I can now vouch for chris and say that it feels pretty capable to do 150+ easily.

One thing I must say GET WATER INJECTION. I have on mine and when you get out the car from a hard drive and feel the boost pipes they are cold even under a really hot bonnet. I have a system on my G so you can check it out tonight oh and I'll bring the RR results that show the gains I got from it (no-one believes me otherwise) oh and you can run methanol which gives you loads more torque (like you need more anyway!!) Yeah a smaller pulley is always a nice cheap mod cos your garrenteed a big gain. Is the charger running off toothed pulleys? they are again a great investment (if they are available, mine is running some and the boost comes in so low down full and does'nt dye away at all. See ya tonight

Yeah just started last week and it's better if you progressivly put your foot down. I have just been out and it's cutting out everytime it hits high revs so I am thinking either like you say knock sensor or fuel starvation.

Nice one bloody hell very intense looking forward to have a look at your car tonight, thats performance I want whic is kinda why I want a VR6 but I am sure you can convince me it's the best way to go!! Well best go out and get my car into running condition as it's been a little tempramental resently. see ya tonight.

Hello, Ok I know this is a polo engine but my G40 is hesitating when at full throttle. Just wondering if anyone can help me out. I can put about 75% boost on underload but as soon as it goes full boost it starts to hesitate only when under load i.e. in fifth at lower revs. It seems fine whilst running in first second but then sometimes it sounds like it runs on three cylinders in third. I have checked the ignition components and swapped them arund with my brothers car's and it has'nt solved it, I have a feeling it might either be the blue temperature sensor or the full throttle switch which surely it would'nt be fueling right at full throttle but then that would mean it would be pinking but then I have water injection and have retarded the igntion to try and stop it but still it does it. Man I am stuck. I am going to try out the blue temp sensor and see what happens cna anyone think of anything else? cheers

Funny you say that loads of MK4 golf GTI owners try picking on me it really pisses me off when I am trying to save the fuel but I can't let them think that he is quicker!! " oh it's just a polo with some guy thinking alloys will make it quicker" Actually this brings me onto the best story I have heard ever it's well funny (I hope I don't bore you with it........lol but it's funny so read on) One of my mates down south has a G40 which is kicking out about 200 BHP(he is running a tiny 58mm pulley pulling 1.4 bar+ out of a G40 charger!!) anyway he is filling up at a petrol station and a TT (225 BHP version with the twin exhaust) pulls up and fills up as well, the guy looks over and says to my mate " so does that exhaust make it fly then" in a sarcastic voice, now here I would normally say somic like wanna have a go or somic thick minded......lol but my mate just said nothing laughed and got in his car, and then followed the TT out and left him for dead up to 100 then he slowed down let him past the tt went past at 120 so my mate flew past the TT again at 140 the guys face must have been a picture seeing a polo fly past. How smug was my mate. he he he he he For those of you that are thinking 140 in a polo???? then yes it's possible G40 tuning has hit an all time high and we can now hit the rev limiter 5 th thats 153 going by the gearbox ratio's not the speedo. (not great at that speed though very light car still). I still wanna corrado though :(

Cool I think I am going to have to do some test driving before I part with any car or money. I still might sell the G if I enjoy drivinf one enough!! Now who would like to give me a shot..........lol they can have a go in the G40 (175BHP ain't no slouch!).........lol How desperate do I sound.

Get some gunk engine cleaner it very strong stuff but blimey it works, I cleaned all the panel bits (bits that are body colour) as the dirt just stays there over the years, this gunk stuff takes it off then all you need to do is polish the areas when finished and thats it your engine bay gleams. Just do it outside cos the stuff stank the house out even though the garage door was open it's that strong. The gunky yellow stuff (waxoil) keep it over the spot welds or any joints as thats what it's perpose is to protect the joints etc.

well said I know from driving the G40 the 0-60 is never really improved with mods because it just spins up so first gear on my car is just a waist of time, so when someone asks me the 0-60 time I always say it's not that important. The best bit is like you all say in gear acceleration. Another point raised with the fact that cars get slower as the load increases which is so true but the VR I assume would be good being a bigger engine etc Thats the problem with mine if I want to show it off I always take only one extra person cos it is still a 1.3 so under load it's not as good by far. When I race bigger cars i.e. BMW's I try and do it up a hill cos they always think they have the advantage but then get a shock it's great.

Yeah I would be up for a meet up. Do you mean tomorrow? it would certainly give me something to do. I don't normally go out cruising either but if there are a couple of C's out then I would happily make it an acception to meet them who is normally out and are they out tonight? I don't have any pics that I can uplaod at the mo but if you go to http://www.polo-gt.co.uk and go to the gallery then look at the MK3 section then go to the bottom of that page you'll see mine click on Paul Borthwicks G40 Classic. It's abit out of date engine spec wise as it's had lots done since last year. but the outside is pretty much the same.
-
Well I raced one whilst running in my G40 and my car like yours has great response and great acceleration through all speeds (well mine is'nt as good over 130) but this guy was not looking happy.....lol
-
Rory hello mate it would be great to meet up I can't promise that I'll buy it ..... infact I will tell you now I don't think I can afford it but it would be good to meet up. Do you go out anywhere i.e saturday nights..... I don't normally but could meet up I need convincing a corrado is the correct way to go. What do you mean by a cheap part ex?

Yeah my G is giving me about 60 miles to a tenner which ain't good!!!! the problem with the G is you can't stop flooring it and if a car goes past thinking he'll beat you you HAVE to prove your point (it's the rule you know.......lol). Nah truth is it won't give me any more than about 75 miles to a tenner even when not driving it hard it's just chucking so much air and fuel in it's mad oh yeah it also drinks 4 litres of water/methanol per 250 miles      sorry I just think that is the funniest smiley ever!!

Yeah I've done mine as well very easy just a pain in the arse to get to if your not in a pit but I done it on axle stands and it was'nt to bad. Alan has pretty much covered everything. You will need to take out the lift pump so when refitting to new tank be sure that it's sealing properly cos it will make the car smell of petrol otherwise (my brothers did'nt seal properly) Good idea with the water in the tank and try and do it outside cos the fumes really get to you. Have fun.
-
Hello alan, man I have caught the corrado bug bad this time but I think I have decided to keep the G and put it on limited mileage and strip it out and use it for track days. I will get a corrado for daily user (if I can fund it) but I think I'll stick to a 16V or G60 as the VR will just be to costly fuel wise! Then both dreams come true G40 and Corrado!! that would be cool.

Well I hope to have my first drive of one soon I just hope it's going to give me enough thrills to get over getting rid of my beloved G I know that sounds daft to most on here but I have built this car from CL (55 BHP) to how it is now (G40 175BHP) and it's a saloon so it's one of about two in this country cos VW did'nt put the G40 in the saloon. Anyway my first drive of the G40 was very funny me and my mate spent 12 hours fitting my new engine as we really wanted to see what all the fuss was about these little G-chargers. So 5 in the morning came and was way to early to start up so next morning we got up and it started straight away, so exciting!! Anyway we took it out and it sound cool (first time I heard a G-charger) anyway I floored it and it was quickish but nothing amazing, anyway I was quietly dissapointed but gave everyone a go anyway. Once driven a few times I took it in to do a check only to find one of the main boost pipes hanging off!! so I put it on thinking it won't make that much difference but once I floored it again I tell you I was smilling for a few weeks after it was great I had torque steer for once. Now the engine has had lots done to it and I have had many first drive experiences with it after the work and it is pretty quick. Just feel it's time for a change!

Don't worry I have been doing my homework and the VR is the one I want you can also get them bored out to 3.1 from TSR I think and that makes them silly quick. But first things first get the VR first, although I do like the way a supercharged car goes and I have really got used to it but the VR is more torquey in the manuals plus it's V6 so it must sound awesome!!? So then anyone want a G40...............lol I must admit I think I may regret getting rid of the G cos they are such fun to throw around a track cos they are so light and with the power I have it's just silly but for more potential out of the engine now I'd have to spend silly amounts of money.

Yeah I have got the MK1 golf 285 discs on and although it improves it (especially at 120mph) but it still is'nt that great plus I've warped one and it's really annoying to drive at the mo. Thats one of the reason's I want a corrado cos they have all the bits and comforts a polo does'nt .

Hello everyone, I have come across here to try and get some info on these cars before I possibly buy one. I currently am a very proud owner of a Polo MK3 Saloon G40, it is a great car and is running 175BHP @ flywheel so is no slouch But (there is always a but) it's not a great car for cruising along the motorway as I do lot's of miles every week getting to and from work so i have been looking at getting another car. seeings how I have always wanted a Corrado since I was 16 I am thinking I should get one. I either want to keep the G40 and try and fund for a 16V or sell the G40 and get a VR6. Now I know this is going to sound daft but is the corrado a nice car to drive? The G40 is very frantic even when driving slowly it just always wants to drive fast and rev. Hope you can help cos no mags with reviews actually say what the corrado is like to drive. Cheers Paul.B
