'm doing on the rest my running gear at the moment - stay tuned!... at the moment the list goes: refurbed 312mm brakes with new discs/pads refurbed rear brakes with new discs/pads new powerflex bushes EVERYWHERE new wheel bearings all round subframe/lower arms/anti roll bar/rear beam all cleaned of rust and sprayed up like shiny new steering rack/pump refurbed with new track rods/track rod ends new ball joints new solid brake lines all round new goodridge hoses for the fronts (rears already have goodridge) new abs sensors all round (old ones were horrifically stubborn to get off, so i introduced them to the tapometer!)
  16. I havent used an uprated clutch in a corrado, however on a couple of previous cars i have rebuilt i have used helix clutches and have found them to be very very good. another thing that some people don't know is that the pressure plate on the clutch is one of the things that puts the bottom end of the engine most out of balance (as it is a heavy plate which the standard manufacturers dont spend as much time on as they should as it costs money). Helix clutches come through the door all balanced up and ready to go :D also if you have ever looked at a helix clutch out of the box then they are superbly put together Helix Helix Helix all the way
  17. Just to let anyone in the Herefordshire area know that Hereford tyres have all the required up-to-date equipment for 4 wheel alignment and they are pretty damn good. I have a friend with a g60 who had it tracked after i fitted some new lower arms/balljoints and track rod ends for him and it was terrible - even progressively getting worse a couple of days later :? He took it to Hereford tyres a few days later to get it sorted properly and the transformation was unbelievable. They are nice lads there and loved his 'rado, so if you live in the area i can recommend them :thumb right:
  18. I was unlucky enough to have both my front calipers seize on me last week (at least VW are reliable!). Anyway I have been planning on doing a complete running gear refresh since I bought the car, in the form of 312mm conversion on the front, all new calipers, discs/pads etc - (will come on to this shortly) - powerflex everywhere, new track rod ends/ball joints/ drop links, new wheel bearings etc and also a refurb on my power-steering rack. The rack hasn't got any undue play or anything horrific like that yet, but being as I'm taking the subframe off anyway and the car has done over 145k I thought I may as well send the rack and pump off to be made shiny-new again The company that is going to do the refurb for me is called western power-steering (based somewhere down in wales i think). I phoned the place up and spoke to a really nice guy who i presume was the boss-even said I could call him on the weekend to arrange stuff - top bloke. The cost is about £230 all in i think for the complete refurb of both the rack and pump, also including postage etc which is pretty reasonable. The number for Western power-steering if any of you want to give the guy a call is 01179602906 The point of this thread though is really about those wishing to renew and/or upgrade their brakes. There's a place in Worcester called Bigg Red and they specialise in the remanufacture of old calipers. They have a comprehensive rebuild process as detailed on their website and their work is absolutely spot on - i can vouch for this as a friend of mine is rebuilding a scirocco, used them, and needless to say we were both very impressed with the results. Their website is - http://www.biggred.co.uk/ The page detailing their rebuild process can be found here - http://www.biggred.co.uk/process.html To recon the calipers & carriers that I've got all round in the most expensive finish they do (the polymer coating - mmm) is about £330 if my memory serves me correctly, which is a little pricey, but if you look at what you are getting as the end product, I think its well worth it. Also, if like me you are unlucky enough to have Lucas rear calipers (as opposed to girling i think) then the rebuild will be a fair bit more expensive as the lucas calipers are quite alot rarer and require different bits when being rebuilt - taking the cost up - grrr! Anyway, I hope this helps anyone who is doing anything similar. If anyone wants to PM me about either place to ask any questions then feel free...
  19. cheers for the advice once again fellas - most appreciated. will get the genuine article :)
  20. Ok, I'm just about to change the lambda sensor on my 1993 VR6 - unfortunately I'm nowhere near the car at the moment so I can't tell you how many wires the original lambda has got going to it. However I was wondering if anyone knew the voltage specification for the lambda - I'm going to buy a universal one and solder on the original VW connection plug. VW want either £99 or £130 for a lambda and when you can get a universal one for £15 on ebay, so I know which one I'm going for as they do exactly the same thing. Anyways any help with this would be most appreciated, cheers gents
  21. Cheers for your help gents - most appreciated. Was looking at some previous threads etc and im pretty much set on the schrick. Last question - im actually a pretty competent mechanic but unfortunately i dont have an in depth knowledge on corrados, so....... please could somebody educate me as to the difference between the obd1 and obd 2 manifold options. apologies for my ignorance  my corrado by the way is on a k plate - 1993 with the red vr badge (with the higher rev limit) anyway once again - cheers for your help
  22. Hey all, was just hoping for a little advice on this. At some point before long I will be doing an engine rebuild on my VR6-no expense spared i.e. forged internals, new big valve ported/polished head, cams etc etc. Basically has anyone got any experience with the EIP inlet manifold from the states? I'm not really fussed about paying the extra for the Schrick, but the EIP looks just as good (claimed to be better by EIP) and you can get to the plugs much more easily. Anyone with any input would be much appreciated. Thanks all for your time (If you want a link to look at said item then here you go...) http://www.eiptuning.com/ecomm/products.php?cat=37
