  1. I did once. This complete d%!k on my road parked the car so that his bumper was actually touching mine! He had a nasty Honda so I had no choice but to leave him a note (didn't know which house he lived in). It worked , he's never parked near my car again!
  2. Spot on. Never, ever park next to a people carrier! My general rule is to park next to a car that a) is clean b) is worth over 10k. Obviously thats after checking for any other rados :)
  3. Doesn't matter where I park...still get my car scratched and ding'ed :(
  4. Hi all, Don't suppose anyone near East London has a car trailer I can borrow for a few hours? Renting one from HSS is near a hundred quid so I'd pay up to at least half of that! :) Need to drop the VR off to a garage for a leak down test in Jan but no tax, MOT or insurance! cheers, Harin
  5. Thanks for the recommendation but I'm in London so going to be tough to get down there in SORN'ed and not MOT'ed rado! Probably get pulled before getting on the M1 :) My usual mechanic doesn't have the equipment so will need to have it done somewhere locally then post results here and ask for more help! Can't trust anyone these days! ~
  6. Great thanks again! Will need to find a decent mechanic then ~
  7. Thanks for that...so will the leakdown test also confirm if its the piston rings too?
  8. Hi guys, Finally got my mechanic in to do a few compression tests on the VR6 (Could have done it myself but wanted to them to be accurate). Brief history: Put in Rotrex kit myself last year >> Took it to Storm for a session on the rolling road >> BHP was lower than expected >> They did a compression test and said one cylinder was too low and that the engine needs replacing >> I've been trying to get the car running so my mechanic can take a took. This is what he got: Cold 1. 160 3. 162 5. 151 2. 170 4. 171 6. 168 Hot 1. 161 3. 163 5. 155 2. 172 4. 171 6. 170 Oil Test 1. 207 3. 204 5. 205 2. 210 4. 212 6. 212 Just wanted to check the results with you guys and see what you think is the cause. Obviously want to try and keep the car but can't afford to rebuild the engine yet. My mechanic says the engine is worn and its probably the piston rings. What do you lot think? Any similar readings where your 'oil' tests were consistently that much higher than 'hot' tests? The only thing I've noticed is that engine is running hotter than normal and fan kicks quite frequently. Also a slight power loss at the top end. (Not the happiest with Storm I must admit. After spending £1500 with them on the kit, then being told 'Get a new engine' then them offering me a R32 then not ever returning my calls!)
  9. Tried the 'voodoo' and a couple of other ones with no luck...must have spent ages (at work :D ) on Google searching for reset procedures! Yep alarm has annoyed me in the past. Especially the first time my battery died and got it jumped. Drove off happily but then she stalled in the middle of a junction and when I took the key out the alarm went off! :epicfail:
  10. Ok so in the end I gave up :) and got the car to an auto electrician who is going to rip it out nice and neatly for £70! Money well spent I say - it's getting too cold to be out all day! ~
  11. A silly question about the override key in the alarm module in the engine bay...which way should that be facing? Currently mine is turned so that it faces to the side of the module itself as opposed to the bottom. Can anyone do a quick check and tell me which way there one is pointing? Booked a half day off work today to give it another try! Also attached an image - obviously I've got too much time on my hands at work :) alarm.jpg[/attachment:1g0q03kd] Cheers!
  12. Hi guys, Trying to start my VR6 after a few months off the road. Battery died and had to get a new one. Now the immobiliser has kicked in and when I connect up the new battery all I get is flashing indicators! I've tried all the reset procedures with no luck! I used to get this with my old battery and got round it by connecting/disconnecting the + positive battery terminal a few times until they stopped flashing! Anyway, I now just want to disconnect the crappy alarm and immobiliser. Can I do this myself? If so has anyone got the wiring diagrams? Help would be much appreciated! ~ H
  13. Land Rover Defender 90! Something similar to this: http://www.landrover-addict.co.uk/acata ... -1-1-s.jpg EDIT: I should add it costs roughly the same petrol wise, although speed bumps not an issue any more! Lets just say it was an impulse buy! Still have the VR6 on SORN. I'm keeping the VR for the moment but telling everyone that I'm planning to sell to keep them quiet - screw that! Not ready just yet! :)
  14. Hi Andy, Sorry for messing you about but have decided to put the car into storage for a few months while I decide what to do with it as I'm having trouble making a decision at the moment! cheers for the offer though. rgds, Harin
  15. Think Im at the stage now where I just want a car that works with as little work as possible. How hard is it to do an engine swap on a vr (standard engine)? I've heard it's a bit of a pain gettig it out
  16. i'm in london so will need to organize a van and crane from somewhere. Might take me a couple of weeks!
  17. Hey mate, where abouts are you? I'd have the engine for a short term solution....
  18. Hi all, After doing my install (http://www.the-corrado.net/.archive/forum/viewto ... 17&t=78293) and being excited to see it on the rolling road at Storm it all went a bit pear shaped. First couple of runs on the rolling road the bhp was well below what it should have been so the guys then did a compression test and cylinder 6 was way off. So my engine basically needs replacing/rebuilding and it looks like my choices are: 1. Get the engine rebuilt (£2000) 2. Go for the R32 (although looks like engines are hard to find these days) (£5000) 3. Sell the car and move on (who the £$%^ is going to buy a car with a dud engine) (any of the above before summer so I have something to drive) So after getting back from Storm I ripped out (just imagine parts flying everywhere) and sold the charger asap. To make matters worse the car now doesn't start (fueling/immobiliser problem) and I had MOT/Road Tax due yesterday (car is parked on the road as I don't have a driveway). So basically I'm fed up and not quite sure what to do. If anyone has any thoughts/advice or there is a blindingly obvious solution I've missed then please let me know! Cheers, Harin

    Thanks CF!

As long i get to Reading in one piece! Yep, the engine is getting hotter than usual! I couldn't find any other decent place to mount it - any ideas? Yes, it was the best part :) Not done that before so was expecting a lot of sparks! After i finished with the head I got carried away with ugly bits of metal in the engine bay! Will get the WIKI sorted in the next couple of weeks
  20. Hey guys and girls, I've finally finished my Rotrex install on the VR6, it was a long slog since I started in early December and various things got in the way (like the extreme weather we had - the car was on the street!) buts its finally at a stage where I'm happy with the way its running and I should be able to drive it down to Andy @ Storm for the session on the rolling road soon. When the boxes arrived from Storm in early December (their basic Rotrex kit) I ripped them all open (like a kid on Christmas day...lol) but soon thought to myself that I might have bit off more than I can chew this time. I found the charger, obviously, but also a bunch of various sized pipes, clips, connectors, pulleys and a fuel regulator! I didn't have a clue where anything went and how it all fitted together - basically a big jigsaw puzzle! So my first stop was this forum, after about 2 hours of solid searching I had downloaded enough pictures to figure out the oil lines routing and and oil cooler and canister placement. So the cycle began, spend a few hours on CF the night before and I was good to go the next day! It always amazes me how much information this forum holds, think I must have clocked over 5 hours on this forum during the project and that was as much fun as doing the the actual install! So knowingly or not, most of you guys have probably helped with my install- so a BIG thanks to all! Also must mention Andy @ Storm who was on the other end of the phone when I was completely stuck! Have attached some pics of the finished install (although its never really finished is it...) Cheers, Harin PS: Would anyone be interested in a Rotrex manual for the Corrado VR6? I've got a fair few pics and its all fresh in my head at the moment! passat climatronic wiring diags.pdfiphone-pics 021.jpg[/attachment:3reeocg5] climatronic wiring-Golf from May 01.pdfiphone-pics 051.jpg[/attachment:3reeocg5] 2.8l 24v Climatronic system.pdfiphone-pics 056.jpg[/attachment:3reeocg5] iphone-pics 065.jpg[/attachment:3reeocg5]
  21. Yep, didn't think of it like that! Went and ordered one this morning...they promised to have it in for tomorrow. You actually get the pulley too which is a small consolation I guess! Cheers, Harin
  22. Hi All, Was at the last stage of my Rotrex install on Sunday and was just putting the v-belt on and I managed to crack the tensioner! As you can imagine I was well annoyed at myself for that royal screw up...just wasn't paying attention when releasing the tension and heard a nasty crack... Anyway I need to get a new one asap...phoned a few breakers and they don't have any original ones in good condition. Is a replacement tensioner (not from the stealers) okay to use or would you guys recommend going full whack for a original part (80 or so quid)?
  23. Yea i was trying to get hold of Andy but looks like he's shut this week. Oh well looks like it'll have to wait for a while which is fine by me since its damn cold outside! Cheers.
  24. Hi guys, Have started my Storm/Rotrex install and have a few questions before I start putting everything back and tightening stuff up. What torque settings I should be using on the nuts and bolts for the roller and pulleys that attach to the bracket (and the extra pulley/bracket for non A/C cars) from Storm. I'm assuming the torque settings for attaching the bracket to the head will be the same? I need to get the bolt for the non a/c bracket onto the head (below the alternator) but theres a plastic cover in the way. This is right next to the serp belt and i dont want to yank it too much as it might break. Anyone know how to get this out? Also anyone have the layout how the belt should go? I saw some pics on here but can't seem to find them now! So far its going well and I have roughly mounted the header tank, cooler and all the pipes and just need to tighten everything up and mount the inlet pipes. Had a bad couple of hours today because I managed to snap a rusted bracket/screw for the drivers side headlamp which I will now have to remake somehow! I think the funs going to start when i have to get that belt on! Your help would be much appreciated as I'm at the last hurdle now :) Cheers, Harin PS: Apologies if my terminolgy is slightly off!
  25. Martyn Just had a quick look and it looks like they are sitting a little high, i would say about 1cm and you can clearly see the top mount rubber underneath. I'm pretty sure they weren't this high when i first put them in. Another thing i have also noticed is a knocking and juddering noise when the wheels start spinning. Could that also be related?
